deanb
https://www.google.com/starwars/ If you have a proper Gmail account (as I've found to my disappointment not a Google for Work account) then you can do some stuff with Google services by "Joining the Dark/Light side". Not super sure what so far, apart from new tabs have screens from the film in them now. edit: Youtube loading bars are lightsabers. edit 2: This is a pretty well done remake. I imagine having the Navy dollars to play with helps.
TheMightyEthan
TIL that the graphics of the new Battlefront look better than the computer animation added to the Original Trilogy re-releases:
Mal
Regarding The Clone Wars (I'm close to starting season 5), the upcoming trilogy and the Dark Side. In the spoiler, I may be mixing up Canon and Legends material. I also might get rambly. Is Darth Maul going to be in the new trilogy? He is alive. I'm unaware of Sidious or Vader ever hunting him down after the rise of the Empire for maybe because Maul was considered too weak to be considered a threat to the Sith like how the remaining Jedi (e.g., Obi Wan) wasn't considered a serious threat. In the new trilogy, with Sidious and Vader gone, there are no living official Sith Lords to guide Kylo Ren. Kylo follows the Dark Side but has nobody to teach him of the Sith ways besides Maul. The only other alternative is some Sith holocrons. No matter how you dice it, Kylo is a weird character. He's force sensitive but attuned to the Dark Side. Like what is his end game? The revival of the Sith? He's no Sith just like how Ventress* is no Sith. Maul and/or holocrons are the only way for him to be a true Sith. Maul actually was Sidious' apprentice. Maul is strong enough in the Force/Dark Side to survive getting cut in half and get thrown down a deep shaft. A third alternative is, I guess, I need to wait for this Snoke character to be revealed... this leader of the New Order. Maybe Snoke was a Force sensitive assassin to Sidious. Still doesn't explain Kylo's sloppiness though... *She is also alive I think? She just likes to be a bounty hunter but I need to confirm that with reading Dark Disciple. I also don't think Dooku ever taught her real Sith ways.
deanb
It'll be interesting, but I doubt they'll bring it in. I imagine JJ Abrams will have dived into EU for a bit of a looksy and potential inspiration, and maybe watch the show too (though it's quite long at this point) but I don't think they'd bring Maul back. From a film perspective he's dead (even if from official Disney continuity he isn't, since Clone Wars is one of the few non-film things given the thumbs up) but not everyone will have seen that (I watched the cartoon, but not much of the 3D stuff so while I know Maul isn't dead I've not seen the particular episodes). Also he was "killed" in Phantom Menace, which at this point is like 60+ years ago from VII. I'm not sure Abrams would be diving into prequel territory too much. It's sort of tainted. (also a quick check and Peter Saro*mumble* isn't listed as being in Star Wars upcoming) Anywho was reading a good point this morning that the only folks that know the truth about Darth Vader are either dead, or Luke & Liea who as heroes of rebellion against Empire might not want to go "oh yeah, he was our dad, and he was good in the end and killed the Emperor". Would play better for them to keep parentage secret (folks think she's Leia Organa anyway, and know Lukes dad was killed in Order 66 as one of the Jedi) and not mention the whole redemption thing and play off as Luke killing both, and Rebels blowing up Death Star. Which probably what leads on to: 1. Kylo not being aware Vader redeemed himself in the end 2. It not being "Rebellion" but "the Resistance". Likely a schism in leadership over certain finer details. I believe Leia n Han are no longer together, which might be a "hey, remember that time your dad froze me in carbonite. Good times".
Mal
I know it is a really tall order to go through 120-ish episodes but I highly recommend The Clone Wars. I suggest watching in regular or modified chronological order. I'm current watching release order and while good, it leaves something to be desired since dead people keep on popping up. I also think a chronological order viewing will make the connected story arcs that much better. You can view each story arc as a mini movie to help guide a viewing. Really, related story arcs can be considered a full movie. I recently rewatched TPM and it totally felt like a story arc of one of the earlier seasons aka kind of bad but serviceable which I pin to how prominent Jar Jar is. After the first two seasons, it just pick up steam which just gave me the last eight episodes of season 5. Do it for Hondo and Ventress-Savage-Maul arcs! Now onward to season 6, the rest of the the prequels and then onto Rebels. After Rebels is the OT. I think I can finish in time for TFA and surely by Rouge One. Mal
Release. Main reason why I just went release but now that I have watched 5 seasons, having dead people stay dead would be nice. This show really likes to show dead people following the episode where they died. If you are using a computer here's a list with links. An alternative version without links. Note, I watched this on my TV with my Roku, prior to having my Steam Link. If I have the Link, I would've used that. I actually skipped the movie but maybe you shouldn't since it introduces Ahsoka (Anakin's padawan). In other words, god damn is Anakin pure cringe worthy in AotC. It's the way he talks and ultimately comes off as. I don't remember much from RotS but I expect a drop in Anakin's maturity after I finish watching The Clone Wars. CorgiShinobi
The Clone Wars is so good once it picks up steam from the first couple seasons. Not to say those early seasons are bad, but the quality you get from the later seasons is what makes The Clone Wars memorable. Star Wars Rebels continues the trend and it's so awesome to have Ashoka and Rex back! The only thing that bothers me, at times, is how chill Ezra and the others can be when thousands of Imperials have died as a result of their escapades. Take the latest episode, though I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it.

