Metal Gear Solid

Thats tough. All the characters in GZ are straight from Peace Walker. Its a direct sequel.

I felt like that didnt matter too much though. I personally didnt care about them. The story works in spite of those characters. Id just have them read up a PW summary and then go from there.

I assume The Phantom Pain will be a whole other thing though. I expect it to reference all the other games quite a bit.

Peace Walker is what Kojima considered Metal Gear Solid V in spirit. I hate handheld sequels but at least PW is on the PS3 so I will be eventually getting to that. Besides, I want to replay MGS3. I just need a price drop at some point for me to bite. Regarding the tapes, they do help shed light and contrast the past with what happens in Ground Zeroes. Like wow, no wonder Kaz Miller acted like that. So yeah, playing PW isn't needed but might help connect you with some of the characters more.

Going back to the red band trailer, I think it is kind of safe to say that Volgin might be back. The outline of that one firey shadow looks way too much like Volgin. Either way, the Phantom Pain will be great. Sadly, I don't think I can manage a PS4 by the time it comes out... which I assume is sometime around this time of year of next year. At the very least, fall of next year which would work out better for me actually...

Hard mode with Reflex mode off is pretty sweet. Very limit margin for errors. Not even a small 1 second pause to give you even a slight chance for taking cover. The guards may still be retarded but at least they can see so much better.

Edit: Their range is bumped up considerably to what normal people should have...

Can I just say I've got a hunch that The Phantom Pain is going to be the best Metal Gear game ever made and one of the best games ever made. I've just got that feeling. I think it's going to be an incredible gem.

Also that cardboard box video how the heck did I miss that. Popping out is ingenious.

Well, Ground Zeroes is the first game that has heavily changed it's gameplay since MGS2. MGS2 was innovative besides just story and weird fourth wall breaking stuff. It changed third person shooters at the time. It did a lot of new stuff. Ever since then, MGS has stayed basically the same. MGS3, 4 and PW are just modified versions of MGS2 gameplay.
GZ is a whole different thing. It's the next step. It finally feels fresh again.

Totally. It felt totally fresh- but it was still just a taster. There were moments in the GZ Main Mission where I forgot I was in a pretty tiny map and it was incredible. The closest to an interactive spy movie I've ever experienced. And I reckon TPP is going to take that sensation and just... Ramp it. Ramp it up a billion times. I think it'll be a gamechanger.

Is it a delayed release or side-by-side (for PP)? Either way, I'm holding off on a PS4 unless Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 can persuade me otherwise.

While I don't think it will be a bad port but if they release Ground Zeroes early/soon then they can at least get some feedback for any hiccups.

Probably won't be able to run it without a complete upgrade but great news nonetheless!

I most likely can but it won't look good. If the port justifies it, I will easily drop down some good money for an new build (Mobo-CPU-RAM will need to be replaced all together. I think I can get away with just a GPU aka PS4 money though).

From the wording on the Konami stream, it sounds like Ground Zeroes is coming "soon" and Phantom Pain later. They still haven't announced a release date anyway so I guess it's possible it might be day and date with consoles.

Also, I think Fox Engine was built with multiplatform development in mind. So I would hope that means a solid PC version.

Do you want to see the Gamescon demo at 1080p at 60 fps? Of course you do, you filthy Kojima slave. You'll eat that 4.7 GB download just to see The Phantom Pain at max settings.

Now where is my TGS update?

Son of a bitch, the taste with Ground Zeroes is getting to me.

Inspired isn't it.

EDIT:

Holy balls balls balls

Snake climbs up a wall, rock climbing Assassin's Creed style. Can we do this on any surface?!

You can have buddies who are in the game world. Rainbow Six style you can command them to wait, strike targets (people or objects eg explosives) on your command, or scout ahead (they will tag enemies along the way).

There are many versions of Snake's prosthetic arm, which can all do different things. The only one we know of is one which can electrocute people, stunning them.

Whoooo mama.
