toxicitizen
Man, Dustforce is fucking great but never before have I played a game that makes me go from one skill extreme to the other so frequently. I swear, it's like a constant cycle of "Hey, I think I'm actually getting pretty good at this!", then reaching the next set of levels and going "Wow, I have no fucking idea how to play this game..." It's so good, though. I just can't stop playing. Yesterday I actually wasted two big mugs of coffee while I was playing because both times I just got completely sucked into the game for 2+ hours and forgot to take sips. TCP
Spent a portion of today playing METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES again, to prepare for Tuesday and OH MY GOD. I forgot how well this game played. HYPE LEVEL: MAX!
Mr. GOH!
Playing Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, Alien:Isolation, Card Hunter, Fallout: New Vegas (with a shitload of graphics mods), and finishing up Kotor 2. Been quite nice, chillaxing and gaming more because I have shorter work hours until after labor day.
toxicitizen
Spent a portion of today playing METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES again, to prepare for Tuesday and OH MY GOD. I forgot how well this game played. HYPE LEVEL: MAX! Same here. Went back and S-ranked all the missions on hard and unlocked the last few things I needed to get 100% completion. I also made sure I had extracted every single unique character because apparently they tie into the save transfer thing and having extracted them unlocks them as Mother Base staff in The Phantom Pain. So now I'm all set for tuesday!

