P4: Gritty Reboot
Alrighty, sign-ups are winding down and we're at 21 participants! Awesome turnout, really excited for this year. This thread is not for general discussion of the exchange. Each participant who has signed up for SS2012 should post once in this thread letting their Santa know what kind of games they like, whether they prefer Steam or another service or digital gift, that sort of thing. Do not post again if you think of more; edit your original post. The more detail you give, the more likely you are to receive something you want. That said, your own style is fine--you could just do a short list of a few things you've been eyeing or else you could be as detailed as you want. This is not a replacement for Steam wishlists--use those as well. This thread is to give a little more background about your wants and why you may want them. My Wishlist post will be right here in the top post to give you an idea of what we're looking for. Including a link to your Steam account and wishlist would be a good idea as well. Here is a template to get you started: Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions) Background General criteria What are your favorite genres? What are your favorite games? Are you okay with getting games not on your wishlist or other digital gifts? --- P4's Christmas Wishlist Steam ID: P4warrior Wishlist Country: USA Well as some of you may know, I moved away from games writing (a bit--I still write for GamerSpawn) and a little away from video gaming this year. I still enjoy video games very much, but I have shifted some of my focus into the exciting world of board gaming. The physicality, social aspects, and transparency of mechanics really appeal to me in that realm. As such--and due to the demands of parenthood over two awesome boys--I don't play a ton of video games that demand my full attention anymore or demand 30-40 hours to play through the story (though I did list a few that I have been looking at anyway). Games that Alt+Tab or play in small windows appeal to me, as do digital versions of board games. Games that I can pop in, play for 20 minutes, and pop out are ideal. Family and kids games are great too, especially same-PC co-op. As for genres, I like action games, whether FPS or TPS, I like light to medium strategies, I like platformers and indie games as well as RPGs. I don't play too many sports or racing games. I do like arcade-style games with combo systems and high scores as well. Co-op games always strike my fancy so long as my wife will play them too. A smattering of my favorite games is Half-Life, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Galaxy, Jamestown, Left 4 Dead, Unreal Tournament 2004, VVVVVV, and Portal 2. I am totally 100% OK with not getting something on my wishlist if you, dear Santa, know of something even better for my criteria above that I am unaware of. I prefer Steam gifts, but I am fine with GOG or anything else. Thanks in advance!
Saturnine Tenshi
Saturnine Tenshi's Christmas Wishlist Steam ID: elvenampersands Wishlist Country: Canada I don't really have much in the way of criteria. I don't care for "games as art" when the game exists for no other reason than to serve as something to look at: games are interactive entertainment and if they can't provide that much I'm not interested. It may surprise you, but I actually have fairly eclectic tastes. Wow! While role-playing games remain my foundation, I branch out to most anything besides sports and racing games—though carting is sometimes welcome. Sometimes. Oh, Dean reminded me: no horror games. Favorite games include Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale II, Clannad, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Counter-Strike, Dishonored, Super Mario World, Suikoden, The Witcher 2, Dungeons of Dredmor, Xenogears, Ar Tonelico II, Atelier Totori, Shadow Hearts, Nier, etc. etc. If a game you want to purchase for me is cheaper elsewhere, go ahead. And if you think you have something I may like that isn't on my wishlist, by all means go with that. Luftwaffles
Sporkwaffles' Christmas Wishlist Steam ID: Luftwaffles Wishlist Country: America I'm a simulator nerd, currently playing ARMA 2 and the DCS series of combat flight sims religiously, but I like pretty much every type of game (except for those goddamn 2D indie platformers). Really anything will do, though, and I like to give a game the benefit of the doubt. Favorite games include the ARMA series, Battlefield series up until BF3, Planetside 1, Far Cry 2, Counter-Strike 1.6, Rise of Nations, Fallout New Vegas, and some other ones I can't remember off the top of my head. Really though I'm fine with anything. I'll gladly try any game gifted to me and even if I don't like it it's probably me being fickle rather than your poor judgement. Gifting elsewhere: Go for it. The only console I use is a PS3 (and I don't think you can gift?) but I use GOG, Gamersgate, Steam, whatever.
