When the full roster was revealed before launch, it definitely disappointed me. I mean, I'll still play Luigi and Daisy as my second, though Rosalina might take her place. I guess I should look more into the stats, but for most of the single player it doesn't matter.

It's assumed the lack of battle arenas could be a sign that Mario Kart 8 was rushed out for launch. I could see a death race style battle mode being a thing, but that's all we really have now. It's not a big loss for me as I haven't cared for it since the days of Double Dash, but there's still those who do. I've only played, like, two hours so far, but while there's great detail in what's there, it all feels simplified. It comes off like Nintendo knew Mario Kart would purely be a multiplayer game, so the basics are in there with little charm.

Otherwise I'm still loving it. I didn't give Mario Kart 7 enough attention, but this time Mario Kart 8 is going to be a revival of my old karting spirit.

(As for N64 Rainbow Road, it was an exploit and not a true shortcut. Recovery for falling off has been reduced, so this isn't the type of game where you'll fall through track maps. We might find other glitches or exploits in tracks, but for now I think these tracks should be enjoyed fully.)

Trespasser. The game where you survive dinosaurs with your noodle arms. Personally I'm not seeing how it is hard to aim and shoot a gun. Sure, you can hold down Ctrl and twist your hand till you can shoot yourself but you can just as easily configure your arm to stick out from center mass and stay there. So anything in your center of view will die.

Sadly, the game crashed before I could shoot any raptors. I think this game is better watched as a Let's Play. Fine example:

The first episode of Republique is free on IOS. I had no idea games could look this good on phones.

I don't really count stuff like Infinity Blade or racing games on IOS/Android though. It just seems that metal and shiny plastic is incredibly easy to make look realistic. Thats why people always jizz themselves over Gran Turismo and Forza. Or anyone wearing a shitload of metal armor.

Trine 2 was free on PS+.

I really don't like the Trine games.

The gimmick sounds good on paper and it works as intended, but it's just all so...boring. I hate the switching characters mechanic, which is the focal point. Which sucks because the game controls well and everything feels pretty tight. It's a well made game.

Though if they removed the 3 character aspect it would be a generic platformer and Id also find it boring.

I also hate the narration. It's just way too "bright and charming" for it's own good.

I started playing Tales of Symphonia a couple days ago. It's not a bad game by any means but man, the story is boring the shit out of me. :/ The opening was fine but now, a little under 10 hours in, there's only been one other section so far where it was actually interesting. Otherwise, most of the time the characters are talking and all I can think is "Oh my god, I don't care!!". I really hope it picks up soon because otherwise I don't think I could endure 50 hours of this shit.

It's kind of a shame because the combat is kinda fun. If the story was more compelling, I could see myself really getting into it. I've been trying to soldier on and keep playing in hope that it gets better but I always end up turning it off and going back to grind in Disgaea 3 instead...

I got stuck on the wind element guy with the big metal twinkie on his arm (Forcystus?) and I stopped. Now I don't have the game anymore :/

I've tried both Trine games. I couldn't point out what I don't like about them, they look impressive, it's a game mechanic I like - they just seem sort of soulless.

I think the change to Rainbow road it's to do with online play. When it was on N64 local multiplayer, things like that only added to the fun (you could punch the person that did it!) but in online races they try and make it as fair as possible, and I remember them patching MK7 to fix a track shortcut and you couldn't play online without the update. I'm sure people will find new exploits in the new tracks, and Nintendo will try to patch them out.

I haven't played Trine 2 yet, but that pretty much sums up how I felt about the first one.

I've also been trying to play Trine 2, and I too think soulless is the best way to describe it. Something about it just doesn't grab me, through this PS4 playthrough and my previous attempt on PS3. I even heard it was good for trophies, but I just have no desire to go back and play it. It could be that the devs are trying to force some story on us and I just plum don't care in (most) side scrolling platformers.

