I'll get it if/when it's below $10.  Looks interesting, but not quite interesting enough to justify more than that.

I'm in the same boat but I have one of those friends who talks about it every couple of days and it seems so interesting. Like a lot of the mayhem from something like Dwarf Fortresss but it looks like it could be played by normal people.

Radeon HD 6970. 100$ used from my cousin. My GTX 295 is now officially retired. It's not exactly recent and I'm usually more of an Nvidia man but I just couldn't pass up such a cheap upgrade. I lose some horsepower going from dual GPUs to single but it's otherwise technically superior in every way. More than double the VRAM and also does DX11.

My first thought: "I can finally play Assassin's Creed III!"

Once in-game: "Wow, it actually somehow runs fucking worse."

I give up. I am never going to be able to play that fucking game. Maybe my CPU is the problem. I still think Ubisoft's engine is an unoptimized piece of crap, though.

At least everything else seems to run significantly better. I can actually max out Chivalry now without my framerate tanking. So it no longer looks bland and terrible. Also, lighting effects! I only briefly tried Arkham City but the tesselation looks pretty cool.

Isn't tearing an issue only when the framerate is ridiculously high? Like, I'll turn it on when playing something like Half-Life 2 because even maxed out I get 100+ fps and that causes a lot of tearing. But usually I find the performance hit to not be worth it unless I'm getting significantly higher than 60fps.

Tearing can be an issue any time a frames are being generated out of sync with the refresh rate of the monitor.  It can be either higher or lower.  What vsync does is make the GPU wait and only deliver frames to the monitor in time with the refresh rate, rather than whenever it finishes the frame.  Further reading:  http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_9.html

It's just a personal preference thing, tearing doesn't bother some people, but it bothers the shit out of me.  That article I linked says that vsync can reduce fps by up to 50%, but in my experience (on my rig) it's usually more like 10-20%.  I'd rather run at 30 fps with solid frames than 40 with tearing.

I thought it would be appropriate to steal Ethan's bandwidth for this BUT GUESS WHAT HE WAS ALREADY STEALING IT THE DIRTY HOTLINKER

Was tempted to get the special edition but then I realised I don't really care for the extra stuff, it's £19 extra...aaaaand it's a steelbook.

Steelbooks can choke on a dick.

Also, when I stole your image last time I didn't realize you weren't hotlinking.  Sorry.  :P