Waldorf and Statler
Wally Wally Wally World's Christmas Extravaganza Steam ID: http://steamcommunit...arkwinterlager/ (does not know how to link with text on top yolo amirite?) Wishlist: http://steamcommunit...lager/wishlist/ Country: 'Muuurca I guess my favorite genre is western rpg's. The two games I really want to play are in the next few months are Far Cry 3 and Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition but those are above the prince range of this so they aren't part of the discussion. I'm very story driven. If the game has a fantastic story it doesn't matter if it's average or below average. If I can be engaged by said story, I'm in. And yes this includes mushy romances. I'm a sucker for those. Like others have said I'm fine with everything. If it's something from Steam, especially in my wishlist which has plenty of games in the range, it'd be awesome sauce. I'll be adding more in the next few days in the $5-$10 range though probably not many more since I'm a very picky gamer when it comes to random titles I want to play. As to other things beside a PC I own an xbox. And a DS. If you can think of something I might enjoy that you did all to you mate/or matelle. Just in case it's a lady. Since we have so many here. Thursday Next
Thursday Next's Christmas Wishlist Steam ID: VictorAnalogy Wishlist I've recently returned to PC gaming so any PC exclusive titles of recent years would be of interest. I actually like arty little indie games. I'm not so into competitive multiplayer, but co-op multi is good. Genre wise, I'm not fussy. Adventure games, puzzlers, RPGs, shooters are all fine with me. I'm fine with receiving things not on my wishlist, however, I'm fully stocked on EA games (which given the current EA - Steam relations shouldn't pose an issue). Hope those URLs look right... I'm not good at htmling. Fuck this noise. Edited November 30, 2012 by Thursday Next
toxicitizen
Steam profile Steam wishlist Country: Canada Steam is my platform of choice. I have pretty wide-ranging tastes, so anything from big AAA FPS and RPGs to weird indie stuff, really. Some of my all-time favorites include the Deus Ex and Thief series, so I'm obviously a big fan of stealth games. Not too sure what else to add. I use my wishlist as kind of a shopping list/reminder so there's a bunch of stuff to choose from on it. Pretty much anything I see that I want but am not going to buy immediately goes on it. It's also mostly sorted by order of preference, so there. I've already done most of the work for you.
Eleven
Steam Wishlist iOS Wishlist What games do you like? What are your favorite genres? I like RPGs! JRPGs and Western RPGs. But lately, I haven't had the time to play a lot of those. On this genre, my favorite games would be FF-X, Vesperia, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, The Witcher, and Baldur's Gate. I like my RPGs to have drama, action-y, good story or any combination of those. I also like Action/Adventure games, namely the 3rd person ones, like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed. Open worlds appeal to me too. I also like platformers and/or brawlers. Especially on a portable. Lately though I've been gaming a lot on my iOS device, hence I put up a wishlist too, if you feel like it (iOS gifting guide!) You need iTunes and a credit card for this, iTunes balance from cards won't work for gifting . And pardon me but I have to mention, in case you are wondering if you could send a (US) gift card with the name of the app you wan't to gift instead, yes you can do that. Is there any game genre you aren't particularly fond of? I do not like stat-heavy games and games with lots of micro-management. Sports games and Strategy games. FPS are a hit or miss. Honestly, your wishlist sucks. I can find better games than that for you. That would be cool too! Though keep in mind the genres I don't like. Gifts are great! deanb
Steam Wishlisht Country: England Background I'm primarily a PC gamer, but kinda straddle between the two. I'm more a PC gamer due to the fact the games are cheaper, and I'm mainly on my PC so it's much simpler to boot up. I like controller-based games so I won't turn my nose up at some games that pretty much require it. I like slower paced games, I'm not the fastest of gaming reactions (and do play games on normal/easy). What are your favorite genres? I would say RPGs, but Raptr says "Action games". One game type I definitely like is money making games, but there's not as many of those around. Like SimCity, Themepark (oh god EA what did you do to it?), Assassin's Creed, Dwarf Fort and so on. So if there's elements of money making/empire buidling(business or otherwise) I'll likely enjoy it. I also kinda like shooters, but the wierder ones instead of the modern military/world war types. Stuff like Bulletstorm, Crysis(1), Bioshock, Far Cry 3, etc. Oh and I hate horror games (and movies) and don't care much at all for "arty farty" games. What are your favorite games? FFIX is always one to immediately throw out there. Not much sure on others. I've got InFamous, DXHR, Minecraft, Defense Grid, DOW, n Civ V on my Darkadia favourites so I guess those too. Steam would also imply Bethesda games too. Are you okay with getting games not on your wishlist or other digital gifts? I guess, there's likely plenty of games I'd like if only I had it shoved in my face to play. I'm playing Avadon: The Black Fortress at the moment and I'd likely never given it a look if it hadn't been in the Humble Android Bundle. As for "other digital gifts" I would say unles it's specifcally on my wishlsiht, no to DLC.
