Strangelove
In all honesty, Halo hasn't been this interesting since the first one. I honestly am curious about it.

Strangelove
Well, a lot of people are saying it's taking some uhh..."inspiration" from Metroid Prime. That can't be a bad thing. The Halo 4 trailer at E3 was one of the best ones I saw there.
TheMightyEthan
What finally convinced me to actually get it is that I've been hearing it still feels like Halo.
Strangelove
Hmmm. I actually have the opposite feeling. I like it because it looks a lot more scifi and less US military recruitment tool.
TheMightyEthan
lol, I've never heard anyone say Halo seems like a US military recruitment tool before. I mean CoD, Homefront, MoH, Battlefield, sure, but Halo... Â Anyway, I was meaning I've heard the gameplay feels like Halo, not necessarily the setting. Strangelove
Yeah, Im stretching it. Compared to stuff like Metroid Prime or Half Life I mean. Stuff like Halo or Killzone are just military shooters in space. While a different kind of military, they seem to operate the same way. Ive got nothing against it, but stuff like Halo or God of War or whatever other games from last gen that made the transition over to this gen, they all need a huge change of scenery at least. New places, enemies, weapons without being vague repetitions or clones of previous things. While keeping the same gameplay of course. Kind of how like Mario can somehow run around Galaxies nowadays. You get the same feeling and youre doing the same shit, but it's entirely new. Â Kratos needs to stop killing Greek Gods and move along to other Gods. Id love that. toxicitizen
Â 20 bucks for the bundle on Amazon digital games. All redeemable on Steam. Had to jump through some hoops to get around their regional restriction, though. Seems they don't like dirty canadian money. Â Mainly got it for Spec Ops. Been really wanting to play it the past couple of weeks, what with all the great things I keep hearing about the story. I guess having a copy of Bioshock 2 is nice, too. I would've probably never bought it on its own. Edited August 28, 2012 by FLD

Holy shit, can you imagine Kratos sailing across the Atlantic and then killing all the Aztec gods? How badass would that be?  And now I see your point about Halo a little better, and I agree. I'm glad that your main enemies in this one won't be the Covenant, and hopefully the Flood won't be anywhere in sight.

Pretty sure David Jaffe once said his original plan was for Kratos to move on to the Northern pantheon (as in Vikings) after he was done with the Greek one. Seems a bit weird but it could've been great.  Spec Ops is fantastic. Not perfect all the way through, but one of the best FPS campaigns I've played in a long time.  So I keep hearing. About an hour left to the download. Hot Heart
I thought Spec Ops was a TPS. /pedant  In other news, I pre-ordered Borderlands 2. And at £25. I do like PC game prices.

I figure it'd be tough with time zones and stuff, but I'm sure Duke and I will be playing some coop when it comes out.
toxicitizen
Â A collection of Edmund McMillen's (Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac) older games. Includes the original version of Meat Boy, which I remember playing as a flash game years ago. Curious to see how it holds up compared to the Super version. TheFlyingGerbil
Finally got Professor Layton 4. I really wanted the US version for the London Life RPG which isn't in the EU version, as from the little info written about it on the net it seems to be really worth having. I managed to find a British stockist of it, which I think is reliable, but I'll have my fingers and toes crossed until it arrives. Also interested to see if the US Luke's voice is as bad as people say because he's annoying enough on the EU one.
excel_excel
Here's a good comparison of the two Luke voices. Its the opening scene of Pandora's Box.  The US voice is......yeah. I'd say you would get used to it though and at least emotion is still being conveyed.   Bought this, traded in New Super Mario Bros Wii and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and got €35 off, so got it for €15 after that. So far I'm not exactly happy with it, but I'll persist with it. Bowser's Inside Story would want me to. Don't normally trade in games but I'd finished both and they aren't rare or anything.
FMW
I bought NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for $3. It's an interesting game. I think that the gameplay and music and art are all wonderful. The narrative does it's absolute best to ruin everything with long, excruciatingly bad and entirely unskippable cutscenes but if you can do something else while those are running (I used Advance Wars) and let the game speak for itself then it's quite the experience. It actually does capture a dreamy aesthetic which is pretty rare in video games. It's just about the right amount of hard, but the checkpoints are very few and far inbetween. Failure at any point usually means you need to redo the whole mission. Â But terrible narrative and inconsiderate checkpoints are worth putting up with to play the game. It's really not like anything else I've played. Â And for $3!
toxicitizen
Â It doesn't have any kind of elaborate career mode but I'm enjoying it a lot. Also, it works with the hundreds of songs I already own. Â It's nice to have an alternative for when I want to play but don't feel like bothering with plastic instruments. Cyber Rat
Â Bought this when it was on sale. Played through it during the weekend. Good stuff, just shame it renders your choices meaningless on a mechanical level (and to some extent on a narrative level).

I didn't really "get" the gameplay, the controls were wonky, and the production values were pretty bad. Â Well once I figured out that the game isn't actually 3D, and is just a series of 2D rail lines through 3D environments, things clicked a lot better for me. It's just a 2D platformer, but without that constant struggle against gravity that defines the genre. Â What controller did you use? I played the whole game through with the Gamecube controller, and had zero issues with them. Wouldn't want to do the point and click interface at all, analog sticks are surely the way to go with this game.
