danielpholt
The Lego Movie: The Game of the Movie - Technically we're playing this at the moment. I wanted something me and my GF could play together (that wasn't Minecraft), and after a few suggestions we decided to plump for this. Mistake. We've put an hour into it so far and it's crashed on us twice. Turns out Tt really aren't all that bothered about post-release support on their games, and so I think we're destined to have spent money on a game that's fundamentally broken. They won't be getting my money again. What makes it worse however, is that this is a product marketed at children. I expect better from WB, Tt and Lego. Weak. Planet Coaster - Like I said in the other thread, It's really really good. If you're into managing a theme park, or simple want to see what you can build/how many people you can kill with 1 wooden rollercoaster, you should give it a chance. F1 2016 - I had a real urge to play a racing game a few weeks ago, and F1 caught my eye. It's great (if you're into that sorta thing), I turn most of the assists off, notch the AI upto hard and start my career with the shittest team on the grid. A few moments of serious frustration with the AI that resulted in wasted hours aside, I'm really really impressed with Codemasters offering here. I think I'm going to go play some more. TheMightyEthan
Did you get it on Steam? Cause if so just refund it.
danielpholt
I'll point out I suggested Marvel Heroes. Which runs fine.If I had it my way I'd have gone for The Hobbit or one of the superhero ones. Girlfriend isn't much into those franchises however. And nah, got it on eBay didn't I. New copy, cheap but hardly worth the hassle of returning as its not technically his fault its a buggy pile of shite. deanb
Jumping through a bunch of games atm. Loaded up Gat Out of Hell other day since it was on PS+. I quite liked SRIII n SRIV, but I guess it's maybe cos I've been away from the games for a while and I guess it assumed you're jumping into GOoH straight out of SRIV but since I haven't it feels pretty damn clunky. I guess I also played SRIV on PC too which means kb+m rather than a controller for a shooter. It has quite a few annoying habits too, such as I can save anywhere but I'll end up at Ultor everytime. So I'd flown over to rescue Vlad then called it a night n saved so I could but up next day n get right to it. Nope. Also the cut scenes for some reason take a fair while to kick in, like I was off doing a side quest and I ended up in a mainline cut scene musical and ...back at Ultor. Like I hadn't done anything to trigger the cut scene, I was just flying about, got a message through and then poof cut scene. There's a lot more effort put in the map than I would have initially assumed though.
Saturnine Tenshi
So I loaded my first playthrough in an attempt to unlock all the core Gwent cards (for the achievement, because they don't carry over to NG+). Ended up with one left, which was a random merchant drop. That meant I had to scour the world for the single fucking merchant I hadn't d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-dueled yet. Happened to find one in Skellige (all the while dueling each I came across just in case). In the meantime, I was trying to get the achievement for winning with over 187 strength. Thanks to the two of us snowballing spies, I ended up humiliating the achievement in the same match that dropped the missing card. TheMightyEthan
Started Titanfall 2, and I'm super enjoying it so far (the campaign). Also, the environments are gorgeous (though up close the textures leave something to be desired)
Saturnine Tenshi
Started Watch_Dogs 2 today. About three and a half hours ago. I never really cared about the first game. Didn't even try it. But I've a vested interest in the series now. So decided I should try it. Pleasantly surprised. Hacking the environment to assist in missions and everyday mayhem is great. There was some gang shooting in an underground parking deck. One of those random open world events. Went down and just hacked cars and had them run over the gangbangers. Because gangbangers aren't real people. I'm also pretty impressed with the multiplayer. It's absolutely seamless. You're doing your thing, and without any interruption you're being invaded or doing the invading. Could be assisting the police in chasing down another player who's on the run, or tasked with performing a hack while going unnoticed by the enemy player. Oh, and the cast feels natural. Not much forced dialog. Also doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. Feels very much like Grand Theft Auto in its presentation, though GTAV probably still does open world better in nearly every way. But that's Rockstar's thing. Also enjoy snooping on NPCs' texts and phone calls. Amusing stuff.