Chewblaha
Hello, fellow forum members. Long time lurker, first time poster. I'd like to start off my post here by letting you all know that I'm thankful that you accepted me into your daily rituals of forum use. I will do my best to be a part of this. that said, my Wishlist is like a Magic: The Gaddering deck. It is comprised of small early drops that eventually become mighty drops. Don't get the mighty drops. Background Anyway I'm from the US. I was a console gamer for quite a while since my old PC sucked but I've balanced out as of late. So I'm on Steam quite a bit. Favorite Genres Role playing, real-time strategy, simulation, first person shooter, puzz-- every type of genre I love. Genres I Don't Like? None. Am I Okay With Getting Stuff Not On My List? Yes. Who am I to tell someone what they can and cannot get me. I appreciate anything that comes from thought. Though it'd be a lot easier for me if it was on Steam. Why my caps edited why what. Mal
Steam ID: http://steamcommunity.com/id/malicioush Wishlist: http://steamcommunity.com/id/malicioush/wishlist Country: USA! USA! USA! Being a college student, it may be weird that I have a PS3, 360 and a PC. Not surprisingly, PC is my main. For the games I play, I tend to go for shorter games now since I am a college student. These shorter games already wrecking havoc on me, so longer games like RPGs will rape me. Any genre can work* but I do find myself going for indie games more since they tend to break convention more often than not. If you don't know by now, I like weird stuff. I do have a GOG account and such. I just don't really check them all too much... so if it can be on Steam then the better. If you grab something for the consoles, I guess that can work too. Favorite games of mines... Ys games, Minecraft, Final Fantasy Tactics/IX, Halo... doesn't help much does it? *I think the only exception is point and click adventures. I can do visual novels just fine so I don't know whats up.
TheMightyEthan
TheMightyEthan's Christmas Wishlist Steam ID: TheMightyEthan Wishlist Country: USA I don't know what to say about my criteria, other than that I tend to be picky about my shooters so it might be safer to stay away from those (other than the two on my wishlist, which are currently still $60 so I definitely do NOT expect anyone to even consider them), and that for some reason JRPGs have never done it for me. Favorite genres I think would be strategy (RTS or TBS), Action/Adventure and WRPG. My absolute most favorite game of all time is probably Red Dead Redemption, but other favorites include the Assassin's Creed series, Halo, Starcraft, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Zelda (any of them, but especially Wind Waker). If you think you can choose something for me that's not on my wishlist but you think I'll like then go for it, though like others I'd say it's probably best to stay away from DLC unless it's on the list. *Edit* - One more thing: I'm definitely not a fan of excessively difficult games. Cyber Rat
Cyber Rat's Xmas Wishlist: Steam ID: Duskstrider Wishlist Country: Serbia Background: I used to write for PXOD, then moved on for a few paid gigs in writing and recently got a job as a PR Assistant at a social game dev company. I've been primarily a PC gamer due to only being able to afford a PC for the longest time (I did own a Master System 2, though). But I know quite a bit about the 8bit, 16bit and 32bit era of gaming regardless. Favorite genres: Fighting games and platformers are my genres of choice, but I'm a real platformer snob due to my familiarity with the genre. I generally enjoy other genres as well (and my list of favorite games is made out of fighters and platformers the least). Favorite games: Half-Life, Guilty Gear, Nier, God Hand... Genres I don't like: Sports games and RTS. I also need a really good reason to play Diablo-esque hack and slash games. Turn-based strategy is fine, but I generally don't have the time to get around to playing them. Also, I hate Borderlands. I consider it so bad, it's a genre of its own to me. Am I OK with getting games not on my wishlist? Yes. A lot of stuff on the Steam store is