SixTwoSixFour
You heard about it, now live it. Or something. I dunno. The Press X or Die Persona 4 Arena Ladder League is hereby open! So far, our membership is myself, Advent Chaos, UnstableArk, Omnimon, and DukeOfPwn. We could take anywhere from one to three more people... after that, we'd probably have to shift the format? We haven't done ranking matches or anything yet, I wanted to give people time to get used to the game, but we should all be decently used to it by now. My man Omnimon has the details of how the league will work- he'll offer you the nitty-gritty, and then we can start planning times for matches. It's not too late to join! Oh. PS3 version, by the way. Shoulda said that sooner.
Cyber Rat
I guess I'll be joining next season, since I don't get the game until October.
Johnny
I'll join when I can. We don't even know when the EU version is out.
SixTwoSixFour
Yeah, I was gonna wait 'til September 7th (the last release date I heard for the EU), but then it got hit with that indefinite delay, and I feel like if this doesn't start soonish, it's not gonna happen. Omnimon
Better late than never, I'm here to provide the details, which will be more of just talking through how I would structure the league. Feedback is very welcome, I'm not here to be some P4A dictator (especially since I expect to win 0 matches). Stick with me, because this actually looks a LOT more complicated than it is. I'm more than happy to answer any questions. Seasons will run 2 weeks, each week being a separate format. Week 1: Round-Robin Ranking Matches: Each player will be required to play every other player in 2 separate FT5 matches (Clarification: FT5 is First two 5 Games, a game is best 2 of 3 rounds). The results will be recorded in a spreadsheet like below; I'll manage it, you'll just need to send me results. In the example, Omnimon and Six have played both of their Ranking Matches. In the first match, Six won the FT5 by a score of 5-3. In the second match, Omnimon won 5-4. The results are also recorded as FT5 total match wins and losses, and total game wins. Once everyone has completed their matches (within a week, timeframes will be announced well ahead of time), players will be ranked by their total number of match wins. If there is a tie in total match wins, game wins will serve as the tiebreaker. This makes every game important, so don't give up! Edit: The forum didn't like my table/spreadsheet, I'll share an example when we get closer to things kicking off. Trust me, it's awesome. Week 2: Tournament: This is the easy part. I'll create a bracket at challonge.com, and we'll play a double elimination tournament like every FGC tournament you've ever seen. In the case of a 4-man bracket, rank 1 from Week 1 would play rank 4 in the first round, and two would play three. In the case of a 6-man, ranks 1 and 2 would have a first-round bye, rank 3 would play rank 6, and rank 4 would play 5, etc. Every round of the tournament will be played as best two of three sets, with a set being best 2 of three games. In Grand Finals, the Loser's Bracket constestant will have to 'reset the bracket' by winning a round (2 of 3 sets). If this gets legs and more people join, there would be a middle 'ladder' section, preferably of 2 weeks. I wouldn't suggest we expand to include the ladder weeks until we have at least 8 people playing. If we get to 6 people, I would suggest we might need to expand to the round-robin to 2 weeks. As far as timeframes, I think we're looking at the third week of September (after 9/18) to get started. I also expect that there will be questions, so we'll kick off with a chat room to answer any questions before we get started. I think this goes without saying, as we're all reasonable internet pals, but no one wants to play referee. If there's a dispute, solve it amongst yourselves; when in doubt, just start the game over. If you can't work it out, take it to a third party that's in the group, explain it, and accept their suggestion as to a fair resolution and move on. This has the potential to be lots of fun, and I'm more than happy to help run it and play the role of doormat. Again, if you have some feedback on the format, let me know. SixTwoSixFour
It's coming up... only about a week now. If anyone else wants to join, now's the time! And if you want to get some practice, hit me up for a match any time I'm around! Looks like the current roster is 4- myself, Omnimon, DukeOfPwn, and UnstableArk.