deanb
I've being playing FFX. Figured I'd aim for the full celestial weapon set and since this is 2015 there's now plenty of information on how to get yourself set up with Lulu (there's a specific crater with a 100% lightning strike, walk around in circles for 20 minutes...my highest is 149, which is 1 shy of getting a new item and 51 shy of the sigil) n Wakkas (If you "reset data" on Blitzball it increases chances of slots appearing, n less matches to play, then you get the sigil as a prize, it's 50:50 so just reboot until it pops up). In between that I've being going around terrorising other players in NFS: Rivals. Man it feels good to have a racing game to jump into. My only issue is cos it's through the US PSN it turns out PS4 is pretty stingy on rights so I can only play it when logged in to my other account. Which kinda sucks (it's deanbmmv2 should anyone wish to play with me) And since it's free weekend I played some ARK. It's alright, though not really any people around, just random chats. Though I know someone at least spotted me once cos they commented on seeing my torch (I put it out and "it's gone" I put it back on "oh it's there again", so I know it was me). Also a dead guy, but couldn't like loot it or anything. So yeah, seems a bit silly to be MP only in that regard, kinda sucks there's not a free play SP mode be nice to just hobble around, build huts, hunt dinosaurs etc. Which is my second issue, most dinosaurs leave you alone unless you attack first. However thee's these insects which are kinda hard to hit since they fly, inject poison and usually a fair few levels higher than you which tend to off me which got really annoying after the 5th time (when you die you pretty much start from scratch). All the dinos are leveled, but it's not like in any sensible "beach where you start is low leveled, as you go deeper in then it's higher stuff" it's just quite randomly scattered. They'll vanish too, so hunting can be frustrating. And via Eleven I've a HOMMVII beta key. So I've given that a bit of a whirl. It's HOMM with improved graphics. I didn't play VI, but it plays much like V did. My only issue with it is that when it's CPU turns it takes forever and it really chugs, music slows down, the trees stutter in the wind, etc. But it's a beta so when I figure where they actually want feedback for this I'll drop them a line. TheMightyEthan
An hour and a half in to MGSV: Ground Zeroes and I think I may be sold. My previous experience with the series consists of the first 10 minutes of MGS2. *Edit - But man does it make the PS4 sound like a hairdryer. TheMightyEthan
Started AC: Rogue yesterday. So far it's pretty much just Black Flag 2, which is fine because that's exactly what I wanted. I do miss the new free-running system from Unity though.
TCP
Are you playing on PC??
TheFlyingGerbil
Coincidentally, I'm playing that at the moment - I'm enjoying the plot more than normal, seems like he's actually struggling with some moral choices and trying to do the right thing rather than just being set off on a path and ploughing along it indiscriminately killing, though I'm ready for a change of scenery. I think just because the world may actually be too big for me now. Navigating the ship though all those narrow straits make the naval battles and fort capturing a bit awkward and too many separate places to drop anchor means I'm finding it a very disjointed experience. All the separate bits are good though like the cave exploring and even the viewpoints are often not just climb straight up the nearest tower and require a little route planning. Haven't played unity and I know it has technical problems, but I'm hoping they've used it as a chance to refocus (and dare I say give it a bit of a reboot). One thing I've found a bit weird is that the "back" menu button is also the main interact button so I'm often backing my way out of a menu only to jump straight back into it. I don't know if that's because I'm on 360 when I usually play them on PS3, but another side effect of that is I do not cope well with wild animal attacks as it's not just not the PS3 controller I'm used to for this series, but also the letters are the opposite way around to a Nintendo controller which is the other one I'm used to. That's only a small niggle though and I think the series remains a favourite.
TheMightyEthan
@TCP: Yes, I can't bring myself to go back to PS360. Although it has reminded me of a major reason why I like console games: I spent like an hour and a half yesterday just dicking with graphics settings instead of actually playing the game, although that is partially a symptom of having a really old graphics card. @TFG: Did you play Black Flag? Because this game is basically a reskin of that one.
TheFlyingGerbil
Yes I've played all the games except unity. Was a long while ago though. The only one I've not finished is the vita one
deanb
I didn't play Unity cos the disk is bust. I'll have to return it, assuming I'm in the window of returns (I kinda got it a few weeks ago but FFX has taken longer than expected)
TCP
Played a bit of Grow Home last night. What a great little game. Very relaxing, once you get into the flow of it it's kind of hypnotic. Just climb, grow, occasionally fall, and climb some more.
deanb
I started playing that and got pretty stumped as to what you're meant to do, controls were very needlessly QWOP like. Bit of a bummer, devs are not far from work I guess I could go ask em.
Mal
I finally getting back around to Revengence and I didn't die horribly in the areas I've been to before I stopped. The only times I died was fighting the Metal Gear Ray clone during the running down the tower sequence. All boss fights proper though I survived without much of a sweat. I think I can enjoy this now.
TCP
I played a bit of Assassin's Creed Syndicate this weekend. I'm happy to report it's not garbage! It's the most "assassin" AC game since the last Ezio game. There's a huge focus on fist fighting combat which kind of makes it feel a bit like Batman. Also there's a rope launcher, again, like Batman. The female character, Evie, is very likeable and probably the best protagonist since Ezio. Besides being a total screw up, her brother is unremarkable. It's too bad the game couldn't have just focused on Evie, both her personality and play style are unique and a breath of fresh air, something this series badly needs. Anytime the game forces you to play as Jacob it's automatically less enjoyable. Doesn't sound like the game is selling well, I hope Ubisoft doesn't think that's due to the game having a female character. London itself is a little dreary but well captured, there's definitely a lot of giant climbable iconic buildings. At the end of the day, it's pretty similar to Rome and Paris. Hopefully next year we get Egypt or Japan or something else a little less western. The modern day stuff feels very shoehorned in and is very clearly an after thought. I enjoyed the Desmond stuff of AC1-3, and I kind of feel like Ubisoft painted themselves in a corner by killing him off. The whole modern day stuff just feels so half baked and directionless now. Syndicate's present day segments are very much like Unity, maybe with a few more cutscenes. I'm still not sure who I'm suppose to be playing as, or what the point of any of this is. It was much better when you were someone from the modern era exploring the memories of your assassin ancestors, learning how to become an assassin yourself. The whole series got way too focused on the first people, Juno, magical sci-fi shit, all that. Though, I haven't seen anything on that so far in Syndicate, besides the search for a piece of eden. deanb
London itself is a little dreary but well captured But? I'm currently playing DA:I (it fell to wayside after GTAV and Witcher 3) with Rebel Galaxy inbetween which is a nice combo of slow plodding fantasy RPG and zippy space shooting. DA:I I've unfortunately done most of the quests apart from the main, but there's a bunch of "Operations" to go through and they take hours to process. I'd skip them but a bunch of them tie into loyalty missions and such (so far I've unlocked all but Solas and Cassandra...in fact Solas sends me to unlock these weird globes to hold back the fade or what not but there's no counter for those in the Journal like others and don't seem to have any impact at all). Oh cos it'd been so long I forgot you get a horse in this one (well mount, I'm on a drake thing) so spent a lot longer in Wastes than should have done. TheMightyEthan
I don't feel like Ubi painted themselves into a corner so much as failed to capitalize on where they'd gone. You had the whole Desmond dying, Juno being released into the world, and then just... nothing happens. Everything's still the same. It's weird.
Mister Jack
I'm trying to beat Crypt of the Necrodancer to get it out of my backlog and holy crap, zone 3 is just kicking my ass. Has anyone here actually beat the whole game? Are there any tips to better prepare for zone 3 or get through it more easily? The difficulty spike is just so immense that I feel like I must be overlooking something.

Haven't touched the game in a while because of it, which is a shame because up until that point I was loving the hell out of it.

Gameplay pro tip: start an operation, alt-tab to desktop and move your system time forward. Works every time. By the way, none of it makes any difference anyway, even the loyalty missions. The game's basically a one giant time sink with no payoff, so... I'm hung up on WItcher 3 again. After Hearts of Stone (which was fantastic, CDPR has once again shown how much creativity they can put into their quests and storylines) I'm having another stab at the campaign, this time trying out the New Game+ mode. I just hope I'll have enough time to finish it before Fallout 4 comes out.

toxicitizen
I was watching Matthewmatosis' 6 hours long Dark Souls commentary on and off last week and it gave me an itch to play some Dark Souls. I ended up ignoring TitS SC all week-end but it was worth it because I am finally done with the game! There was much less farming involved than I had anticipated because it turns out I already had a significant amount of the required items piled up. I mostly just needed to get the last few miracles/sorceries/pyromancies I was still missing, max out a weapon of each type and craft all the boss weapons. Overall, it felt like a much less tedious completion process than I remember Demon's Souls being. It feels good to finally be done with the game, though, as I've been working on it on and off ever since they released the Steamworks update and I really wanted to get it done before Dark Souls III comes out. Also, more importantly, now I can get back to TitS.
