excel_excel
Alan Wake is €28 on Steam here. Is this the first time we've had the best deal on a game on Steam in Europe?! ...still a bit expensive, I may wait for the steam sale in a few weeks. toxicitizen
Well I'm definitely not buying Alan Wake now. Not because $30 is too much, but because it's too much for a DD game, and apparently no retailer is carrying the physical copy for PC. Retail version doesn't come out until march. As far as I'm aware, only the Steam version is available at the moment. And, assuming that by DD you mean digital distribution: wat. Why does it make any difference? TheMightyEthan
I don't fully trust DD services not to just have my "purchases" vanish into the ether, so I prefer to buy a physical disc. Even if it's a Steamworks game, it's both easier and less morally grey to crack my purchased disc copy than to pirate the whole thing in the event that that happens. I will only buy DD in 2 situations: 1) it's enough cheaper than retail to overcome my preference (usually has to be about 25% cheaper, but it depends on how expensive it is to start with) or 2) it's just outright cheap enough that I don't care (that's about the $10 range). *Edit* - Also, even if it's not coming out in retail until March, I'd still expect preorder options to be up, at least on Amazon and Gamestop. toxicitizen
Eh, I can't really argue with that. I used to feel the same way but I eventually got over it. Also, I've been buying Blizzard games lately and I have to admit I do like the look of those nice, thick cardboard boxes sitting on my desk As for the morally gray part, though, fuck that. If I paid for the game but lost access to it through events beyond my control, then you can bet your ass I'm going to pirate the hell out of it if I ever feel like playing it again. Battra92
You know, Eff current gen and next gen! I'm enjoying catching up on all these older games for cheap. I would enjoy them more if Gamestop wasn't tossing out their cases and manuals and I could buy them locally.
CorgiShinobi
In time for the third game (when it arrives Tuesday). Went on a little odyssey with this one to where I eventually ended up home and on Amazon. At least I signed up for Amazon Student, so yay for free two-day shipping! Oh, I am too, but I'd rather just have to download a crack for it. I said it was grey, not wrong. *Edit* - I would actually buy ME1 and 2 on PC again if they would release a pack that comes with the DLC (or at least the ME2 DLC, don't really care about ME1). I just don't want to buy the games for $5 each and then have to spend another $15-20 on DLC. NIce, so if you get ME3 at launch then you'll be able to play coop with me, Cowboy and Strangelove. And I think that would give us a full team! As for the morally gray part, though, fuck that. With a digital copy, then you technically no longer have anything. And yeah, ME1 DLC is pretty skippable. I mean, Bring Down the Sky was okay, I guess. But the other one.. shitty station something, I never even bothered to play it and I got it for free with a 5$ coupon.

Luftwaffles
don't really care about ME1 Blasphemy! ME1 was so much better than 2.
TheMightyEthan
I meant I don't care about ME1's DLC. That DLC wasn't that great. Pinnacle Station specifically was super lame.

I was simply making the distinction that with a physical copy you still own a tangible object and so I feel the issue of morality when it comes to cracking it is basically nonexistent from a purely objective standpoint (though maybe not from a legal one, but who gives a shit). But to pirate the whole thing after losing a digital license feels more morally ambiguous to me, even though I'd totally feel entitled to doing it. TheMightyEthan
lol, I guess I wasn't explaining it very well, because that's what I meant at first: it's morally ambiguous to pirate a replacement, not to crack an owned disc.
Yantelope V2
Bought Witcher 2 finally. It's $15 on amazon.
TheFlyingGerbil
Alice: Madness Returns, and Rayman Origins, both for ps3. They were on offer (new) 2 for £25 and I had a 10% voucher so only £11.25 each. Bargain
TheMightyEthan
Bought Witcher 2 finally. It's $15 on amazon. I still need to play Witcher 1, and THEN Witcher 2 (I've gotten both as gifts during Steam sales). Really really want to play them, I just need to find the time... Yantelope V2
Witcher 1 sat on my drive for about 3 months before I locked in on it and actually got really into it. Great game after you finally get into it. Edited February 19, 2012 by Yantelope V2

Great game after you finally get into it. Yeah, I tend to lose interest in really long RPGs somewhere around halfway to two-thirds of the way through (I left Dragon Age Origins unfinished for almost a year before getting back to it), but Witcher 1 kept its hooks firmly into me from start to finish. Kind of shame that it's not optimized for shit, though. I remember an area of the main city would constantly run at 15 FPS during daytime when all the NPCs were walking around. Only hapened there and I know for a fact my system could more than handle the game. Problem went away at night when everyone was gone... I still need to play W2, though. But I'm waiting for at least 50% off the current price. Hopefully there'll be some kind of deal around the release of the Enhanced Edition. Whiterun usually runs like ass in my Skyrim, but everything else is a solid 60FPS.
deanb
I think I saw a while ago someone pre-ordered Last Story. Maybe excel. Anywho: http://mynintendonews.com/2012/02/20/game-are-switching-the-last-story-collectors-edition-to-the-standard-edition-without-notification/ Worth checking. excel_excel
Phew, I preordered on Amazon so its cool. Don't they have a legal right to tell people when they changed a product like that? Edited February 21, 2012 by excel_excel
TheFlyingGerbil
I guess since no money has changed hands, there's no contract yet so they don't legally have to do anything. It's just morally repugnant.
TheMightyEthan
There might not be an enforceable contract yet, but there is an offer from the customer to buy a specific product at a specific price, which will be accepted by GAME when they take the money and ship the product. But they can't just unilaterally change the offer to a different product and then "accept" it by charging and shipping it: the customer never agreed to that transaction.
