Great Ideas that will probably never happen

Hey, you know that feeling when you have a really great idea for where Capcom should take the MegaMan franchise, or the best crossover idea ever, or realize the one video game that makes sense for a musical theater adaptation? I have the feeling that I just came up with a great idea for a product all the time, so I imagine that other people have that feeling too. So this is where you post your ideas, give us a rough sketch of how they would look, and we talk about them.

I'll go first just to give a general idea of what I'm imagining:

Katamari Damacy: The Musical

You know how cats is basically just a collection of disconnected songs and the "plot" shows up two or three times through the whole show? Do that, except with Katamari Damacy. Every thing rolled into the Katamari has it's own song to sing, and the giant ball of stuff acts as a chorus (so the chorus grows as the show continues). Just have the King of all Cosmos show up at the beginning and end to bookend the experience and give some context to the thing and you're golden!

Particular requests for songs are the mailbox song (he's a grump), the skyscraper song (is shaped like a giant penis and he knows it), and the tumbleweed song (the first song in the show, she's free spirited and happy so is NOT thrilled to be stuck in the Katamari).

Every object pulled up into the Katamari has it's own very different worldview and they don't all like each other and they don't always fit snugly into the ball (it's a pretty haphazard wreck of a ball after all) and each object maintains his/her own personality after getting sucked up into the chorus.

At the end of the show, when the entire world has been rolled up, you tie it all up nicely with a theme about how the Katamari world is just like the real world: we're all different and we don't get along and we don't always fit snugly but we're all stuck in this ball together anyway, so we might was well make the best of it.

An open-world cat burglar game. Each house is unique, ranging in security from simply wedging the door open with a credit card to full-on James Bond shit. There are reactions to your thefts which cause security clamp downs throughout the town or city. Numerous ways to break in, grab the loot, and escape. Partners, bribes, equipment, all that taken into consideration.

The one thing holding it back? The budget is too fucking huge to try anything like that.

Fully Three Dimensional Wii-U Pokemon title with character customization.

You can already see it in your head and I can see you salivating over the thought you sexual predator you. It would be awesome.

Why it won't happen: Because Nintendo is a comfort zone piece of shit and won't ever explore outside of gimmicks or ruining franchises [see Other M].

Harry Potter RPG

Similar to the Pokemon idea. You make your student and attend Hogwarts with the occasional adventure. You're able to go to all the movie locations and even game-created locations. We've all wanted this for a while now. Imagine going to Ollivander's, or going to have a butter beer. Hell even actually trying out for a Quidditch team.

Why it won't happen: Because EA has the license and they're about as creative as my left testicle. Who, to its defense, can do an absolutely breathtaking rendition of Requiem For A Dream's main title song. When it's not producing enough sperm to make me hornier than a Schnauzer at an old folk's home.

That sounds cool! You take the open ended stealth gameplay of Thief and combine it with the tracking/trapping gameplay from Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Every cat will have it's own mannerisms and patterns that the player will need to learn and manipulate to try and actually capture the cat. Cats are a very good subject for this too - they're fast and stealthy and can jump really impressive gaps. A game about cat burglery would be awesome!

If the player managed to put together a perfect stealth run, the reward would be nabbing the cat without it ever waking up. That seems like a good reward for skillful play built right into the premise of the game.

You just improved my idea by x1000

Going off of Frosted's idea, I think I would make a Katamari sports game. I'd probably do an NFL crossover of sorts and call it: Olindo Katamari. I suppose that probably wouldn't work though since, by the time the ball made it to the uprights, it would be too big to fit through. T_T

An open world RPG!! But based in a modern metropolis, where you create your own character, and you get super powers, and you customize your characters superhero suit/look with a choice to be a villain or a hero. At the start of the game you make your initial decision to go with the bad guys or the good guys, but as the game progresses you get more morally confusing decisions that allow you to become an anti-hero/anti-villain.

Of course the heroes/villains you fight with/against will be original but bear resemblances to actual comic book heroes (like Statesman) and a morally questionable governmental facility (like SHIELD). The combat is an action game. As you progress through the game people on the streets start to know who you are and either love/hate you. You create a persona both as an individual hero and as part of the team.

Kinda like Subversion. And budget I think was an issue with them but they've had no budget to use for years. An AAA studio would be fine to make Subversion but would probably avoid the procedural stuff Introversion were going with, meaning that yeah the budget would hugely skyrocket.

@madbass: Isn't that just SP City of Heroes?

I keep wishing From Software would make an Armored Core game that put some actual emphasis on the pilot instead of just the mech customization. Let me make a damn pilot avatar! Then let me do shit outside the mech! Go around the city and talk to other pilots and form some partnerships! Hell, let me do some work for part dealers to get sweet discounts!

And the obligatory level where someone swipes my AC and I gotta sneak about to get it back*!

*Just don't make that like Dark Souls is any capacity because I would like to actually enjoy playing.

Man, wouldn't that be super cathartic though? You play through the super difficult brutal level as your pilot in full-on Dark Souls punishing difficulty, but when you succeed your reward is to jump into your big ass mech suit and then you can just stop the shit out of all those puny things that were giving you so much trouble before.

I was going to suggest the idea of a real Arkham City game. Where the city is as huge as a GTA game, but as detailed as Arkham City. I want it to be big enough where it actually warrants using the batmobile, batcycle, or batplane.

But Im sure eventually a game like that will be made.

Now that I think about it, I dont think theres ever been an open world game where you actually use a "weird" customized vehicle. Its always realistic cars, motorcycles, or helicopters. There arent any games where you drive a car that can drive up walls or shoot you out of the top before you crash. Something crazy like that...or like the first 2 Batman films basically. Maybe even a helicopter umbrella.

I think the closest to what you're thinking of is the original Crackdown. In that game as your driving leveled up whatever car you stepped into would just transform into increasingly awesome cars to suit you. The cars didn't get too out there, but it was better than just jacking whatever minivan happened by like you do in most open world games.

Jak 2 and 3 were open world games that let you tool around on various sorts of speeder and dune buggy that were sort of out there, but they weren't customizable like you said you wanted.

Hell yeah...hopefully they do make an even more open-world batman game...Love the Batmobile(and other vehicles).

I'm one of those guys who didn't actually enjoy Dark Souls and found it to be artificially difficult instead of genuinely difficult.

Besides, AC is already a decent difficult game!
