diedan
I'm feeling a bit nautical and in the mood for some minstrels, for which the cure is always, always The Decemberists. And now this: The xx - Crystalised...For the minimalist in all of us. slithy toves
explaining my desktop reminded how completely amazing cacophony is as an album. they should rerelease this bitch and give it away for free because it must be listened to, in it's entirety! it isn't quite a concept album, but really it must be listened to from beginning to end to fully be appreciated. i had a hard time picking just one track to post, it brings a tear to my eye.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-EBjGsy1Hw

I've listened to so many genres of music over the years: goth, industrial, hardcore, metalcore, math metal, black metal, death metal, noise, indie rock, folk, bluegrass, pop, hip-hop, blah blah blah blah, and yet I still can't get into punk. I don't know why. I'd really like to like it. It's just like the last bastion of genre standing for me. I think the closest I've ever come was listening to Atari Teenage Riot, which isn't even that close.  Speaking of which, this is great:

Mister Jack
Thanks. The funny thing about groups like Deftones, Tool, Nine Inch Nails and so on is that there are a lot of songs by them I don't like, but when there's a good one, it's DAMN good. Battra92
Saw them in concert earlier this year. They rocked! (they're also on the GTA4 soundtrack) Â
slithy toves
@dan i don't really believe you. punk rock is a broad enough spectrum that there has to be something you like that is punk. it is my new personal mission to find it  @jack all those bands you mentioned are bands that have been around for a while and have tended to evolve along a rather broad spectrum. i think that's the reason for the disliking lots and liking a few, because i feel the same way. i'm surprised that i get so many funny looks when i admit something like that. there are actually even days where i'll like some songs and not others that i liked the day before, with maynard james keenan stuff like tool, a perfect circle etc. especially. Mister Jack
Well I know they evolve, it's just that early or later, they all have stuff I think is crap and stuff I think is awesome all across the board.

Good luck? The only remotely punk band that my friend recommended to me that I liked I now can't remember the name of (and neither can he, unfortunately). But I think it was mostly just chaos, which is probably why I was all about it. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
diedan
A friend recommended this to me. It's the deathiest/softest death metal I've ever heard: Â Also, sometimes the dude wears a clock?/birdhouse? thing on his head: Â Faaantastic. I love stuff that tries to push genres. Good listen, it's been years.  You have probably heard this song:
diedan
Cool dude. I hadn't heard of Loma Prieta, but it really reminds me a lot of all the hardcore/emo stuff that was happening back in the late 90s. That was a huge part of my scene in high school. Good times. That or a bit like newer stuff like The Number 12 Looks Like You (who I adore). Â And Cloud Cult, yes, yes, yes. I think it's so great. I really love the new stuff. There's so Much Energy in Us is a brilliant song.
