Vecha
Got a ticket tonight...first since high school(last ticket in high school was "failure to yield"). Went through a light turning yellow...changed to red before I could make it...so, cop got me and gave me a ticket. Not looking forward to finding out if the ticket is $100, $200, $300 or more...What makes it worse is the main reason(not a good reason mind you) I ran it was the guy in front of me was going 10-15 mph under the speed limit, he slowed down even more as we approached the light, and frustrated 'ol me I ran it after him. I'm sure he was laughing his ass off once he realized I was getting pulled over. /facepalm.Trolls exist in real life too >.> Well...just thought I'd let you guys know Vecha can be a dumbass in real life too. So...anyone want to share their "traffic violations/criminal record"
Mister Jack
I went past a stop sign without making a "full and complete stop" once, which basically means I slowed down until I'm going less than one mile per hour, but it still wasn't stopped so I get pulled over. There was a bank nearby so I figure instead of blocking up the road like a dickhead I'll pull into the bank parking lot for all this unpleasantness. The ATM just happened to be nearby and the first thing the cop asks me is if I was trying to make a drop. A drop as in a bag of drugs. The answer I want to give is "Are you a fucking moron?" but of course you can't say that to a cop without it costing you so I just told him no. At the very least I didn't get a ticket.
CorgiShinobi
I have never been handed a ticket other than coming back to my car with a parking ticket because it was barely a foot in a "No Parking" zone. A few close calls, but I always get lucky. The most memorable for me was the residential speeding trap on the way to campus. One segment of this road was suppose to be reduced to 25 MPH while the rest was 35 MPH. It was a small segment, so it wasn't uncommon for vehicles to stay at 35 MPH. I was late, so I wasn't speeding the whole way other than that one part. Doesn't matter because that's where the cops would get you. So, myself and the car ahead of me were going faster than intended, and right behind me I saw flashing lights. I thought to myself, "Hey, you're bound to get a ticket sometime." I pulled over and... He passed me by and pulled over the car in front of me. As I sat there with a lucky break, a pedestrian who witnessed the scene turned to me and gave me a thumbs up. Vecha
I don't own a car and I barely know how to drive.... :/ Do you live in a city with decent public trans? I kinda envy you...If I could ride a bus/walk to my job in less than an hour, I'd do it. Though...I DO love road trips. It's the city driving with stop signs/traffic lights/non-passing lanes that aggravate me.
Waldorf and Statler
I've never gotten a ticket. But I've had two close calls with fucking over my driving experience. 1. Got pulled over by a state trooper for, and get this, going 5 above the speed limit when everybody else near me was going 8. I think the cop WANTED me to complain about that so he could say it's no excuse to speed and give me the ticket but I was respectful, I said I didn't realize I was going that fast that I was just keeping up with traffic. He saw my 0 tickets records and probably realized that if I took the case to court that I'd get it waived so he gave me a non-written warning. 2. I parked in front of an outlet mall-like place the street across from the building I had a class on. I was planning on just dropping off the hw and leaving but teacher surprised people with a pop quiz so I stayed for an extra 15 minutes. When I came back I decided to stop by McDonalds to get some lunch. Notice the McDonalds is INSIDE this area. Either ways that's another 15. When I come back a guy is about to leave with my car towed and I show him my receipt for McDonalds and, admittedly, BS that I was in McDonalds the whole time talking and eating. He says he doesn't give a shit and that once he's called the car is basically his to take. Which i call bullshit on the principle of somebody at the IHOP being a total dick as the parking space was literally EMPTY. Not a single fucking car besides the first couple of rows which is near where I parked. Fuck that shit. So I paid him right there and then, walked up to the IHOP and asked who got my car towed. One tiny fat asian girl was apparently the reason but she looked scared as shit so I just told her to think twice before fucking over a guy for no reason and, admittedly lol, BS'ed that I left for 5 seconds, turned in HW, and then hung around McDonalds. She said she was sorry but still. NOBODY FUCKS WITH THE WALLY. UNLESS THE WALLY ALLOWS YOU TO.
Mister Jack
I got pulled over once because my taillight was out while I was on my way to buy a replacement bulb because my taillight was out.

deanb
My gran has had a speeding ticket once, was a funny time. Also US doesn't have fixed fines? Over here (unless it goes to court where it's up to a grand) it's pretty much a fixed £60 for everything; speeding, skipping the lights, being on your phone, etc. (You also get points on your license and insurance goes up too mind, but that's not quite part of the fine) Personally I'm in the "don't drive" bracket, and yeah public transport and walking does me fine for most things. TheMightyEthan
Fines on local roads are set by local government, other roads the fines are set by state government, so while a lot of places do have fixed fines for various offenses it still can vary a lot from place to place. The same offense might be $50 in one city and $500 in another.
deanb
...and then there's the different sales tax on top of that too!
Waldorf and Statler
That'd be the first I hear of different sales tax. I thought sales tax was about 10% everywere.
TheMightyEthan
It's something like 6.5% where I live, where I went to college it was like 7.5%, and where I went to law school it was like 9% which seemed ridiculously high. All three of those places are in the same state. I don't know how other states do it, but in Kansas sales tax is set by local government (city and county) with there being a state-law maximum on what it can be. The local government is also the one that gets the money from the tax.
Waldorf and Statler
Damn. In Texas it's just 8.25% basically everywhere. If there IS a difference it's usually so minimal I guess most just don't care/bother to point it out.
