TheMightyEthan
I've been playing Until Dawn. Pretty well nails the teen horror genre. I thought the two big "twists" so far were pretty obvious though, even several hours ahead of time. Which I guess is another way that it's nailing the genre. TheMightyEthan
That Josh was the "psycho" (or working with him) and that Hannah is one of the monsters.
TCP
Witcher 3 is a fine game, but I (and I don't think I'm alone here) think Witcher 2 is the pinnacle of that series from a gameplay and story perspective. Witcher 3 is almost too much game, it's too daunting. Daniel, please keep in mind, since you are someone with a Tearaway avatar, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. Ok that said, I really, really, really hate the complaint that The Witcher 3 is too big, too daunting, there's too much to do. That simply isn't true. You can very easily only playthrough the main storyline and it'll be no longer than the average game. CD Project Red shouldn't be criticized for offering too much content in their games, especially when so much of it is optional. "It's too repetitive, boring, missions lack variety", etc etc is all fine criticism but offering too much content should never be a negative. Just my two cents!

Just my two cents!I finished Witcher 3 and enjoyed my time doing it, but I think the way in which most people play games likely prevents them from experiencing everything the game has to offer. I've heard so many people say they put the game down for a week or two to play something else, and then found it difficult to pick it back up again. I'm far from criticising the game for it's depth of content, they should be praised for filling it with so much good content; but at the same time that is going to prevent people from finishing it. *edit Let's talk about Tearaway some more yeah? TheFlyingGerbil
Dean have you looked into bravely default? Several people have said that while it makes concessions to modern conventions, it's a return to the roots of the final fantasy series gameplay. Very much s best of both worlds rather than falling between two stools..
Mister Jack
I sorta get where Daniel is coming from. Even if you don't HAVE to do everything in these big open-world RPGs, sometimes it just feels so daunting when you're faced with everything that's laid out in front of you. I remember when I was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition I was stuck in the Hinterlands for days on end and there came a point when I started thinking "Fuck, I'm never going to finish this." I could have just skipped the sidequests, but what if one of them gave me something important or useful!? I can't take that chance!

Lost Oddyssey is in my mind the best 7th gen Final Fantasy game. A shame it never went multi-plat.
Mr. GOH!
I've been switching between Trails in the Sky and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin in order to experience the full breadth of non-erotic (unless you're a freak) Japanese RPGs. TheMightyEthan
But I thought the whole point of playing Japanese games was the eroticism.

SomTervo
I've been playing Until Dawn. Pretty well nails the teen horror genre. I thought the two big "twists" so far were pretty obvious though, even several hours ahead of time. Which I guess is another way that it's nailing the genre. I loved it until the twist in-between the two twists you mention. The twist with the Wendigo almost ruined it for me - not because it went supernatural, but because the focus moved away from group dynamics and drama and more towards playing one character at a time. I played the entire thing with four family members - for the first half we were rapt, then from that second half it got more and more disappointing. Also didn't like the ending, but I assume you're not there yet so I'll keep mum. Witcher 3 is a fine game, but I (and I don't think I'm alone here) think Witcher 2 is the pinnacle of that series from a gameplay and story perspective. Witcher 3 is almost too much game, it's too daunting. No wai TW2's high-level story being better I definitely think there's an argument for, I can see that, but in terms of gameplay? TW3 is better in literally every way. Movement, combat, RPGing, dialogue/outcomes, yadda. Anyway. Not a Witcher thread.
Baconrath
Still plugging away at FE Conquest. I feel like they wanted to make it more like Ye Olde Fire Emblem by taking out the grinding but didn't bother to adjust anything else to compensate for that fact (which makes that map pack look reeeaal tempting). Mister Jack
Ugh, I'm trying to finally get through XCOM: Enemy Within so I can move on to XCOM 2, but I'm getting my ass kicked so hard that it's just getting stressful and frustrating. I forgot how damn difficult this game was, and I'm beginning to wonder if I really want to keep subjecting myself to this.

Normal without Ironman mode should be pretty easy unless you're playing like an idiot. Also, if you're getting your ass kicked and you end up losing, then technically you're within the canon and ready to move on to XCOM 2.
Mister Jack
Yes, I'm on normal. The actual fights weren't too hard at first but it's the base building and panic that keeps fucking me over.

Define fucking you over. If you're losing a country here and there, that's kinda normal. You shouldn't expect to keep them all on the council. Mister Jack
Last playthrough I couldn't keep any of them below 3 bars. Panic just rises faster than I can keep up with it.
toxicitizen
Yeah, that's pretty normal. Unless you're losing more than 3-4 countries then you're not doing particularly bad. At what point in the campaign are you? Doing main story missions like the first alien base decreases panic globally, so it can help to time one of those to get the most out of that effect. Mister Jack
I restarted again, so I'm on my fourth playthrough now. I couldn't get past the alien base with the resources I had. I was doing okay until the God damn chryssalids showed up.

TheFlyingGerbil
I just finished the first episode of wolf among us. It's the first telltale game I've played and I don't think I'll be playing another. It's because of the timed decision making and no going bAck in decisions just stress me out too much. my brain just doesn't work fast enough and I make a decision I didn't mean to. Don't get me wrong wrong though, I know that's what makes the game but I ripped Grendel's arm off and absolutely am not happy with that and it's going to spoil the rest of the game for me. I may replay the whole episode just for that one decision, but then what happens if I mess up again? I can't keep replaying it and don't even think I should as that defeats the point. Urgh. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I had to force myself on those games to only go back and redo something if I felt like the game was being unfair (like if the option description didn't adequately communicate what it meant or something). I liked that in LiS, by contrast, the time-rewindy powers made it so you could go back and do something different without feeling like it was cheating. deanb
While I'm not a huge Telltale fan either, I'd recommend giving "Fables" a read if you're into the story/lore of that game at least (it's what Wolf Amongst Us is based on)