unavailable in my region, which means I can't even add it to my wishlist, let alone buy it. Xmas is my favorite holiday...live near Gulf Shores/Alabama...so, doesn't get too cold sadly. Been "gaming" since I was a wee lad. First game I played was DOOM and Myst(Really, really sucked at Myst, but did well watching my dad!). SNES was my first console...followed my NES(Backwards, I know), Sega Genesis, PS1, N64, Sega Dreamcast...and on and on. Love gaming on both PC and consoles equally...just had a problem with actually finishing games. General criteriaYou need to spend at least $260 on me. (kidding). Prefer games with a story...but I also like sim-type games like Sim City/Tropico/etc. that don't really have a story. Not a fan of sports/racing games or MMOs(Primarily because I take a long ass time getting through a game...I'll never be able to do much in an MMO) What are your favorite genres?RPGs and Simulators probably. What are your favorite games?Gothic 3, Skyrim, Bioshock, Half-Life, Final Fantasy, Tropico 3 Are you okay with getting games not on your wishlist or other digital gifts?Yes...actually prefer to be surprised by something NOT on my wishlist. I mean...I'll be happy with whatever you get me on my wishlist, as they are games I really, really want...but if you get me something I probably have never heard of and you think I'd like it...go for it! Mr. GOH!
Steam ID and wishlist: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969619762/ My GOG name is MrGOH. No idea how to link to my profile or wishlist there. Will update if I figure it out. Background: Mostly a PC gamer these days, though I do play console games. I have little time to dedicate to gaming these days, though I still love RPGs and Grand Strategy games. That's what meant by background, right? General Criteria: I do not have the time to put into multiplayer games these days, and I'm not really into sports games. No racing games, please. I also prefer well-crafted games with interesting narratives, whether they're AAA or indie games. Favorite game genres: Western RPGs and single-player strategy games are at the top, but I also enjoy shooters with good gameplay and stories, adventure games, imaginative puzzle games, simulations, and stealth games. Favorite Games: Final Fantasy 6, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate II, Victoria II, Empire: Total War, Vampire: The Masquerade, Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood, Grand Theft Auto 4, Master of Orion 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 2, Sim City 4, Civilization Series, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Dishonored, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Totally chill with getting stuff not on my list. Since my steam wishlist is mostly out of the price range, I kinda expect it. My GOG wishlist is all $10 or less, however. I dunno what "other digital gifts" means. If it means video or music downloads, I'd say that I'd rather receive a game of some sort.

As far as my steam wishlist, I've got my eyes set on The Walking Dead episodes. Honestly I will be happy with anything I receive, I would just feel badly if I was gifted a game I won't play. I've tried to stick to affordable games for my steam list, so that's probably your best bet. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Basically, born to a life of luxury and plenty. Blood type B positive, height 6 foot 1, and my left leg is ever so slightly longer than my right. Criteria: Stay away from multiplayer games please, I'm more a single player kinda guy. Perferred Genres: My preferred genres of game are RPG, Turn based strategy and Platformer. Favorite Games: Metroid Prime is undoubtedly the best game I've ever played. Final Fantasy XII is my second favorite after that. Only those two are solid... once you get down to third and fourth place that changes based on my mood. At this particular moment they're Zelda: The Minish Cap and Super Mario 3D Land. I am totally open to receiving gifts that are not on my Steam wishlist, and if somebody is inspired to get me something else they think I'll get a kick out of then by all means do so.
