I hope you have a high leveled gravity kick. I find that's probably what I use the most.

I ended up having to upgrade my gravity kick for this optional boss

Which is kicking my ever-loving ass right now. I've died like 20 times so far, yet I keep on trucking.

Wow... that's crazy. I'm just several missions in so far, but I'm still finding it really hard to move gracefully from point to point. I'm always crashing into and through things, doing kicks straight past nevi that simply sidestep, and doing throws that result in the object just shattering in front of me instead of taking flight... I hope it starts to feel a bit smoother soon because I am not having much luck with that game.

How many missions did you have to do before controlling it started to feel natural?

(edit: grammar may be optional, but I think this post works better with it...)

To be honest, some of it never feels "natural", especially the gravity slide. Gravity slide races feel like you're running with a shopping cart while wearing ice skates. But other than that, 5-6 missions in and I felt like I got the hang of things. It's just like how you start "thinking with portals" after you play a lot of Portal; you quickly map out your destination and what you need to do to get there in your head.

I still feel that sliding is a rubbish it just doesn't feel responsive enough (maybe need to upgrade sliding more).

Haven't played this game yet (waiting for my replacement Vita since I plan to reformat my memory card and so don't want to start now) but from general experience that kind of thing is the hardest to decide. Is it just crap now and I need to upgrade it, or will it always be crap and will upgrading be a waste of points?

I don't think experience points are limited. There are replayable areas with monsters that respawn so while time might be wasted, points aren't. Either way, I'd be interested if responsiveness improves. Or at least if speed improves to the point that you can go, stop and spin, rather than actually driving.

To be fair, it is only necessary in a few time trials, so not story significant, but mildly vexing nonetheless.

I'm trying to convince myself to get Gravity Rush. I have a few questions:

1. Does the game have English VA? As I recall, the demo didn't.

2. In terms of mechanics, how does it compare to crisis core? I'm asking because I consider Crisis Core a very good portable game, as it has tons of missions you can do on the go, albeit repetitive, it gives me something to strive for so, so I do feel rewarded as I complete the next harder missions. I've read from you guys posts that there are missions although I don't know how similar they are.

3. Does it have some sort of materia system? Like DNA boards and gun upgrades in The 3rd birthday or Materia in Crisis Core? Something similar? (Yes I like Squeenix portables)

4. Someone mentioned inFamous. Is there an open world?

5. Could I have researched all of this? Maybe. I'll watch a review after I post this. Reading is for losers.

1. I'm not sure if the speech is actually in any language. It sounds like Simlish to me.

2. Battles aren't random like in Crisis Core. It's more like inFamous I guess, except that you don't get enemies just strolling about the place (at least not that I've seen yet). Missions are varying types. Time Attack - Kill monsters within time limit. Three types of races. Sliding, Free Race and Energy Race. Some fetch and carry missions. They are activated by visiting a spot in the world. So they do fit the "I've got two minutes to earn a gold medal" gameplay that the Crisis Core missions had.

3. The "RPG" elements are very light. You have a number of moves and stats that you can upgrade, but it's not like you will go for a certain type of build. You just max everything out over time.

4. It is indeed open world.

5. Yes, you could have.

I think i've just reached Chapter 15. Am i the only one who thinks the game is suffering from being quite simplistic? You walk around, talk to some random who spouts information, then look for the red marker and begin your next mission. Then you get into a fight with a giant monster.

It's all a little boring.

Don't get me started on those damn slide races.

Sounds like Shadow of the Colossus but with more talking. I think you are oversimplifying the game. There's plenty of variety:

1. Story missions.

Navigating from point A to B.

Fighting lots of small monsters.

Fighting a big monster.

Fetch quests.

Survival against many many monsters.

2. Challenges.

Pretty much the above but with a time limit.

3. Hunting the rare Nevi.

4. Finding the people lost in time.

5. Tooling about, talking to people and collecting gems.

I think the developers of Gravity Rush expected some kind of similarities to Shadow of the Colossus or even Red Dead Redemption. A game where half of it is just traversing, going from one place to another because the gamer wants to "soak it all in". At least thats the way I feel about it. Flying around is just a lot of fun that I truly dont expect other parts of the game, like the combat to be more "deeper" than they already are. Everyone seems to dislike the simplistic mashy combat, but I wouldnt want Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden type combat from a game like this. I think it would be cumbersome and take away from everything else. People would focus more on making combos than on using gravity attacks. Theyd be pointless and the game would cease to be it's own original thing. God knows it wouldnt appeal to all the people Gravity Rush appeals to as it is now.

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden and DMC, but those games arent friendly to people who dont want to learn the game outside and inside out. Mastering the mechanics that are in GR are already something the "hardcore" can focus on. Thats another problem people have with the game - it's not precise enough. Well, its not supposed to be. This isnt a Sonic game. It doesnt have an exact autolock. Its only mildly autolock with some attacks, but you still have to time your attacks right and configure them as you go along. Precision and timing is just something you get better at with time.

The game is just wild.

Hey Gravity Rushers...

How many of you fought this guy?

I gave it a shot, but this was the first time I've seen the "Game Over" screen. I was actually just starting to think there's not much actual challenge in the game beyond wrestling with the controls but this guy kills me every single time, in two hits, is immune to super attacks and doesn't appear to take damage from anything else either.

I went on without fighting him and later saw a slightly different looking one, but he was a wuss... I broke every orb on his body in one kick each and when I took a punch from him it did almost no damage. She's not kidding that this one isn't like the others!

There's a couple of challenging missions later on. The 3 rare nevi are the biggest challenge combat wise, largely since they are immune to your specials and hit very hard, but they are all doable. I didn't go toe to toe with them. I just did some hit and run attacks and then found a health orb, wash, rinse, repeat.

If you kill the nevi on the Saturn-ish rock there will be a health orb that keeps reappearing. I just took a trip to the flying one. Hit it a few times and then scurried off to get my health back. Did that a few times till it went down. The hardest bit of that one is knowing when to retreat. A few times I was one node from killing it and pushed my luck too far.