TCP
Started Final Fantasy XV last night. Christ, that frame rate is atrocious. Also weird that four posh dudes in a modern setting are getting out of their expensive Italianish car to go kill random wild animals with swords. The Coleman's product placement is a little much. That said, I'm enjoying the openness of the world, the characters seem fine certainly no one is as bad as Hope or Vanille, and the combat is ok. TheMightyEthan
I've been playing Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void. I finished the prologue and the first two story missions, and so far so good.
TheMightyEthan
To keep with the above format: I've been playing Hitman (2016). I finished the prolgue and the first two story missions, and so far so good. I've tried the previous Hitman games (Hitman, Hitman 2, and Blood Money) and always bounced off, but I kept hearing so much good stuff about this one that I tricked myself into trying it. Well I'm glad I did! I love how the missions feel like giant, insanely intricate puzzles. Like even though on paper it sounds like a stealth action game, in practice it feels more like playing Hitman Go than it does like playing Splinter Cell. I love that the stealth is primarily geared around hiding in plain sight rather than actual sneaking.
Mr. GOH!
I've been playing Watch Dogs 2 and Dishonored 2. Loving them both. Trying not to kill anyone in either. I never played the Dishonored 1 DLC, or even finished it, so the witches in Dishonored 2 surprised me. Am I missing significant lore about them?
TheMightyEthan
Pretty sure the lore is basically "blah blah blah, void magic". Don't quote me on that though. *Edit - as far as plot goes (spoilers for Daud DLC, no spoilers for Dishonored 2): They were a coven run by Delilah. At the end of the Daud DLC Daud either kills Delilah or imprisons her in the Void. The canon ending is that he imprisoned her. toxicitizen
Just tried Salt & Sanctuary. Alternate title: 2D Dark Souls Rip-Off. Like, you know how Rogue Legacy is kinda like 2D Dark Souls? Yeah, Salt & Sanctuary is exactly like Dark Souls, but in 2D. I knew that going in but I honestly didn't expect it to be so 100% identical. Virtually everything so far is lifted straight from the Souls series, right down to the font they use to display area names on screen as you enter them. Even the combat is the same kind of weighty sword and shield kinda deal complete with a dodge roll. My first hour of play basically went: tutorial level -> (presumably) unbeatable tutorial boss -> wake up at first bonfire sanctuary -> first real area -> die at first boss like 20 fucking times -> victory at last -> new area -> die to regular enemy mob -> come back but die again and lose my souls salt -> rage quit. I think I'm going to love this game but right now I kinda hate it. So yeah, they pretty much got the Souls experience down perfectly! So far the only major difference is the leveling up. Works mostly the same way (spend salt to level up at sanctuaries) but instead of distributing attribute points there's an FFX-like tree you progress through. So I couldn't just dump my points directly in strength, I had to find a branch with nodes I actually wanted and start making my way towards them. So my first few levels went in wisdom despite me playing a melee character. Not sure how that'll work out yet. TheMightyEthan
I've been playing Halo Wars Definitive Edition. I love this game probably more than it deserves. I finally got my code for it right before Christmas so I'm trying to get it finished up so I can dive into the games I got as gifts. Once I finish it (probably tomorrow, I only have one level left) I think I'm gonna tackle Wolfenstein The New Order.
toxicitizen
Are you playing it on PC or XO? Given that it was originally designed and balanced to be played with a controller exclusively, I'm really curious about whether it becomes laughably easier once you add in m/kb controls. TheMightyEthan
PC but I'm using a controller.