I've gone back to FF XIII. It's the first and only FF game I've played. This is my third time having a go at it. I'm on chapter 10 and it said my playtime was 34 hours. I'm determined to finish it. Not sure how long I've got left of it, but hopefully I'm over half way. I enjoy it enough when I'm playing it it just doesn't seem to hold my attention.

Unsurprisingly I am absolutely lost in the plot and can't remember my fal'si from my l'cie. I hate all these stupid names and apostrophies sci-fi and fantasy insist on using and all the logs in the menu are just too much. Was pretty non-plussed in my first battle too as I'd forgotten about paradigms, luckily it was only some small bat looking things so I didn't need any healing.

Kind of hoping I can get through the rest of the game just upgrading and not changing anything as I can't be bothered rereading all the details I'd need to know to make informed changes.

Been playing all the Borderlands 2 dlc. I dont think theyre that good. Captain Scarlett was good, but the Mr. Torgue and the Sir Hammerlock dlcs have been pretty lame. I didnt even bother doing the Hammerlock side missions. I just did one, and it was only for the skin.
Now I just started the Tiny Tina dlc its already loads better than all the other ones. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Also, the difficulty has been ridiculously easy as shit and the loot has sucked for all these dlcs. Eesh. Almost all my good equipment has been from using golden keys.

I started playing Bravely Default, and went out of the first town with the Default items, because i was feeling Brave (geddit?!).

Got stuck on the 2nd map of the first cave, down to 3 health and can't get anywhere without dying. LOL! Damn autosave.

Why the fuck do i have a Phoenix Down instead of a health potion? It does nothing! I'm alone!

Been playing some Sir. Pretty intense stuff.

My only major gripe so far is that some of the chunks of "The Device" are pretty huge, usually requiring getting rid of a fair amount of your gear to carry, and given you can't know until you open the crater the size it can be a bit hard to figure what needs chucking and your inventory doesn't pause the game so if you've distracted the robots you have scant time to ditch some gear and pick up the part.

Game itself though has great atmosphere, the Robots are quite fun to eavesdrop. Need to turn the music down/off a fair bit to get it all in. The lack of proper buildings isn't much of an issue as I might have thought. And all in in all stereotypical British goodness.

  • 2 weeks later...

After I ordered my Wii U I started playing Skyward Sword to pass the time, figuring my Wii might as well get one last hurrah.  Also, I've had Skyward Sword for over a year and just never got around to it.  I figured I'd just screw around with it until the Wii U came but now that it's here I still want to finish it.  I realize there's an irony in ordering a new console only to spend my time playing a game for the last one, but truth be told I like this one better than Wind Waker.  Sure, the wiimotion plus is required for things that don't really need it, and I get why people find that annoying, but I still don't see why everyone seems to hate this game.

I also feel the need to mention that this game has what I think is my favorite incarnation of Princess Zelda as a character.  I don't know why but I find her really endearing.  Fi, on the other hand, is a terrible companion.  She interrupts you to point out the obvious way too often and I don't think she's said a single helpful thing yet.  She even feels the need to buzz you when your wiimote batteries are low.  Thank you so much, Fi!  I never would have figured that out on my own from the battery indicator flashing nonstop!  Long story short, Fi is no Midna.  Hell, I think I'd even take Navi again.

I loved skyward sword too. I think we're just ahead of the curve-there arms to be a tendency to hate new recent Zeldas when they come out and opinions mellow and even become postpone over time.I guess people have such a long time to build up expectations between Zelda games their never going to be what people have imagined and put takes a while to get some perspective.

You could always transfer the save over to your Wii u. The HDMI out really improved the picture for me.

Soul Sacrifice. This is my second time starting it up and I think I finally got it. It's kind of fun once you understand all the shit they feed you in the first 15 minutes of it.

But this is a Japanese game, so Im just going to wait til the difficulty increases drastically to the point that I just give up. That train is never late.

And I bring this up because im also playing Hot Shots Golf and I had forgotten that I never finished it. It gets ridiculously hard. Same thing with Sonic Kart Transformed. I still have a lot of characters that I am never going to unlock. It pisses me off.
