Faiblesse Des Sens
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/expect-new-ouya-console-every-year/ They plan to follow the phone structure, update and release a new model each year. I don't think I like that idea, but it kind of makes sense to keep up with the android/iphone games that are released to play on the newest phones. Although it does make it less appealing to me. The Tegra 3 is already underpowered so I fully expect a Tegra 4 version within a year of release.
TheMightyEthan
They did kind of address that by saying that because they're not actually a mobile device they're not constrained by phones' considerations of battery life and can use the Tegra 3 to it's full potential in a way that phones don't. I don't know how true that is, but it's what they said.
deanb
They can tweak Android to change how it handles multi-tasking. And due to mains supply power they don't need to underclock it, could even overclock it.

deanb
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/03/ouya-to-bolster-launch-games-with-nes-snes-n64-emulation/ It'll be releasing with NES, SNES, and N64 emulators available from Ouya store. (All others you can still sideload). Quite a bold stance they'll be taking to make it an official feature.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It's not an official feature they're just allowing them in the store like Google does. Unless the forum administrator is suddenly allowed to make official announcements.
deanb
It needs official blessing to be allowed on the store, it's curated like Apple's App Store, not free-for-all like Google Play.

Google is definitely aware of emulators on their store though. They've banned some and kept others.

deanb
GAME are selling Ouya for £99, aka $150. http://www.game.co.uk/en/ouya-console-215307 Now that it's going out to backers brief reviews are cropping up http://www.techradar.com/reviews/gaming/games-consoles/ouya-review-1141503/review Bit of a bummer about the controller using AA batteries. The Featured Channels sounds neat, it's not just popular stuff but things specifically curated for certain elements (retroness, good sound, game celebs picks etc) should keep it mixed up compared to the algorithmically sorted list you find out Play. It seems a PIN system could do with being sorted out, but it's something built into Android so once they decide to use a PIN system it'll be easy enough to implement. It launches in June proper if you're not a backer.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Controllers are expensive at $50? Are they unaware of how much 360 and PS3 controllers cost? Kind of funny that they think parents care about ratings.
deanb
PS3 and 360 controllers are also expensive.

Eleven
Relative to the console's price though... that's half the price of the console. If you bought the Ouya for $99 because it's cheap and plays games, having to buy a $50 controller would really suck.
deanb
Sure, but something tells me it won't be needed except for replacement of a broken controller anyhow. Also it's Android, which supports bluetooth input, such as Sixaxis, and USB input, such as a 360 controller should those random splitscreen mobile games arise. Can you use a 360 controller with Android? You can use a PS3 controller but even then you need USB OTG support, right? Never looked into that in-depth. deanb
360 pads have been part of the specification since Honeycomb. As you said, just need a USB OTG cable (or a device, like the Ouya, with a regular USB port).
deanb
http://www.androidcentral.com/nvidia-grid-shows-you-can-play-borderlands-2-ouya So Nvidia have got their Grid (thing powering Project Shield) running on Ouya. Technically making it a steambox. Also funny that Nvidia got Ouya on the show floor but Ouya themselves couldnt
deanb
Seems pretty smooth to me to be honest, considering people had been complaining of lag. Wonder if that's considered laggy what folks must think of current console menus. Shame on the HDCP stuff I guess. Be cool to play GTAIII on your tele instead of phone though. deanb
http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/get-on-top-ouya-port A post on PAR from a dev about his experience in porting a game to Ouya. Obviously not a universal example given it was a relatively simple game, and built on AIR/Flash as well. Kinda shocked at quite the turnaround Kuchera has had on Ouya from when he first started posting about it.
