TheMightyEthan
How is there not already a thread for this? Especially considering the raving I've been hearing about it. Anyway, this is why I came here:
Mal
Well, I pretty much collected every single thing besides all the achievements so I think you folks can tell how much I like the game. I just think it could of been just a tad bit longer towards the end. If you played the game, you'll know why because its just so immersion breaking. Sort of. I just went with it since Shen is such a badass, just like any HK triad movie hero should be.
deanb
Yeah I heard nothing of this game, then Steam had a huge featured image for it and then everyone was like "Sleeping Dogs is ace". So what's it play like? Folks are saying GTA, so is it pretty much GTA in Hong Kong or something else to it?
Faiblesse Des Sens
I've never seen anyone compare it to GTA. It looks closer to Saint's Row, and even closer to True Crime, which it was once called. Though apparently the devs never worked on the originals and that was all from the publisher. Luftwaffles
Yeah I heard nothing of this game, then Steam had a huge featured image for it and then everyone was like "Sleeping Dogs is ace". So what's it play like? Folks are saying GTA, so is it pretty much GTA in Hong Kong or something else to it? Think GTA+Arkham City+Saints Row a bit. I'd say the story is more like GTA, the combat is the most like Arkham City, and the driving is sort of Saints Row-like. It's a pretty serious game from what I've seen so far, so I would say it's probably closer to GTA than Saints Row altogether, although as FDS said its roots are in True Crime. I haven't played more than a few minutes at a friends house, but I've bought it on Steam and will definitely be playing through it when I get the chance and work and moving settles down. So maybe never.

danielpholt
Gave the Demo a play through this morning and i wasn't convinced. I found the free running aspects to be a little 'stodgy', but maybe thats because Assassins Creed gets it done so well. The Combat was fun though, i enjoy throwing a man into a furnace as much as the next guy.
Connorrrr
I'm loving it, truly. To echo above sentiments, it's like Saints Row without all the nonsense (open world sandbox crime sim-esque), Arkham City without all the flashy flips and jumping around (in terms of combat). It's a lot of fun, and there seems to be quite a lot to do outside of the main quest, at least so far. The PC port is fantastic, too. Really great, up there with Deus Ex in terms of how glad I am it worked out, major respect for that, and other devs/publishers would do well to take note (Deus Ex was sort of a PC franchise already, whereas this was previously a True Crime game, a franchise that I don't believe has seen the PC, arguably making it more impressive). Eleven
The video is cool. I do something similar in the game, although I don't know if you'd call me a magician. I drive around Central. There's an area there with a bar or night club or some sort... I park my car. Step out of the vehicle and get some fresh air. Sometimes there's a cop walking in that area but I ignore him, he gets out of sight eventually. Then... I see... she's.. what was that about? I was just smiling at her. Look at her acting so smug, acting like I'm beneath her. Well... i'll show her... I walk up to her... I'm a bit clumsy so I bumped into her. She's furious now, shouting I should be careful. These american bitches in Hong Kong should know better than to act so high and mighty. I grab her. She's screaming now, but I put her in the trunk of my car. I think some people saw me. But I don't care. There's a dock up north of central. I drive there. There's a ramp that seems to exist only for people to drive their cars over it and into the ocean... The ocean will soothe her pain soon enough...
TheMightyEthan
Does the present tense indicate this is something you do regularly and repeatedly, or is this just a one-time thing that you chose not to write in past-tense? Eleven
I wouldn't say I only did it once I once tried to put a cop in there, but I can't seem to grab them. They keep reversing me.
Luftwaffles
I was playing last night and was just walking around and somehow found a 9mm pistol lying on the ground. Keep in mind I'm only 2 hours into the game, way before guns appear at all. I have no idea why this one was here. Unsure how to actually drop it, and not exactly willing to waste such an opportunity, I went on a shooting spree, looking for gang members around lockboxes and drug busts, and I was really surprised to see how that went. I thought all the jackasses would just run at me and try and take my gun, but surprisingly they got scared and ran away. So I shot them. And it didn't feel good at all. After smashing guys into telephone boxes, heads in doors, or screens in restaurants, something about shooting a cowering individual, a quick death, just didn't feel right. I wish more games did that. Maritan
Square Enix publishes surprisingly good games nowadays. And with good PC versions, too. Also, It's the first game in recent memory that doesn't look like it went through fucking instagramm.
Eleven
I don't know about you... but everytime I get a virtual gun, I feel the need to shoot, unfortunately, innocent people. Shooting bad guys isn't exciting enough anymore. I racked up a kill streak of 10 on a sidewalk, which I'm always reminded of during hand to hand combat, as I could never beat it (without another gun, that is). I got enough cop levels to get a shotgun from police cars. Those thugs near the security cameras better get out of the way. I wonder if they'll draw guns too. I ran over a couple thugs using a car, and their backups bought their own cars and rammed mine. I managed to get 68 flying kicks in a fight. Mal
If you need to get into a gunfight, you'll know by the gun on the ground. If you want to feel better about shooting people, dress up as a Terminator.
Eleven
I was going to post a video of the fight club but I fucked it up and it only rendered 1 minute of it, which is not enough to show you how the combat is. I figured you should really see how it works when fighting multiple enemies. Of course I could just pick a video out of youtube, but I wanted to show it how I see it. In the meantime, here's another cool feature i stumbled upon (the first cool feature was putting people in the trunk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvViTuKVfEk
Mal
How about jumping out, shooting the tires out and having that car skid/roll towards a group of enemies?
Mr. GOH!
This game is pretty boss. I love how much driving on the left side of the street fucks me up.
Waldorf and Statler
That fucked me up at first. I also love how the best car in the game, the lamborghini looking motherfucker, is so god damn fast and expensive nobody else owns it in the whole game and it handles like ass. But you'll be going so fast in races that it doesn't matter.
Mr. GOH!
I also really like how it connects with Steam friends' accounts and the "challenges" that pop up (like 'driving clean'). Can't wait until I can play again Monday night.
Waldorf and Statler
I beat it yesterday and the game is consistent the whole way through. I guess my only complaint is that the best clothing for the Triad is some ugly puffy jacket thing. While the best clothing to buy cars and for police missions are super sweet suits and ties.
