Playing through BioShock 1 for the first time right now. I'm enjoying it, not so much the "atmosphere" and "omg story" like everyone else, but because this game gets "level design" and "exploration" totally right. No bullshit "minimap" used as a crutch to substitute shitty level design, levels flow well enough into each other and rooms have a good enough structure that I can find my way around the levels without having to look at the map at all. Plus, all the goodies hidden in random parts of the levels make exploration a joy.

Other developers should take notes. THIS is how you design a game's world. If you feel the need to put a GPS minimap telling you where absolutely everything is at all times in the main in-game HUD, you're doing it wrong.

Mass Effect. Again. I'm working on getting all my characters through and ready for ME3. I've decided for the last three though I'm just going to do the main stuff and ignore the sidequests (I've already got 3 characters that I've done absolutely everything with in both games). Trying to get this done before the Arrival DLC comes out on the 29th.

Currently playing Chrono Trigger on the DS.

Fans of the game avert thy eyes:

Holy crap balls the level design is terrible. Thankfully there's a map on the bottom screen that is pretty plain so helps with moving around.

The general flow of the game and "where to go next" isn't really heavily highlighted either. You kind of just back trace your steps usually.

Other than that, it's an okay game. The battle system isn't too bad (though the combo system is a bit temperamental)

The map made Chrono Trigger so much better. I had tried SNES ROM's before but finally caved and beat the DS version earlier this year. For me, the story, characters, and battle system all pushed it to greatness.

I've been playing Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon Black, Portal 2, HL2: Episode 2, Batman:AA, Epic Mickey, Red Steel 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and A Boy and His Blob. All good games with varying degrees of greatness.
