Luftwaffles
And US drawing with Mexico in Mexico for only the second time. Honestly probably shouldn't have been a draw, there were a few questionable non-penalty calls.
Luftwaffles
The 2014 World Cup groups are out.
Mal
As far as the USA is concerned. They shouldn't get out of the group alive.
Luftwaffles
It'll be very interesting. It's got all the pieces to be a hell of a group. Portugal, who barely qualified, but always show up for tournaments, Germany who are solid, but have a super high expectations to meet and a somewhat questionable coach in Löw (who took over for the now-US coach Jurgen Klinsmann), and Ghana, who knocked the US out in 2010. It should be fun.
staySICK
Whoo hoo Sporting Kansas City. In other news, that name is finally growing on me.
danielpholt
Whoo hoo Sporting Kansas City. In other news, that name is finally growing on me. I kind of think it'd sound better without the City at the end. It's just too much name atm. Like AFC Blackburn Rovers or Manchester City Athletic. staySICK
...but Kansas City is the name of the city...
danielpholt
Doesn't make the team's name sound any less ridiculous.
TheMightyEthan
I think it's boring. I like other sports' style of team names better. Blackhawks or Celtics or Steelers, oh my.
staySICK
I'm still partial to the old name of the KC Wizards.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, see, that's the kind of name I'm talking about, where it's an actual thing and not just some bland sports-related word.
Luftwaffles
Whoo hoo Sporting Kansas City. In other news, that name is finally growing on me. That was a hell of a game. I'm really disappointed I didn't choose to drive down for it.
TheRevanchist
Well, it's World Cup time again, and soccer fans from around the world can unite to play a stupid musical instrument to annoy the world. The first game starts on Thursday while I am at work, so I am missing that game. Maybe I will take a long lunch and head to a sports bar to watch some of the action unfold, just enough to get me in the mood for the hot Brazilian action. deanb
Probably the greatest analogy about coverage about football (at least in the UK): http://www.reddit.com/r/britishproblems/comments/22osn0/as_the_fifa_world_cup_approaches_the_antifootball/cgpdacf (except I've an archeologist for a housemate, so she'd love this)
TheRevanchist
Man, the referees have been doing less than stellar so far. The Croatia-Brazil game had some questionable calls/no calls, and this game between Cameroon and Mexico was just as bad. Are all of the refs this paid off/this shitty? Mal
I'm not watching due to reasons but stuff still come my way like this: Beautiful.
TheRevanchist
That was a damn nice highlight. I was lunching at the bar watching the game when this happened. Flip pin' amazing! The pass was on the money and the replay from the other side of the field was even more beautiful in slow motion. Ballerinas ain't got shit on that guy. Luftwaffles
Heh, I was just wearing mine today. Also, what a fucking fantastic first game in the group.
TheRevanchist
Sure, I don't mind seeing the US win a game. However, I can't STAND the douchebags on ESPN blowing sunshine up people's asses. Even though the US won, give me better analysis than, "Dude, the game was won because of American spirit, Bro. Like, I'm going to drink some brewski and chant "USA" until I pass out." It's not an exact quote, but you get the idea of how bad the coverage was. Just terrible.