Saturnine Tenshi
Pillars of Eternity With all the games I was fortunate enough to be gifted this year, it's almost harrowing trying to choose which to play first. But a close friend of many years gifted Pillars, so here I am. Not a bad experience thus far, if you're into the old isometric Icewind Dale- and Baldur's Gate-type RPGs. Certainly imitates them very well. Main character is an elven chanter named Sarlaith Proseloudly. It's somewhat disappointing that the chants aren't voiced besides some unintelligible stuff here and there. Probably would get irritating after a while, but I would've liked to at least have it every now and then. The way Obsidian handled backer characters in-game was inventive, even going as far as not just tying them into the main plot, but making them supplement it pretty well. Only if you're looking to read the long text that goes with, though. I did find myself a little confused by the named NPC until I asked the guy who gifted it (he was a backer, so he's in there somewhere). Generally, I expect NPCs with actual names to be important characters. Guild Wars 2 Been raiding with the static weekly, though that's on hiatus for the holidays. Besides that, been doing the Wintersday event. And climbing the PvP ladder this season. Finally made it to Platinum. I probably belong in low Platinum/high Gold given that I've hovered around that point for 99 games, with a 55% win rate. Edit: Oh. Darkest Dungeon Got this to run on my Surface Pro 2 while I was away from the computer. It runs really well, actually, but there are issues with giving commands and using certain items. It's playable, but you're more crippled than you already are. Anyway, it's an atmospheric, unforgiving dungeon crawler. I'd like to see more of these (and roguelikes) that offer more variety and creativity in their encounters. As it stands, Darkest Dungeon is good anyhow. TheMightyEthan
Wolfenstein: The New Order Great shooter so far, although goddamn does it wear its last-gen versions on its sleeve. I'm playing on PC at max graphics and it is just not a pretty game. *Edit - Oh, and the soundtrack is fantastic.
danielpholt
Shadow Warrior 2. They've turned it into some awful Borderlands type game with bad loot, bullet sponge enemies and repetitive maps. What the fuck happened?
Hot Heart
Started AC: Syndicate and, oh my god, this is soooo much better than the last-gen AC games. Sure, I'm not a pirate or whatever but the controls are actually good (fast descend, yes!), the animations are smooth and the mission/map design is quite layered and open. The voice acting is a little hit and miss but I like the characters.
Saturnine Tenshi
I've heard it's one of the better ones. Have it sitting unopened at the moment. Let us know what you think.
deanb
Been playing Watch_Dogs 2. Really great game. The drones are extremely fitting (and I love the cute little animation for plugging in rPis the RC has) and help with expand the levels a bit to be less of a "hack from camera to camera to camera" as the first was in many cases. Though there is still some repetition to missions (mainly some of the smaller side quests where it becomes a case of "find where the scissor lift is"). I quite enjoyed the SpaceX mission, where after hopping around with both drones n finding I wasn't in reach I got into the building proper, then found I had to be in. It's then I'm like "wait, that's probably what the big container in the middle of the building is for", so ended up surfing from my hidey hole over to the lab to hack a motherboard, then had to hop back on to go back to my hidey hole which was the mission objective. Then escape, where in my cockiness of the ease of it all I fucked up a jump from a ledge and landed right in the restricted zone area in the visitor centre setting off a massive chase. Oh the clothing options in this are great. Like especially compared to stuff like GTA. You can get a pretty broad range of styles, and mix and match it up in a variety of ways (and despite all that I've a dapper Marcus going around hacking in his suit). Not wholly keen on locking out the research trees based on invading certain areas and missions, I guess it's meant to gate it as you go through the game, but it tells you where to get them, at least the area, and I'm wanting the double jump RC and it tells me that's in Palo Alto, but I've gone through all the streets and never has the research node for that shown up on my map. Oh I thought I'd disabled the online stuff, but seems not as I'll have the odd person try and bother me while I'm doing missions. What's kind of annoying is I sometimes get kicked for not having anti-cheat, and I get alerts that others are too (so I suspect the anti-cheat protection is bust ).
Saturnine Tenshi
Are you sure about the research-gating? Could just be me, but if I wanted something in particular I never had trouble finding it. You're using Hackervision, right? Then looking for the green staticy thing? Also, man, you're missing out. The invasions and bounties are great diversions.
Mr. GOH!
Watch Dogs 2 is pretty great. I'm pausing on it to play some backlog, but looking forward to returning to it. The clothing options are amazing. The tone is the right amount of zany. Like all open-world games, it can get repetitive. Not as bad as Ubi's stuff from a couple years ago, to be sure. There's a good variety of things to do. The gating is very minimal, but it's there. I feel like it's short enough that the beginning part of the game before you have access to the basic suite of powers and both drones is just a tutorial. Just reinstalled ME2. Might play through it before andromeda drops. Edited January 9, 2017 by Mr. GOH!
