Preordered the PC version.

reason? (I'm sure you're one of them that was eyeing up the PS3 version). Just wanting to see the whys n why nots of others.

I was considering the PS3 version, but I decided the likelihood that I would ever use it, ever, was so low that it wasn't worth paying $10 more for it.

Only 10$? Then I take it you didn't pre-order it on Steam since the 10% pre-order discount makes it 15$ lower than the PS3 version.

Which begs the question: if you went for the PC version, why wouldn't you pre-order directly through Steam?

It's cheaper, and you'll have to register it anyway.

1) Gamestop also had it for $5 off. The PS3 version was $5 off too. So $55 for PS3, $45 for PC (same as on Steam).

2) I only buy games digitally if they're significantly cheaper than buying a physical copy, because I prefer to have that physical copy that I have control of.

I might be wrong but for a steamworks title, we practically have no control. As far as I can remember with Civ 5 and New Vegas (both of which I bought via online retailers), they both pretty much launch steamworks, download content and install at the same time and the disc is practically useless unless you want to keep it in a shelf along with the box to remind you that you own the game.

I don't feel the disc has any purpose. However in the UK, physical retail is almost always cheaper than steam at release. I only buy from steam during sales because I can get most PC games for £24.99 or £17.99 during the launch week and steam charges me £26.99 to £34.99 which when compared to online retailers is more. However if you're one to keep the box then it makes sense.

Outside of that reply, I got my copy of DA2 today and after all the registration I noticed that unlike DA:O this pops up right on your EA download Manager. So you can't de-auth it anymore unlike with DA:O where you could.

You know someone should get them to update their PC Manuals. :P There's no ea.onlineregister.com and you can register games on the EA site based on interest. If you've played it, they'll know and do it for you. But the last page on the manual is totally obsolete. However there seems to be a lot more streamlining at the moment.

Well steamworks wise if the price is the same I see no point buying the boxed copy.

Especially after my last steamworks PC game, Sup Com 2. You need to tie it to steam to download the rest of the game. It was an anti-piracy measure. I guess it kinda makes sense, even if you got the disc n cracked the steam DRM, you'd still need steam in order to download the other half of the game.

Certainly not great when you get the game day one and 3 of you downloading 2GBs each.

I agree that getting a boxed copy of a Steamworks game seems kinda pointless, but I can't really argue with someone who prefers owning a physical copy.

I'm the same way with consoles. I would never buy digital versions of PS3 games (like MAG or ACII) that have a physical copy.

Though that mostly comes from not being convinced that my PSN content will carry over to the next-gen playstation.

I don't have enough hard drive space to keep all my games installed/backed-up, so I like to have a copy of the data on a physical disc.

That said, if the digital version is significantly cheaper (like 10-20% cheaper) I'll buy the digital version instead.

I was going to get this or Enslaved. I hope i made the right choice.

I started playing Enslaved yesterday and it's pretty damn good so far.

It's tempting to call it an Uncharted ripoff, but the similarities stop at the platforming.

The combat, being mostly melee-based, is entirely different. Plus, so far the enemies are mostly robots.

I'll vouch for Nier. The soundtrack is good and the banter is pretty fun really. I mean yeah the graphics look a bit meh and there's one dungeon I dislike. But it has some unique touches like the village where everyone's asleep.

Not to mention when you play Nier, people on your friendslist will get curious since it puts up some absurd status messages.

The game though is just great. Let me know if you get stuck on the fishing, it's easy once you figure it out :). But feels stupid hard at first and I remember almost giving up the first time but after that i was like Ohhh.

I'd say it was probably one of the better games of the year. Waay better than Enslaved. I still have yet to finish it and it's all because you can tell the story is going the Simulacra way which to me is quite meh. They could've done a much better adaptation of journey to the west. However if you've never been exposed to that classic piece of literature then yes you probably would enjoy it more.

Bought Shogun 2. Best purchase I've made all year.

Late to the party, finally purchased New Vegas. Have been meaning to for so long. Needed a game that I could draw out until La Noire. New Vegas should be good.

Several hours down and I've not even finished the first two quests. Man I love exploring.

boxed copies of steamworks games are only good because you don't have to wait for the game to download which can take a while for some bigger games. I was kinda pissed when Supreme Commander 2 only shipped with half the game on the disc and the other half had to download. That was truly pointless.
