excel_excel
Heard great things, unsuccessfully tried to buy it when it just before it launched, Steam was on the blink. Will probably get it when its got everything fixed up, heard there's quite a few bugs going on with the game right now. The Eurogamer review pushed it for me. And that soundtrack, fantastic stuff. jayc4life
Most of the bugs are fixed now, gamepad support's coming in the next update, but no word on when the Steam overlay's gonna be working though. But oh man - what an awesome game. Anyone here finished it? Because I'm finding the post-game threads and theories to be fascinating. PXOD review (from yours truly) is coming real soon. Won't go into detail, but I'll say this: I'm probably going to regurgitate most of it once the Game Of The Year talk starts happening in December. That's not even an exaggeration.
danielpholt
Apparently they're in talks with Sony to bring it to Vita. Until (if) those talks are scrapped i'll get the PC version but from what i've seen, it looks like it might be perfect for the Vita.
jayc4life
Review is up. Apparently they're in talks with Sony to bring it to Vita. Until (if) those talks are scrapped i'll get the PC version but from what i've seen, it looks like it might be perfect for the Vita. I highly doubt they'll be bringing it anywhere outside PC/Mac just yet. It was made entirely with Game Maker, so if they do console versions, they're going to have to start from scratch because GameMaker only supports home computers, iOS and Android. They already have someone separate as it is working on tidying up the Mac version for release. It wouldn't make financial sense. Unless someone (Devolver?) were to sponsor and gifts them a PlayStation SDK, because they sure don't grow on trees.
danielpholt
Isn't the Vita built off of Android?
jayc4life
No? Don't know what gave you that impression, but PSVita's a completely separate beast from Android. Completely different UIs and firmware.
TheMightyEthan
Might be thinking of Playstation Suite.
danielpholt
Most probably got my wires crossed. I vaguely remember Thisismynext/Engadget mentioning something about the Vita running some form of Android.
MasterDex
Picked it up yesterday based on James' review. I didn't go wrong. Sat down to play it for a couple of minutes and ended up playing it for an hour and 15 minutes. Simple, fun and addictive - every game connoisseur should own a copy. deanb
http://www.edge-online.com/features/the-making-of-hotline-miami/ A making of on Edge. Good read regardless of if played the game or not (I haven't, but I've an interest)
TCP
This game feels right at home on the Vita, which is quickly turning into a great platform for indie games.Dean: any way to get this thread moved to multiplat?
Strangelove
I suck at this game.
NeoStarr
If you have it on Steam... right click > properties > beta Use "hlm" as your password (without the quotes). Unlocks leaderboards, fixes steam overlay. Crashes about 500% less then the not-beta version (my experience); thus taking away any doubts that this is the best game of all time omfg I love it. deanb
Does it add much to the 360 controller? I find that much more faster and fluid to play with, but you lose out on the shift/look ability (unless there's an option I'm missing somewhere). Also it'd be nice if guns were a tad more useful. At least to counter the fact they make enemies much harder to get to, yet are kinda naf for you to use yourself.
Saturnine Tenshi
I always found the guns incredibly useful. Especially the shotgun + throw ability.

At least to counter the fact they make enemies much harder to get to, yet are kinda naf for you to use yourself. You hold down one of the bumpers (right?) to look around. As for guns... they're hugely useful. And you can throw them to stun once you run out of ammo. Once shit hits the fan I want a gun on me and not a melee weapon. They're also very useful to kill two enemies at different distances when you need more than a stun on the 2nd enemy.
NeoStarr
Guns give shit for points though. There are 3 or 4 rooms throughout the game that they're practically required for (and those rooms are always loaded with guys so you get a combo bonus to compensate), but aside from that I'd avoid firing them at all costs (throwing is still ok). I've noticed that a couple gun kills is all it takes to miss out on that A+ on most levels, even if you're switching between them. I don't think they should've included guns in the unlockable weapons. In a game where you're expected to die every 30 seconds, it's strange that few things are more frustrating then when a weapon spot spawns a gun. I can't comment on the controller in the HLM beta because I've never used one. I'd try it out but mine is broken at the moment. I'm getting close to A+ing every level now, and when I get tired or frustrated I've been doing fist only completions with the Tony mask. Faiblesse Des Sens
Yeah, but what if you don't care about score?
NeoStarr
Then I highly recommend fist only completions with the Tony mask.
Saturnine Tenshi
Yeah, I never bothered with going for score.
deanb
I do enjoy the Tony mask. It's Grrrreat. I'd say one issue I have is that you have to complete the whole chapter, or it counts as doing none of the chapter. Which can kinda suck when some chapters have weird bosses that don't quite follow the usual rules (anyone noticed dogs don't either? They not only hone in, but doors don't work on them). Double suck with the game occasionally knocking you back to the main menu (I think that's more an issue with the key bindings of the controller when paused though) Kinda wish it'd have a mask selector when restarting. If you're figuring trying to complete the level with a different mask you've got to quit all the way through to the main menu then reload the level up again from there and then start the level with a new mask. Bit of a slog for what could be solved with a "Change Mask" option in the pause menu. The beta patch password doesn't work btw.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Double suck with the game occasionally knocking you back to the main menu (I think that's more an issue with the key bindings of the controller when paused though) Hmm? I use a controller and I've never had this happen. What are you doing exactly when this occurs? Also the beta password might be expired now. It worked for me. You should email the dev that mask idea or twit him or something. That's a good recommendation for HLM2.
NeoStarr
The beta code was tweeted by the developer a month ago; it's not gonna expire. Edit: YAY! I'm in 16th place for the Full House level!
Saturnine Tenshi
I'm not sure which mask I used. Well, I'm not sure of the name of it. Whichever makes thrown items deadly. I generally stuck with that one.
