Adventure Time

I think what made the Fionna and Cake episode was how in the end it was a fanfic written by the Ice King. I mean, it kinda worked itself into the world of Adventure Time given that Ice King would do something to that nature. It did start off as a fan's Rule 63, gained a following, and became an episode. Whatever fans do with the material afterwards is inescapable because it is a fandom (like Jack said).

Watching it again, some of the subtext is really beginning to sink in. Like when he wrote "And I need to save you, but who's going to save me" it really implies that Simon willingly wore the crown and accelerated his own mental degeneration in exchange for the power to protect Marceline from whatever dangers were lurking around in the wasteland. He might have been doomed either way, but he was still essentially sacrificing himself for her sake, and no matter how you slice it that's downright noble.

Also, I'm hoping that Marceline and the current Ice King develop a relationship (not THAT kind). Marceline probably knew to some extent what happened, but that message he wrote seemed to surprise her. I guess I can say she KNEW, but she didn't UNDERSTAND until she saw it. Up until this episode, Marceline went out of her way to avoid the Ice King to the point of constantly moving around just to stay under his radar, but maybe now she'll warm up to him a little. Even if he's not the man he used to be, maybe somewhere in that crazy head of his he still has the capacity to care about her. He keeps finding her, after all. There must be some part of him that is still attached to her, even if he doesn't remember why, so hopefully Marceline will be more willing to let him visit her so he won't be so lonely all the time.

Well some stuff came up from rewatching the episode and reading the wikia:

-Ice King subconsciously has an attraction to come to Marceline. Part of the reason he likes her music so much is due to his subconscious [simon] knowing who she is and always wanting to find her to see her again. After Betty left him, Marceline is probably the closest he came to loving someone like family.

-He said the pages smelled like wet tears. This is implying he has at some point, or many times before, regained some knowledge about who he is and what he has become, seen the scrapbook and started to cry over the memories/realization. Then he forgets again [Alzheimer's and Dementia].

-While Marceline says she moves around to try and avoid him, she also sang in the earlier part of her singing that she's always glad to see him when he DOES find her again. Similar to dear family members with Alzheimer's. You dread seeing them to realize they don't recognize you but when you do all the good memories come flooding and whether they recognize you or not, it STILL is the person you care about.

-When he pushed Marceline away, he showed more remorse about simply pushing someone than he does about doing something that could be considered worst to someone else. Like removing body parts from princesses, or freezing Finn and Jake so they spend time with him.

And yeah I agree with you Jack. Hence why I want to see an episode where they show glimpses of their journey and him losing his mind, or an episode where Simon escapes the madness for a second, says something to her, then loses it again.

Well, the fan that started it all is an artist working on Adventure Time. Natasha for sure pushed this side of the fandom much further along than it would have without her. She's a great artist for sure but she does has "that" sort of artist feeling to her. Though her stuff are pretty mild compare to the other stuff I have seen. If I can deal with the MLP side of this sort of thing, I can for sure deal with the Adventure Time side.\

Edit: And that is what I get for forgetting to post my reply earlier. Doh.

The Christmas special was pretty much an introduction to the character of Simon, so I don't believe there is much to it other than the big reveal that Ice King use to be human.

I wonder how long they had this plot about Ice King and Marceline? In the very same special, Marceline is outside the treehouse. No one ever made a big deal about it given that it's something Marceline could do as her "spooky" self. Thing is, I think for the entire four seasons, they've been careful not to depict the two together in any one scene. At least, I can't think of any instance.

They haven't ever really been together yeah. Storylines of Marcelines with others usually just involve Finn and Jake and once in a while Princess Bubblegum. So they probably had something of a plan that these two would know each other, yet didn't want to show their relationship too much beforehand.

Seriously, I've seen a lot of sad things as far as television series go, but this one is simply sticking to me and making me tearful. The implications, what emotion must have been created in the span of 1000 years, one involving a broken-hearted girl and the other a pathetic loon who has unknowingly lost his true self.

I just had a horrible thought.

Okay, so there's a good chance that Marceline wasn't always a vampire. She was always at least half demon or whatever the hell Hunson is supposed to be, but whenever we see her as a little kid she doesn't have bite marks in her neck. So while Hunson was off doing god knows what, Marceline was being taken care of by Simon. At some point he went away and Marceline was on her own again. At some point after that Hunson showed up and became part of her life. Since she's not a vampire, she needs food to live. What does her dad do? Eat her fucking fries that he doesn't even need. So ultimately I'm getting at this:

What if Marceline became a vampire because otherwise she would have STARVED TO DEATH?

I don't think it's quite that dark haha. She has bite marks at one point and became the vampire queen by defeating the king. So maybe she defeated him, made him bite her, and became the queen.

Also some light-hearted awesome sauce.
