madbassman39
Anti-heroes have been done to death imho but I'll give it a chance. I couldn't agree more, but I've always felt that SHIELD was neat because it wasn't one anti-hero, but a shady government program that coerces super-heroes into working for their program. Hot Heart
Sort of like Heroes' The Company but not surrounded by shit.
Waldorf and Statler
Maybe baby. I'll give the show a little bit of the ol' ultra-try-out, but something about it being on ABC is making me very wary. Like the show might start out good and then BOOM. HEAVY ROMANCE EMPHASIS. Â When The Agents of SHIELD must plan a Christmas party, chaos ensues when Britney and Justin don't know what to get each other... AND ALSO BRITNEY'S sassy little cousins come to visit! Don't miss a whole new Agents of SHIELD Snow-snowy special featuring one of the dead beat sisters of Sister Sister and Bob Saget as Santa Claus.
Hot Heart
It's Joss Whedon. Any romance will be followed by suffering and death.
Waldorf and Statler
Joss has confirmed that Coulson at one point will be flying the car and save everybody. Followed by a scene where he says "I am a leaf on the wind" and then... well...
TCP
That extended trailer was great. J. August Richards (Gun from Angel!!) must be Luke Cage! Where's Iron Fist? Also, anyone who thinks First Class isn't the best X-men movie is cray-cray.

deanb
Okay at least they took the piss out of the backronym. Wonder if they'll have ...dunno the name but the company that does post-superhero battle clean-up. Also there's the whole "Nick Fury is over a century old" stuff to cover. It'll be fun, and yeah it's kinda Heroes with a fair bit more cash thrown behind it.
TheMightyEthan
Okay at least they took the piss out of the backronym. Â They were making (subtle) fun of the name throughout all of Iron Man 1 as well. Â *Edit* - It's weird to see Coulson get mad, he's always so deadpan and unassuming. Hot Heart
I think Whedon made fun of the SWORD backronym in Astonishing X-Men too.
TCP
A female pilot who isn't Carol Danvers?! C'mon Joss Whedon! Oh and apparently that's Rage, not Luke Cage.
madbassman39
If you have the bluray of Avengers, give the Item 47 short a shot. I think thats what the show is going to play out like. Its a short that takes place after the New York attacks, and is a small case which SHIELD investigates.

TCP
Great first episode! Hopefully we see J. August Richards again as I'm a big fan of Angel and thought he did a good job in this episode. Good balance between tying things into the Marvel universe and having the show stand on it's own, the connection to Iron Man 3 was a good way of making it feel part of a larger universe but if you'd never seen IM3 before it wasn't like you' done confused. An interesting thing to note that is besides Maria Hill (and Coulson who's now in the comics) every character was original. I can see they might not want to use up a Luke Cage, She Hulk, or Daredevil on an unproven TV show but if this thing becomes popular enough maybe we'll see someone like Carol Danvers or Jessica Drew pop up. Another thing I know I've mentioned before, but I'd really love to see Thor/Captain America/Peter Quill/etc for just one episode around the time those movies open, could be a great way to promote the new films. But for now I'm happy with original characters. Edited September 25, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
deanb
Watched it today, was pretty decent. It'll be interesting to see where they're going with it. Extremis was a bit of a weird thing to go off, but I guess as you said it helps reinforce the tie with the larger marvel movie universe. Hopefully builds up something nice and solid and not being some freak of the week or just a vehicle to push the movies and keep them in your mind. TCP
Yeah monster of the week formula is my biggest concern. If they want to capture some of the crowd ABC had with shows like LOST, they need a strong season-long story arc, plus stand alone episodes. But for now, I felt as an establishing episode, it did a good job introducing all the characters.
Hot Heart
Yeah, it was pretty good. Bit of mystery behind Coulson's return, decent ensemble (and we all know Whedon is good with those) and a lot of potential. Some of the dialogue was a bit hokey though, and I think it could do with being a little less jokey, even if it was funny for the most part. Â Oh, without any superheroes around, Maria Hill did seem a little ridiculous in her jumpsuit. TheMightyEthan
Just watched the second episode. Â I am officially sold on the show.
Mr. GOH!
Really? Watched half the premiere and could not get over the half-hearted dialogue and acting, especially on the part of the hacker lady and the main guy. The whole thing seemed so bland.
TheMightyEthan
I wasn't 100% sold on the premier, the second episode was much better.
TCP
Definitely not bland or half hearted but there's some parts that are just a little too cheesy. I know it's based off comic books but the part with Coulson and the Peruvian lady shooting back to back just made me cringe. That said, it's got that great Whedon dialogue, likeable characters, and an awareness that most TV shows lack.
Hot Heart
Watching the second episode at the moment. It is very much a 'comic book on the screen' Â Also, Coulson earlier said to Skye, "An object of unknown origin. Kinda like you." Is that a double-whammy of sexism and racism?! Â EDIT: Finished the episode. That was good. Light viewing but still good. Cool to see the 'team' in action. Â ...I miss Firefly. deanb
It's enjoyable show. There's a couple kinds to work out, but I imagine they've more than enough time to work out the on-screen chemistry between themselves. Samuel Jackson gives hope to brief cameos from some of the other guys too, as opposed to just random nods to other Avengers films.
