Star Wars

I went into the film knowing most spoilers. With the amount of online drama I've seen, I had to know.

Glad to say most of it is loaded hyperbole. I guess I won't go over too much that's been said, but on the obvious points.

Luke was amazing and showed how people can change based on past failures and trauma. It's human and shows the fallacy in legends. I legit cried when, you know...

As for Snoke...

My ranking for the Star Wars films

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. The Last Jedi
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Return of the Jedi
  6. Rogue One
  7. Revenge of the Sith
  8. The Phantom Menace
  9. Attack of the Clones

And if you really want, the Clone Wars theatrical film would be the absolute worst, but we're all better off if we forget it ever exists.

So honest question; what did ya'll think of the Porgs?

I honestly liked them, which I originally thought I wouldn't. I much prefer them over Ewoks (Yub Nub to Hell). When I first saw them, I basically thought of space puffins. Turns out, the island is home to a crap ton of puffins as a wildlife preserve.

I liked the Porgs.  I know they're merchandise bait but I'm a sucker for cute critters, and it helps that they were just a background gag and they didn't take over the plot like the Ewoks.  They also weren't incessantly noisy all the time.

I'm also fine with them since the alternative would have been chasing a protected species from its habitat. (Or finding somewhere else to shoot I guess). So yeah. I'm team Porg (also team

Some communities I go to really hate TLJ in that if I voiced that I like it, I would be crucified. It's odd too since I totally go "MUH LORE" at times. Not so much TLJ since it does wipe the slate clean in ways. Being freed from the OT would be nice. Anyhow...

How do you all feel about Luke? And does Mark Hamil actually hate how Luke was portrayed?

I think a lot of Hamill's quotes about the direction Johnson went with Luke are taken out of context. I think Hamill came around to it.

Regarding Hamill's comments: Are they? He seems to me to really dislike what they did to Luke and then, either because of him being a nice guy or simple damage-control, he backed off. Remember when he literally said he was shocked and disagreed with everything Rian decided about his character? Not saying that what you said is impossible but Mark writing a formal apology after the fact seems err... bizarre.

About Luke:  I see what you're saying but aren't you forgetting something? Luke IS hope. The first movie was named after him. No matter how much of a buffoon he was he always saw hope in people to the point of dropping his lightsaber in front of the biggest menace in the galaxy. His drama with Kylo was so out of character which, adding insult to injury, contrasted even more by the presence of a Mary Sue and a sudden Mary Poppins.

Well, with LJedi failing miserably in China Shy-nah!, having the largest first-to-second weekend box office dollar drop in history and the Solo flick still not having a trailer -- not a single frame shown -- when it's supposed to come out in just a few months, I'm not seeing Disney going for the IX any time soon. They'll probably start dabbling with Alien or Predator in the meantime.
