Guilty Pleasures

Movies, music, television, games.

List it all here!

For me? I'd have to say I absolutely love the A-Team movie that was recently released and I don't care if it was completely over the top and dumb.

Then there's a movie that I've loved since I saw it way back when.

Rush Hour.

SHUT UP!

Also, pretty much any kind of martial arts movie despite how bad the acting can be.

The perfect clip to describe what I love would have to be from when Steven Seagal kills New Jersey in a bar fight from "Out For Justice."

I guess a lot of it's subjective, but this is all for fun anyway so...

Music-wise, probably MxPx, Paramore's second album and KT Tunstall.

Films. Probably old (Cantonese) Jet Li stuff. Story and acting is usually criminal, but the fightwork by Yuen Woo-ping is phenomenal. Twin Warriors is a must-see

I guess The Warriors counts as well, since it's a cult film.

Television. Chuck and CSIs Miami and Vegas.

Games. Prototype? I know a lot of people disliked it.

I don't really have guilty pleasures. I don't feel guilty about anything I like. Don't get me wrong, I understand what I SHOULD be embarrassed by, but Im not. For example, I LOVE "Kiss Me" By Sixpence None The Richer. It's my understanding that people who like that song are embarrassed to like it. I can see why, it's very girly and it's a definite one hit wonder with no real kind of profound meaning. But so what? It sounds good to me. My earholes are pleased when I hear it.

Also - finger in the ass during sex. Im not gay, but if it feels good, why should I or anyone else be embarrassed? It is what it is. The heart wants what it wants, man. A finger in the ass.

But what about things we are embarrassed to hear, but we still like hearing them because we like to make fun of it? I Like Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness," just so I can mock the beginning of it. So I DO like to listen to it, but it's only to make fun of how bad a song it is. Does that count? I get pleasure, but not really because I like it on it's own merits. I created a reason to like it on my own really. But I would have never arrived at that conclusion if the song hadnt been sung or written that way first. Chicken or the egg scenario really.

I have a ringtone loop of just the beginning, by the way.

It's "Ooh wah ahh ahh ah!" repeatedly when my mom calls me. It's awesome.

If guilty pleasures include "so-bad-it's-good" movies that you watch ironically, my list would be a mile long, but for the moment, I'll just stick with guilty pleasures.

Enter The Matrix. The latter two Matrix films. Call Me Maybe. Airheads. Muse. Sickeningly violent movies (I love them and think many of them like Antichrist and I Saw The Devil are amazing films, but I'm a little hesitant to admit that to a lot of people). Visiting various Gawker sites when I'm really deprived of news from other sources. Various girly pop songs. Dubstep. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the film). How I Met Your Mother (the earlier stuff, even I can't stand the newer seasons).

"Guilty Pleasures. Stuff you enjoy and you don't care what others think!" Technically speaking, if you don't care what others think, then you won't feel guilty. Ergo, they are just Pleasures.

I have different circles of friends and I don't talk to some of them about some of the things I enjoy as I know they will disapprove. For example, my housemate is in a thrash metal band. As such, La Roux is a guilty pleasure when I am around him and his band mates. As is most of the sci-fi, geeky stuff that I like. Among some of my other friends, my enjoyment of Studio Ghibli movies is something of a guilty pleasure, though in a different circle, it's not in the least bit guilty.

We'll just put you down for 'pedantry', I think. :P

I didn't even know they were in a Twilight film; I just know that people go on rants for how much they hate Muse.

Sticking to stereotype. I think that pedantry bit was aimed at me. I happen to be a huge Muse fan. Don't see how anyone can consider that a guilty pleasure though. The Twilight thing is a bit repellent, but apparently they inspired the Meyer woman (from the Muse wiki: "-- And, finally, thank you to the talented musicians who inspire me, particularly the band Muse - there are emotions, scenes, and plot threads in this novel that were born from Muse songs and would not exist without their genius. --" The Meyer Woman) and, Muse's bassist did basically say that they sold their souls to get some exposure in America. So it wasn't anything personal, it was just business. You ask any professional musician if they would be ok with their song appearing on the soundtrack to a guaranteed blockbuster film and I reckon they'd say "Sure!".

Otherwise, they are (in my experience) widely regarded as technically talented musicians, who tend to experiment with a lot of different sounds with varying success, and are one of (if not the) best live acts in the world ever.

Oh yeah, I saw them open for U2 and thought they were awesome there; if the sound in the stadium wasn't fucking shot, it would have been even more memorable.

Exactly.

Though I do wish they'd strip away some of the 'layers' as of late. :P

Muse is great, don't care if they were on Twilight.

Guilty pleasures on television: Supernatural, seasons 1-4 of One Tree Hill, Roswell, Last Man Standing.

For music, that Gotye song, Hanson, Lady Gaga, the occasional pop radio hit.

For movies... can't think of any I'm really "ashamed" of even on a superficial level. Sucker Punch got panned, and I love it, but the critics were wrong... so they should be ashamed.
