Not sure how you can defend someone on their third offence. The annoying thing is footballers seem to get away with anything if they are any good at playing, with fines that sound big but amount to a couple of days wages for them, or bans that seem to mostly span off-season friendlies.

That seems to be the underlying truth, from what I hear.  Since he was the number one scorer (31 goals in 33 games), his stock is incredibly high.  So, if he parts ways with one team, he's going to make even more money elsewhere (sponsored by Bimbo.  Bimbo Because We are All Whores TM).  And, think of the dentists who would pay for him to advertise.  Toothpaste.  Toothbrushes.  Steaks that are good to the last bite.  Since he scores goals, he is entitled to score all kinds of dough.

This 3 or 4 month ban for this asshole is pretty much deserved, and, really, the best you can hope for with a grade A player.  A one-year ban would have been plenty, as well, but, with FIFA being about the bottom dollar, it wasn't going to happen.

I just came in here to see if anyone had posted a link to that lunatic's remarks. That's pretty desperate, even for her. I guess outrage hasn't been paying as well in 2014, and she needs to step her game up. I can't wait to see how low she winds up stooping before people finally stop listening at all.

It's amazing how much the US team is being coddled by the media, and I hear that UK media are similarly patronizing. It certainly was an admirable rally, but with the exception of a few players, they really didn't put on much of a show.

Speaking of those few players, this is for Tim Howard:

As with the movie this clip i from, his skills don't guarantee a win... Still though, what a night for him.

Howard had a good game.  He played all the right spots and didn't over-commit on any situations.  Dude was good.

The rest of the US team I can't say much about.  Jones seemed pretty acitve, but there were too many times I saw the rest of the team standing around instead of moving.  That won't win games.  Seems like they didn't really pick up their play until after Belgium scored, and even then there were lapses.

Belgium didn't look too good, either, though.  After shots, there was no one getting into the box to follow up with any possible loose balls.  And their shot selection was weak.  They still have a chance to win, but the odds are going to be minute if they don't mix it up.

But, the one set play that the US had on a kick was pretty.  A few zigzag passes led to a clean shot on goal. Didn't pan out, but a nice set play.

So Neymar for Brazil took a knee to the back during the WC match yesterday. As we see every match, a person goes down and is rolling around like a 2 year old who stubbed a toe. So, when he was on the ground, I kept thinking he was faking, because that is what they do for fun.

Turns out he has a broken vertebrae. But how the hell do you know? They roll on the ground like a little bitch looking for a yellow card on their opponent or a free kick. It's fucking ridiculous. However, the refs won't call anything unless someone is rolling around on the ground like a little bitch. It is a culture that breeds drama queens.

There was one play that a guy gets bumped on the shoulder, but falls to the ground holding his leg, and the ref called a penalty.

Anyway, I wish that guy well. Hope the damage isn't permanent.

Yeah, I thought he was making it look good too, and I still wasn't completely convinced until I saw his face as they took him off... Even then I didn't expect the extent of it to be that severe. I felt terrible when I found out though, just as the last game (congrats Argentina, btw) began. I hope he recovers as best as possible.

I thought that same thing. I wanted Messi to earn an award because he normally is a good player, but man he didn't perform all that much for the majority of this cup.

I have to say, this entire World Cup was very interesting, upsets around every corner (Spain out before they even finished the group stage!).

The final game was very meh though. Both Germany and Argentina were just playing possession and made very few attempts at strikes. I wasn't looking for a game with constant shots on goal, but I would've thought that by the end of the game they would have had more than 5 shots on goal.

First European team to win a World Cup hosted in any continental America, which is cool.
