Eleven
Ok. So here comes the Squeenix ports http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/31/final-fantasy-3-joining-ouya-launch-lineup/ Now one of the games in that survey is a reality.
deanb
Given the similar origins I'd expect GTAIII to come merrily skipping along soon. Both have android ports, both had controller support in past lives(in fact I think it's still built in)
excel_excel
A shame Final Fantasy III is a bit rubbish. Such a basic feeling game and story. I guess its a risk free launch title. If the Ouya fails in anyway, all they've done is port III to it. No biggie.
VicariousShaner
I'd like to point out one of the things mentioned as being ridiculous in Maritan's video a page back was Final Fantasy. If anything, this just kind of proves the point that we shouldn't be too judgmental of the product until it comes out.

Faiblesse Des Sens
^Well, it's nice to know that it will work as a HTPC, quite possibly on launch, even if it has no games.
deanb
http://www.ouya.tv/game-developers-how-to-get-started-on-ouya-now/ They've a post up that gives a fair bit of info on making games for it, mainly in the "what specs to aim your game for". Also stated it's gonna be Jelly Bean too (Jelly Bean came out like right before or right after their KickStarter so it was at the time listed as ICS). Probably one of the biggest tweaks to their game devs will need to take into account is that there's no back or menu buttons, which could prove to be an issue. Mainly at the moment saying to test run it on a Tegra 3 tablet should give you a good idea of where your game will be at with running speeds n such on the Ouya. Eleven
Couldn't that be remedied by using the "PS" button to bring up a menu? EDIT: I'm assuming this is the Android buttons at the bottom which have no real effect on the game running, unless that is a thing on Android, being open and all. deanb
There will be a single system button on the controller that will bring up an OUYA-standard pause menu, and allow you to send a gamer to your own settings menu. Yeah it's using the "PS menu". The main issue though is that menu and back are two default buttons of android phones and tablets, which means most games are built on the assumption they're there. So when you want to open a menu in the game, there's a menu button. When you want to back out of a screen/menu etc, there's a back button. Means they'll need to make a few extra tweaks to their games that mightn't have needed to be done if it had a back n menu button on the controller, or used the triangle n circle as such. deanb
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console/posts/359619 The DevKits are to be heading out at the end of them month. Everything going on track at the moment.
deanb
http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/ouya-developers-share-enthusiasm-reasons-for-support-and-lack-of-piracy-fea Dev kits are now in the hands of devs and PAR have hit up some of the devs. Looks pretty positive outlook for the devs; SDK uses Unity, porting to Ouya controller even simpler than to Steams Big Picture, and the hardware is standard fair so can get good results before optimization. The only big question left at the moment is the dev back-end for the service, submitting games and getting in payment (though the Airmech guys have stated they're using their own system anyway). Waldorf and Statler
I'm hearing good news about the Ouya but will definitely wait and see if it catches on with the mainstream crowd because that'll be a big determinant as to whether more developers start making games for it. Faiblesse Des Sens
Fuck the games it's still going to be an awesome Android device at $100.
Waldorf and Statler
I guess it will. But I don't think I've ever seen the android OS and gone "man I wish I could have this outside of a sleek sexy phone". That's me personally though. Faiblesse Des Sens
It's a matter of price point. $100 for a device that will let me watch Netflix and stream music and movies? Then throw in some games on top of that? Fuck yeah.
Waldorf and Statler
Huh. Never considered the streaming capabilities. If android has/gets HBO Go that could be my selling point. I mean unless the PS4 gets it as well.
Faiblesse Des Sens
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.HBO&hl=en Also, you shouldn't be comparing to the PS4.
Waldorf and Statler
I was only stating it because my 360 has HBO Go and there's I watch it for the most part. Seeing how the possibilities of me getting the nextbox are smaller I'll need to find another machine with HBO Go.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It shouldn't be compared to the 360 either. It's going to be supplementing my PS3 and gaming PC by providing what is basically a gimped HTPC for cheap. Hell, might not even be gimped if someone gets Ubuntu running on it. deanb
http://www.ouya.tv/its-all-about-control/ Some updates to the controller. I'm thinking given they've gone with rubberising instead of inverting the thumbsticks MS might have a very strong patent on that idea cos general agreement is the dips are good but you never really see it anywhere else. TheMightyEthan
Another thing 360 controllers have are the little studs. Never see them anywhere else, but I'd be surprised if having studs is locked down by MS.

Also something from Words with Friends creator but that isn't named/announced. Also it's to hit Amazon, Best Buy, Target and I swear I read Gamestop elsewhere but maybe not: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/02/05/ouya-finds-a-friend-with-amazon/ edit: http://www.amazon.com/OUYA-Console-Coming-June-2013/dp/B0050SZD18/
madbassman39
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/expect-new-ouya-console-every-year/ They plan to follow the phone structure, update and release a new model each year. I don't think I like that idea, but it kind of makes sense to keep up with the android/iphone games that are released to play on the newest phones. Although it does make it less appealing to me. deanb
Yeah some people seem a rather vehemently opposed to this idea despite the fact that it's how Tegra and many phones are produced. Android itself is a on a current annual tick-tock release schedule. It's not a Nintendo/MS/Sony console so it doesn't need to arbitrarily tie itself to such long-term and obsolescence inducing release schedules. So you get the mobile/PC advantage of being able to make use of latest tech while still supporting the current install base. Just seems some sensible people who I know don't do it with PC components feeling they'd need to buy every single new Ouya that comes out each year.
