Torment: Tides of Numenera

I don't know if there are any fans of Planescape: Torment around here but having recently played through most of it, I am very excited about the recently-announced sequel.

And while there isn't much to discuss yet, the game now has a website! https://torment.inxile-entertainment.com/

Only some brief outline is available about the actual game, but there's also a section where you can vote on the kind of rewards you'd like to be available once they start crowdfunding.

I expect that it should do as well as the Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity Kickstarter campaigns, in the end. It's the spiritual sequel to a beloved old school game designed by respected veteran RPG writers set in an interesting new campaign world.

Us folks who were in high school or college back when Torment came out are now adults with disposable income we're willing to drop for a product we love but which mainstream games publishers wouldn't fund. That's why I pledged $75. Yet folks who just got the RPG bug can drop $20 and still help the game get made. I love Kickstarter for these sorts of projects so much.

Hahaha, this is awesome. Kickstarter fatigue, my ass. If it's a game people actually want, it'll get funded.

Has any kickstarter ever reached its goal this quickly? I wonder if this isn't going to break the record again. Looks like the current record holder for a videogame is Project Eternity at slightly under 4 millions (not counting Ouya since it's a console).

I'm a bit broke at the moment but I'll definitely try to back this one. I missed out on Wasteland 2 so the 45$ tier is very tempting.

I think it broke all the videogame goal records. It beat Project Eternity to $1.1 million by a day or two. Lots of $100-$500 backers for Torment because the original was loved by smart people, many of whom now earn decent salaries and are willing to pay that much for a video game if it's done right.

$1.5 million. Jesus. I might hop on board to see whats the commotion is about when I get the money. I'm retarded with money so I'm willing to throw my money at folks who I really think will treat their backers right. I might not like the final product but I am impressed.

A nice story would be nice.

New stretch goal has Chris Avellone joining in at 3.5 mil. Dream team just potentially got dreamier.

This is being called a dream team because the big players involved all had key roles in the development of some of the most beloved CRPGs. Games like Fallout 1 and 2 as well as PlaneScape: Torment and, I think, Icewind Dale.

Yeah, I think with veterans like these guys, it shouldn't be a problem. And like GOH said, most of them have specific roles anyway. If Avellone joins, for example, he won't be taking over lead creative duties or anything of the sort. This is still inXile's game and I'm sure he has his plate full with is duties at Obsidian anyway.

I have doubts they'll get $300k through paypal donations by the end of April, especially since the Kickstarter marketing/news blitz is over. If folks didn't have money in March, they likely won't have it in April. Donations will roll in, but I think the big money spenders have been pretty much tapped out.

On the other hand, I'm thinking about adding onto my donation via Paypal.
