Remember Me

Anything below 7 is bad, unless IGN doesn't use the inflated scores other sites do.

Sigh... and that kind of attitude is exactly why we have inflated scores in the first place. Seriously, anything below 7 is bad? What the hell? It's not like a numerical score alone means much...

I'm just judging based on my past experience. It's not like it's my fault game sites have gravitated toward using a 7 as average.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that attitude. There's so many great games out there, gamers shouldn't have to settle for anything less than great these days.

However, Remember Me's reviews seem to be all over the place, we'll have to see how this one is once the dust settles.

Wow. I cant believe some of you think like that. There are some very "average" games out there that turn out that way because maybe half the things it does suck compared to other games, but sometimes what it does right is amazing and original. better than the 9 out of 10 games.

Maybe it's not worth our $60 bucks, but I think games like that are worth playing. To me this game seems worth playing, instead of blowing it off because of how average it is, im more intrigued by it. Ill wait a month til it's $20 bucks.

I liked Enslaved quite a bit, despite the fighting being very below average and the climbing being even more linear than Uncharted. Everything else it did great though. Graphics, story, characters, art design, music and voice acting. To me that outdoes the average gameplay.

Games have really changed for me over the years, gameplay isnt 100% of what I care about anymore, its just another fraction of it.

Shit, Nier is another average game worth playing. Average gameplay AND ugly graphics and voiceacting. But everything else is golden.

I want to clarify two things:

1:  I don't judge games off of just review scores (unless it's consistently getting like 5 or less, which this isn't).

2:  My statement that anything below 7 is bad was intended merely as an observation of the way sites use scores, not as any kind of statement as to the way things should be.

I just think there's more than enough quality 8+ out of 10 games out there that I'll never have the time to play, so unless it's something I'm really interested in, if the general reviews are anything below an 8/10, I just plum don't have time for it.

Sometimes a 7 or even a 6 is more worthwhile and interesting than a generic 8+. You make it sound like you're unwilling to even consider trying a game that got more "average" scores just because there's a ton of uninspired shootfests out there that scored a 9.

I'm sorry but that's beyond retarded.

Case in point: if IGN's score for Remember Me ends up being the lowest with the average being around 7 (which, so far, looks like it might be the case), then you can bet your ass I'll be grabbing it once it hits a cheaper price point. It sounds like it has some really interesting elements, even if the gameplay itself is weak or average.

I gotta agree with Ethan here FLD. It's not our fault reviewers in general have gravitated towards grading material in a pass/fail fashion. The reviewer liking the game nowadays almost always guarantees an 80 or 90. A large portion of gamers are either in school or college so think in that mindset as well. Movies also tend to be graded, at least in aggregated fashions, in a 60 to 100 being worth a watch.

Kotaku gave the game a "YES" to whether it was worth playing. It's apparently a linear experience. Which is a shame since a lot of the enjoyment from games like Sleeping Dogs is freedom to do what you wanted and drive around. BUT, I read the story is the saving grace. So that's enough for me to rent.

I don't have a single uninspired shooter in my gaming collection. So you know what... YOU'RE BEYOND RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well yeah, so why trust numbered reviews at all? Its ALL subjective.

Because they give you an idea at what to expect. Hey I'm with ya on a major playing field pal, I enjoyed Enslaved too. But I can guide whether I give something a try near its release date based on what I read on reviews and the score. Is it an RPG with a 7-9 aggregated score? I'll probably enjoy it. I think it depends on how picky you are. I consider myself pretty easy going when it comes to stuff with decent to good reviews. I have enjoyed games with horrible reviews before but I need to be interested in a major account from what I read of it.

I'm drawing a blank here. What's this generation's best shooter again? :P

Because they give you an idea at what to expect.

But the thing is, the score itself is really meaningless. You need to read the review to understand the reasoning behind it. One man's 7 is another's man 8 and so on. This is especially important to take into account when someone draws some arbitrary quality cutoff line like Cowboy's 8.

Yeah but one man's 7 is another man's 8, which means the game is still worth playing if you were interested.

If one man's 8 is another man's 2 and another's 5, and this trend continues, then something is wrong.

But if most people grade it low, I can safely keep away from the game until I'm so bored I give it a try

My arbitrary cut off would probably be a 7. Anything below a 7 is probably not worth my already limited gaming time.
