I freaking loooooathe Kings of Leon.

I don't understand why they're so popular - the singer sounds like he just swallowed a bag of frogs.

They were the headliner at this big music festival in San Francisco I went to, and now they're headlining one of the days at Coachella, that huge 'indie' music fest in Southern California.

I dunnn get it.

Hey, go listen to their second album, Aha Shake Heartbreak.

Their 3rd album onwards are the Kings of Leon you, and everyone else, know, for being huge stadium-rock assholes and having really annoying songs. Though a lot of people seem to like that stuff.

Aha Shake, for about two years from 2005 or so, was my favourite album. It's really incredible, has this magical energy, and almost every song on it is catchy and memorable indie rock/pop, rather than dull and repetetive stadium rock. Seriously check [old] them out. I can't stand them now, but they used to genuinely be my favourite band.

Great call! One of my Dad's favourite bands, he's trying to make us cover them in his band :P

I'm gonna whip out some Midlake here. Enjoy guys. (I'd recommend just listen to the song and don't watch the video, because while a good video, music video's always bias a first listen to a band)

Hmm, I can understand that. It's happened with a fair few bands.

Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity" is an amazing record, and I sort of feel the same about it.

I still think they put out some good stuff on each album, but they're definitely not going to match Clarity again.

Apparently, they 'got away' with that album at the time due to a lot less studio-tinkering.

That's what I thought too, but I'm pretty sure they recorded Bleed American pretty much by themselves, which was their mainstream breakout hit (although I still love most of it).

I was disappointed in Futures, liked the EP they put out, liked what I heard of their album after that, but I listened to a web stream of their latest and I was super disappointed - so many of the songs were just cheesy and blah.

On topic of Jimmy Eat World, has anyone heard Lapko?

They're a Finnish band that kind of sounds like a slightly heavier Jimmy Eat World.

I liked Futures. It was a bit more 'pop-rock' in certain ways but I think it had a good mix of tracks. They definitely have a real talent for writing quite succinct and powerful lyrics. The EP was good, but the album after that I felt was lacking in some ways; sounded just a tad too 'poppy' for most of it.

Their latest took a while to grow on me. Again, it has some really good tracks and some not so great ones.

But, yeah, definitely don't think they're going to capture that Clarity magic again.

I'm listening to the leaked ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead

sounds awesome so far

I meant to ask you, have you ever heard of Apollo Up!? (This reminded me because the guy in that played bass in AYWKUBTTOFTD for a bit)

Nope, any good?

Also yeah, I had no problem with futures, has a few good tracks on it. Definitely slower and poppier overall.

I really like them. I discovered them via Pandora (when it was available over here) through listening to Hot Snakes, I think.

Vocalist sounds a bit like the guy from Rocket From The Crypt (who was also in Hot Snakes) whereas it's got a pretty cool simple three-piece rock sound.

I think I've heard them described as Elvis Costello meets Hot Snakes. Which I guess is kinda accurate.

I might put some stuff up on YouTube because all I can find is live stuff.

It was Kansas Day.

KU beat K-State 90 - 66.

It's a day for some homegrown music.
