Encountering E68 error while transferring data

I've had a 20GB HD forever now, and I'm finally out of space. I went to Gamestop and bought a used/reformatted 60 GB HD.

I did a rudimentary test to see that the 60 GB HD worked before I attempted to transfer my data. I plugged it in, and everything seemed fine. The system started and showed that the HD was empty and ready to go.

Three days later, I transferred my data onto a simple 16GB flash drive. Then I unplugged the 20GB, and carefully popped the 60GB HD into the system. Turned on the power and BAM! immediate E68 error. I turned the system on and off six more times with the same result.

Once I plugged my old 20GB HD back in, everything started fine.

So what the heck is wrong? An initial conclusion points to the 60GB HD being faulty, but then why did it work okay three days ago?

It seems as if something happened when I transferred the data onto the flash drive -- like maybe I removed a critical firmware update, and without it, the 60GB HD can't start up.

I don't know. This is very frustrating. I'm currently in the process of re-transferring my data back onto my 20GB HD. After that's done, I'm going to try and see if the 60 GB HD works again.

PS: I'd gladly use a data transfer cable, but my dinglefart friend lost it and has no idea where it is.

EDIT/UPDATE: Well, I put my data back on my old HD, and tried the 60GB HD again -- basically recreating the conditions of my first test of the HD, and it did NOT work. The E68 error returned.

All I can conclude now is that the 60GB HD is broken somehow. I'm going to return it to GS and have it swapped out for another one.
