madbassman39
WvW does scale you to Level 80, although none of your skills are unlocked, and your armor and weapons only level up proportionately. A level 80 sword is going to beat the shit out of my level 1 mace/focus combo. My guild seems to be happy having a tanking class, and they told me to play the game the way I want to play and not worry about what everybody else says. If that I can play with people who are in it to have fun and not be too serious in the game I may actually be OK. I haven't been this hooked in an MMO in ever. My lvl 71 warrior is my highest level character I've ever had in any MMO, and this is the most consistent I've ever played an MMO. CoH may have the most overall time, but never this consistent. This is my absolute favorite MMO, but man does it feel empty in a lot of zones still, and maybe this happens in all MMOs after a year of release, the higher level zones, but not max level zones are nearly empty. GW2 though rewards you and makes it fun to go back and play low level zones.
Saturnine Tenshi
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, without traits, skills and proper armor it's going to be more difficult for you, but it's not impossible. It might have been without level scaling. Hope it works out. I haven't done much WvW yet. A few hours here and there. Chiefly because there's so much to do that after 350 hours I'm still working on PvE. It's good that you found folk who aren't pushing a full DPS build on you. It's not everywhere, but it's common in PvE. A bit more lenient in sPvP and WvW. Also, if you don't know already, www.gw2lfg.com is the best place to find a dungeon group if you're having trouble finding one. I use it regularly. And I feel about the same when it comes to GW2. Aion was great, and I spent a great deal of time on it (max'd two characters), but I hadn't really been happy with an MMORPG since the earlier days of WoW. While GW2 is by no means perfect, it takes several noteworthy steps forward as far as MMORPGs are concerned. Level-scaling turned out to hugely beneficial. The way quests and events are basically "jump in and participate" makes the game go swimmingly. And exploration is not only enjoyable, but rewarding in terms of the many secrets out there, jumping puzzles, and actual rewards like experience, karma, items and achievements. The lack of a real grind for substantial gear is also nice. And the ease of playing with folks from other servers. As far as activity is concerned It could just be the population of your server. I do find that some areas are livelier than others, but there are generally some folk out questing when I am. I still do questing at 80 for the sake of exploration. Not to mention alts. madbassman39
Problem I am finding is that I am on Dragonbrand, which is in the top 6 servers on WvW, so I think that the major portion of our population is all on WvW. I'm going to guest on your server and see how things are going.
Baconrath
Is ArenaNet still doing their questionable focus on eSports thing?
Saturnine Tenshi
They advertise eSports events on social platforms if that's what you're asking.
deanb
My family. I've been playing a fair bit of late, I had started a new character when I bought it the other month. A Charr ranger, got to about 20 when I decided I just wasn't really much enjoying that character or the story line for him. So hoped back to the dude I made in the trial. Got a birthday pack for him . I'm now level 20 something, getting involved with the Vigil, Whispers and other dudes looking into Elder Dragons (Which I'm to understand "the big bad".) Already at this point I've been and done some bare bones CSI, a bunch of math questions to stabalise some stargates (yes I know they're Asura Gates but they all know what they really are) and fought my future world dictator self. So yeah much more fun than "your dad left you a chest in his will, but you've got to go find it". I will say though the Charr areas scaled up quite well between areas alongside the storyline, but my Asura dude has had a few moments where it's dragged out during levels, and a fair chunk of his attackes are AoE based (or require conditions which I really need to look into more), so while I'm great with the on-the-fly events I'm not super great in general PvE. Gotta say I love the travel system, I like the Events stuff, the experience for exploring and seeing all the nooks and crannies, the various weapons changing your skillset, and so on. Is a bit of a "you don't really explain this" stuff occasionally though, especially that Four Winds stuff which I'm not sure what I am/was meant to be doing for that. madbassman39
I actually had the urge to reload it up yesterday and start a new character. I had a Charr Warrior and a Norn Guardian. I made a human ranger and started to work on his story. Last night it seemed the area I was in was pretty populated, but Queensdale never had an issue with population, how has population been on your end? I know they kind of made some kind of mega server for each shard so that populations on the 20-50 zones has more than three people wandering around outside of the major events. deanb
I'm on EU Fissure of Woe. Not sure I can pop on NA server or make a character that's specifically for use on an NA server. I could maybe try it though. edit: Nope I'd need to do a transfer of everything.
