2012 Summer Olympics

I absolutely LOVE watching the Olympics. I'm not one of those guys who knows people going in and stuff like that, but I make it a priority to watch as much as I can. Shotputting. Shooting. Swimming. Fencing. Wrestling. Boxing. Rowing. I love it ALL.

I've watched the Olympics since as long as I can remember. The (one and only) Dream Team in 1992, the gymnastics teams of 1996, the hockey teams of 2010, and the swimming team of 2008, Rulon Gardner taking down The Russian Bear in 2000 at Sydney. Derek Redmond running through his knee injury in 1992 to finish his race.

I love it all. Though my favorite Olympic moment of all time might have to be when Muhammad Ali took that last flame from Janet Evans in 1996 to light the torch.

One of my favorite moments in sports history.

I cannot wait for Wednesday.

I'll be in London on Friday being a stinking tourist for a few days. As a result, I probably won't be seeing much of it on TV (which I'm sad about), but it should be really interesting being there with all the other people visiting.

I haven't been alive quite long enough for some of the great Olympic moments, I think, but I'm really looking forward to the basketball in particular this year. 2008 was a lot of fun to watch, and I think it'll be interesting to see if the gamble of going for a bunch of shorter players rather than height will pay off.

Ive been watching all of the trials that I can. Mostly swimming and diving have been televised. Others, yes, but the lot of coverage I got to see was swimming. I'm going to have a blast watching as I do every four years.

My favorite moment was Kerri Strug or Shrug, still confused about her last name, though I have read it many times. Her landing that vault with the severely jacked up ankle to take home the gold was emotional.

Oh dear, that's looking a bit naf.

In other news one of the Greek Olympians got kicked out due to being a bit racist, cos of course that's what you want to do right before a major international event.

Come on, it's not 1936 anymore :P

I don't think anyone cares about Olympic Soccer to begin with, and that's including the Male game. Certainly not British fans. Although i may be proved wrong if GB goes far.

I'd love to be more excited for the 2012 Olympics, but I just can't get into summer sports... especially after the epicness that was the 2010 games. I want more hockey, snowboarding, and skiing, please!

On that note, Saku Koivu of the Ducks was one of the Torch-bearers a few days back. No one knew who he was, but i thought it was a nice little moment for him.

I'm to understand it was highest turn out to womens football match in the UK. Also it's not hosted in London I think, which will attribute to low turnout to a fair few events. That'd be how the event ran before the opening ceremony, Olympics hasn't fully started yet(Also means people are still arriving)

I have to say I was impressed by the ceremony myself. From the sounds of it, I thought it was going to be terrible but they delivered. It made for quite a change from the usual opening ceremony too.

What's everyone going to be watching in the Olympics? One of the lads I used to box with is fighting for Ireland today so I'll be tuning in to watch it. Beyond that, I haven't a clue what to check out.

I really liked the first segment a lot, starting out with the agriculture and then changing to factories and stuff, but kinda thought it was downhill after that.

Agreed. I was really impressed by the first segment so that's likely why I considered it so good overall.

Watched the first fights for the two Irish lads earlier, good to see both of them winning. I think Paulstown Boxing Club's style of boxing really showed through with O'Neill - raw power and stamina. Back when I was training there, it was all exercise with only the last few minutes of training being devoted to sparring and improving technique. John Joe Nevin's fight was great. He might have a chance at the Bantamweight World Title if he keeps it up. He showed great skill out there.
