Games You've Beat in 2013

You have to be a bit more specific than that. If you're talking of an optional tomb then those usually involve one puzzle and that's it. If you're talking of the one with the windows that you open/close to let wind in

the whole trick is to time closing the windows and raising the platform. I think it's platform first, then window

That platform is all about the timing. If it makes you feel better that's probably the puzzle I had the hardest time in. Except one later in the game's main story where [i won't give story spoilers but since I'm discussing a puzzle relatively late you might not want to read it]

you have to raise/lower/swing that iron maiden/bell thing to destroy a gigantic door then swing past it. Fuck me that took me too long mostly because I couldn't figure out how to get on top of the thing for the final swing.

"A Survivor is Born" thing right before the credits really destroyed the mood they'd built, making me actually laugh out loud.

Ha, that makes two of us. It kinda made me cringe a little bit.

Anyway, just beat Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It was fucking fantastic, even if the story is really short. I spent a lot of time doing everything there was to do on the island, though, so it took me around 10 hours overall and I still got probably another hour or two if I want to go back and get the last few achievements.

Also, while the story was gloriously stupid and amazing, I actually enjoyed the gameplay a great deal as well. So now I really want to play Far Cry 3. But I don't have the 50 bucks to drop on it right now, so that sucks. :(

I had that right, but for some reason I couldn't get it to go forward when I was on it.

If I recall, you have to open the window, then walk over to the platform control and wait a couple of seconds before doing it. Then you should be able to ride it up to the wall and shimmy up that

I beat Borderlands 2 yesterday. Got a bit tired of it by the end so was only playing in short sessions. I think I would've preferred playing as any other of the characters after all that, because there's never enough friggin' sniper rifle ammo and the melee tree is pretty useless until you get to a higher level. Ultimately, it meant I had to play fairly cautiously most of the time, and go scavenging for ammo whenever I didn't have easy access to the vending machines. And it was especially annoying when I went through the whole slog of the final bit to discover I couldn't beat the final boss thanks to a glitch and had to completely replay it another evening. Fortunately, that formerly-glitched part was fairly easy and I think the final boss was an OK challenge.

Now I have about 57 golden keys and not sure whether to try and get to level 50...

No, you have to raise the platform before it reopens.  If it's open when you raise the platform then the platform will get blown away and you can't get on it.  You have to arrange it so that you're already standing on the platform when the window reopens.

No, because it reopens in two stages. There's the first stage where the wind isn't powerful enough, so if you jump on the platform too early it won't go anywhere; it's right at the start of the second stage that you can jump on. What my method did was just delay the 'jumping on the platform' part long enough.

Alternatively, I figure you can close the window, dash over to the wheel and raise the platform immediately then climb the other bit and wait until you hear the second part reopening. I found it simpler to mentally time it by delaying the raising part.

If people did what you described they'd just stand on a platform that doesn't move high enough. Plus, that sequence of events would be considered even more basic than the puzzle already is. :P

I beat Thomas was Alone and played through it a second time with the commentary on (which I love on DVDs and think is a great idea for games that I've not seen before) I enjoyed the game quite a lot though I'm guessing a lot of people will have thought it was a bit easy as I thought it was perfectly pitched. I do feel slightly stupid in that I found the story quite perplexing.

Finished Tomb Raider and Thomas was Alone (free on PS+!). Didn't realise till waaaay in that the odd little squares were things I should be collecting. Making me trip over one earlier in the game would have been nice. Might download the DLC since I feel bad for not directly supporting the developer (or publisher or whatever).

If you want to collect the squares you should play through it with the commentary on - I found it interesting enough to listen to to play the whole game again, something I don't normally do.

Incidentally, does anyone know what happens if you buy DLC for a PSN+ game when your subscription runs out? Seems odd if you couldn't use something you paid for.

When you download Sleeping Dogs it makes it clear that you must own or be subscribed to the game to use your purchased DLC. It wouldn't make sense any other way. It's an add-on: No matter what you need the core game whether you buy it on disc, keep your subscription, or buy it digital.

Oops, I never mentioned I got around to finishing Blood Dragon. The story itself doesn't take too long to get through, so I did my best to dork around the island. Maybe after Blade Wolf DLC, I'll do a bit more.

Anyway, the last hour of the game was amazing! Gameplay, 80's music, and pixelated sassy times.

Beat the main Arkham City campaign a few days ago but I only got around to playing Harley Quinn's Revenge today. Was my first time playing it. It was alright. Nowhere near as good as the main game, but that's to be expected for such a small bit of story-based content, I guess. I'll gladly take something like this over more challenge rooms.

Also, I really enjoyed playing as Robin. I loved Rocksteady's design for him and thought it sucked he only ever showed up in that one short scene. His move sets is also pretty fun, wish there was a way to play as him in the main game.

Platinum'd Atelier Ayesha! *sits back Dream Kid style*

Going to go back and prepare for a New Game+ while tackling those adventitious post-game monsters. New Game+ will mostly be there in the event that I choose to get the DLC characters. I highly doubt I will, but who knows.

Overall, I'm happy with the game. I'd venture as far as saying it's the best Atelier game yet. Ayesha is no Totori, but as a game it's in a league of its own. It really is too bad about TK's fumbling incompetence. It's too friggin' bad. If NISA were still publishing and localizing the series in the West I really doubt there'd have been any problems.