madbassman39
So I've been playing for the last two weeks, feeling pretty good about it. I wanted to start a new character and try out roleplaying because I've never done it before. I still have no idea how to do it and I just ended up mostly playing the game solo while not sure how to find a player who is RP-ing (I guested on Tarnished Coast US which is the unofficial RP server). Ultimately I felt out of place. Its still something I wouldn't mind doing but I am not sure as to how to go about it. On a side note, I think it would be fun if we could dedicate one night a week to get some PXOD players together and just run around playing the game together. If anyone is interested in doing so let me know!
Saturnine Tenshi
I'm on daily if anyone wants to add me. Just let me know who you are. Merill al Ghuraab.1209 is my account name. deanb
I'm deanbmmv.2437. No idea how to add people though, or even if you can cross-server.
madbassman39
My user name is madbassman.7542 I think you can just add a friend no matter what server they're on. You can also "guest" in other servers which I don't think matters what geographical location they are in relative to you. To add, you just press "Y" and it will bring up your friends list, and from there you can search people.
deanb
I've added both of you. I think.
Saturnine Tenshi
Already had bassman on my list. Added you, Dean.
Little Pirate
I just started playing again, recently, too. I don't know what the heck to do with my level 80 elementalist, I managed to get there by questing moreso than dungeoning. Saturnine Tenshi
Lots of information regarding the September 9th feature patch: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/feature-packs/
madbassman39
I don't like the new weapon skills are just automatically unlocked... I mean you really are only unlocking 4 slots in the game now, and every time you got a new weapon it would give you something to do for a small amount of time. Every thing else looks great though
Saturnine Tenshi
Yeah, I never really had trouble with that. Once you're level 20 or so it only takes a few kills. I'm happy with the rest of the updates, anyway. Many quality of life fixes there. I'm looking forward to the class changes. With my mains being a longbow ranger and mace warrior, I'm getting some love.
Saturnine Tenshi
Huge feature patch released yesterday with multifarious improvements (or the opposite in some cases). You can read the full notes here. What did I do immediately? Get the Honored Skritt title (Trash Collector achievement). Why? I happen to keep all the trash items that people generally sell to vendors on me, and in large amounts. So when I logged in I was immediately at 38/51 for the achievement. Woo! I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the first person without early access to the game to get the title. Rangers also got a huge buff. Huge. madbassman39
I haven't played much, but I did start a new character to try to get a feel for the changes. I will say that its all a pretty positive experience as a new player. I like the way it coaches you to your first and second heart and from there it lets you take the reigns. Still don't like the weapon skill changes (especially being locked to levels now) but its not the worst change that has happened to any game. Saturnine Tenshi
Woo: my staying up late last night helped us to win the first (and likely most trying) week of the Fall World vs. World tournament. My guild leader was commanding for about 24 hours straight. This is how Gate of Madness wins matches. It ain't how we're supposed to, but we have some damn dedicated players. It played a huge part in how we managed the longest (still) win streak in GW2 history—even against servers that would have rolled us otherwise. If you check the graph for the week, it's pretty clear how we tend to clutch things with all-nighters the last night before scores are tallied. I'm proud of my server and guild. TheMightyEthan
So how do our local players feel about GemGate? Personally I think it just shows the massive conspiracy between game developers and journalists. We need more ethics!
Mister Jack
I hate only having the ability to purchase digital currency in bulk like those bullshit Microsoft points back in the day, but I guess since they've promised to add a custom button it isn't so bad.
Saturnine Tenshi
Like Jack said: it's bullshit. It's even more clearly bullshit because they said they did it for the benefit of new players. I'm never quick to hope on the developer hate train, but they've made some questionable decisions of late.
