TheRevanchist
On iTunes: Lost Winds reduced to $1.99 (a platformer). That's about half price. And the graphics are pretty darn good.

deanb
http://www.gog.com/promo/ea_worlds EA titles from GOG for cheap. I'll recommend Alpha Centauri (though it's getting on a bit now) and Dungeon Keeper 2. Sim City 2000 is way too old at this point. Can probably pick up 3000 or 4 for just as cheap. edit: Deus Ex for £3 http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/gb/en/pc/promo/birthday/?top (and others)

It's a Windows game too so it's not likely to appear on GOG anytime soon Edit: Especially sad for me as 3000 is my favorite SimCity. RockyRan
It's a Windows game too so it's not likely to appear on GOG anytime soon What'd you mean by that? Windows games that don't run well on modern OSs are way harder to "tweak" to get them working, whereas DOS games (the vast majority of games on GOG) just use custom versions of DOSBox and away they go. I believe the only Windows games that appear on GOG are ones that work with very little or no tweaking for modern OSs, like RollerCoaster Tycoon. SimCity 3000 doesn't have a DOS version, so I don't think GOG has any way to get it to work on modern OSs reliably.

Eleven
Assassin's Creed 2 is on sale on Steam, the whole thing for $45 you get three games. Seems pretty cool if you were just waiting to get the price drops. http://store.steampowered.com/sale/ubi_weekend2012 I wanna get Revelations. But isn't Assassin's Creed notorious for being a system hog? Edited May 19, 2012 by elev3n

deanb
Because it's not exactly perfect. Pretty much all it will be doing there is looking at the ghz, yet as you're aware the Core i5 is much stronger than the Core2Duo, so you can easily ignore that bit of advice. From couple years back when I emailed them pointing out it's failing on pretty much every test due to unsupported OS (in this case Windows 7): Hi Dean Thanks for taking the time and effort to contact us about the System Requirements Lab. We definitely strive to make the SRL as accurate as possible and with all the new hardware it is an ongoing effort. But getting help from good webizens such as yourself really helps. Regarding the requirements, the SRL has to test on the basis of the publishers validated requirements - and pass or fail based on that. Because the publishers (or NVIDIA in this case) are the ones who have to answer the tech support call. And regarding Windows 7, the publishers won’t fully support that OS until it is released. Even though it is really an upgrade for Vista, our hands are tied in this matter. If you have any other ideas, suggestions, critiques about the service, please contact me directly. Thanks again. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, don't just blindly follow SRL, you need to actually think about what the requirements are rather than just looking at the pass/fail. Your CPU easily meets the recommended. SRL is useful but it's not perfect.
P4: Gritty Reboot
Bunch o' Tomb Raider games on the cheap at GamersGate. I'm mulling over the Guardian of Light offer, so if anyone has any opinions on that one, spill 'em.
deanb
Well I bought it under Hot Hearts recommendation and then never played it. So whatever Hot Heart says, don't listen if you like money.
Hot Heart
I'm sure I've said it multiple times before but...Guardian of Light is really friggin' good. And if you do get it, hit me up for some co-op times! I'll try and remember the controls and 'pretend' like I've forgotten the puzzles. TheMightyEthan
Oftentimes puzzle-heavy games give me more trouble on my second time through because I remember most of the puzzle but I'm forgetting one crucial aspect of it. Then it's hard to figure out what I'm missing because I just did the rest by rote, without really thinking through why I was doing the things, so I have to try and work it all back out again from scratch.
Hot Heart
Because some of the puzzles are physics-based, I'm sure, at some point, my friend and I must have brute-forced our way through one without understanding it. Also, the game slightly alters all the puzzles depending on whether you're in single-player or multi-player, further confusing things. "Hey, this switch looks interesting... maybe you should try it? Just a suggestion." Been there, done that with Portal 2 when I'm playing with people who haven't played before.
