Glad to say most of it is loaded hyperbole. I guess I won't go over too much that's been said, but on the obvious points. Reveal hidden contents I felt that for half the time Poe was reprimanded, and the other half they let slide. It doesn't bother me as much because in a sense the Resistance has bigger issues at the time Poe is acting up. But for example, after Poe's failed mutiny, Leia and Holdo (Vice Admiral) almost mother him by with "Oh, that's why I like him." That was the only Poe moment that bothered me. There's some nitpicks I had around the time of the transition when Finn and Rose get back. Most of my criticism is around the Casino Planet plot point. I thought of an alternative that reduces the time immensely. Forgo the whole damn police and jail time idea. Basically, Finn and Rose find Master Code Breaker douche, but he's not interested in such a high stakes task against the First Order. DJ (Benicio del Toro's character) on the other hand is willing to help them out as he lives for the challenge (and pay). Finn and Rose brush him off because he's not what they expected. Well, their ship has been towed because it was parked illegally and now they appear stranded while the Resistance is suffering. DJ enters once more and Finn and Rose at this point have to accept his help. He needs a distraction though, so we have our alien-horse scene like before which keeps the important bit of including the children and Rebel ring bit. Finn and Rose get chased, but DJ and BB-8 pick them up and they're off to the Resistance. No wasted 12 hours of in-movie time and we can spend more time on Snoke's ship. Finn, Rose, BB-8, and DJ needed to be on the ship longer in my opinion. This way, we could have had more Captain Phasma time along with BB-9E. All of that, along with the sudden "DJ betrayed us in under 3 minutes" aspect doesn't have quite the same impact. Also, Phasma gets the shaft again. (At least she's done more than Boba!) Luke was amazing and showed how people can change based on past failures and trauma. It's human and shows the fallacy in legends. I legit cried when, you know... Reveal hidden contents he past on into the Force in the setting twin suns, paralleling Luke's awakening in A New Hope. As for Snoke... Reveal hidden contents people like to forget that we barely knew anything about The Emperor throughout the entire Original Trilogy. We didn't even have a name, and both Snoke and Palpatine went out like punks! For all the theories people are trying to forge that Snoke is still away, just... No! He's dead! There was a corpse on that throne and I bet the stench of blood and feces radiated off his two halves. My ranking for the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back A New Hope The Last Jedi The Force Awakens Return of the Jedi Rogue One Revenge of the Sith The Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones And if you really want, the Clone Wars theatrical film would be the absolute worst, but we're all better off if we forget it ever exists. As I said in another post, the Jedi Temple in TLJ may open up the possibility he may be a turned "first" Jedi. Still doesn't explain where the hell he came from though. I much prefer them over Ewoks (Yub Nub to Hell). When I first saw them, I basically thought of space puffins. Turns out, the island is home to a crap ton of puffins as a wildlife preserve. I know they're merchandise bait but I'm a sucker for cute critters, and it helps that they were just a background gag and they didn't take over the plot like the Ewoks. It's odd too since I totally go "MUH LORE" at times. Not so much TLJ since it does wipe the slate clean in ways. Being freed from the OT would be nice. Anyhow... How do you all feel about Luke? And does Mark Hamil actually hate how Luke was portrayed? Reveal hidden contents He can see the light in his dad, who has done shit, but not in his nephew who hasn't done anything. Do you take it as an unexplained character flaw or more like a realistic one? Some people don't seem to buy the "moment of madness" argument. To me it makes Luke seem more human. I think Hamill came around to it. Reveal hidden contents Luke has always been a little bit of a fuckup and I read his crisis about his disgust with the dark still inside himself and his moment of doubt regarding Ren. I don't think Luke necessarily sees Ren as irredeemable; just that LUKE cannot redeem Ren due to Luke's self-loathing and the severe damage done to their relationship. It's all intentional by the writer/director. Whether he's evading because of the trick (illusions, Michael!) or whether he had really been there, it feeds into character and theme. He seems to me to really dislike what they did to Luke and then, either because of him being a nice guy or simple damage-control, he backed off. Remember when he literally said he was shocked and disagreed with everything Rian decided about his character? Not saying that what you said is impossible but Mark writing a formal apology after the fact seems err... bizarre. About Luke: I see what you're saying but aren't you forgetting something? Luke IS hope. The first movie was named after him. No matter how much of a buffoon he was he always saw hope in people to the point of dropping his lightsaber in front of the biggest menace in the galaxy. His drama with Kylo was so out of character which, adding insult to injury, contrasted even more by the presence of a Mary Sue and a sudden Mary Poppins. ______ Well, with LJedi failing miserably in China Shy-nah!, having the largest first-to-second weekend box office dollar drop in history and the Solo flick still not having a trailer -- not a single frame shown -- when it's supposed to come out in just a few months, I'm not seeing Disney going for the IX any time soon.