Were they intentionally made in a non-chronological order, or is this one of those things where the network screwed it up after the fact? deanb
I'd guess looking at that list linked that it's sort of intentionally done. Some of those have multiple series out of order which wouldn't be a network screw up (like Fringe Fox put an episode in the wrong order and you're like "but that side character got shot and killed a few episodes prior!". Which is a very Fox thing to do *coughfireflycough*). No clone wars on UK Netflix though (and yes I know Hola but it's hit n miss, decided to stop working midway through my watching Better Off Ted)
TheMightyEthan
I just looked it up, and yeah it was actually developed out of order for some reason, not just aired that way.
Mr. GOH!
Don't watch a dumb kids' show, Ethan; I mean, if there are two seasons' worth of bad shows, it's not worth it. Instead, watch the real Clone Wars series, which was, incidentally, the best non-interactive Star Wars media produced after the 1980's. It's also only 2 hours long, so you're not forced to sit through endless nonsense. https://youtu.be/XVk9lPotcW4 Edited December 1, 2015 by Mr. GOH! deanb
Yeah it's kind of annoying there's two shows about the same thing but with two different storylines and two different styles. Oh yeah totally wanted to share this. Mr. GOH!
At least one is clearly better than the other so discerning consumers of pop culture can avoid the dumb one.

Mr. GOH!
It has Jar Jar Binks in it. Now you have heard an overwhelmingly negative thing that should discourage you from watching it.

CorgiShinobi
Reasons to watch CGI The Clone Wars: Kickass Clone Troopers More Jedi Knights Sith Shenanigans (I wish I could spoiler this...) Badass Obi-Wan Anakin struggling with the Dark Side is actually interesting (versus the movies) Space Pirates Bounty Hunters Mandalore: Story of Tradition vs Progress Likewise, Death Watch Yoda gets schooled by the Force itself General Grievous gets his ass kicked a dozen times and it's great Count Dooku is still an ass, but one you love to hate Some movie character cameos That was just a quick list, but yes Jar Jar appears in a few episodes, primarily when he's part of a story arc involving kidnappings of Force-sensitive children. Some space princess only trusts him and wants to ride his Gungan dong.
deanb
So I've been reading the Empire stuff for this, and will do a longer write up later when home, just some of the cool stuff from the various interviews given. But on story itself two sort of "spoilers" have cropped up in the Empire stuff namely: Minor character reveal: The interview with the prop guy they've got out of retirement mentions about how cool it was to see Admiral Akbar pop in, so he's in this KOTOR stuff: So there's the new official canon map included in Empire. Mentions Rakata Prime, which is home of the Star Forge, so seems that's kinda canon. Wonder if it would play into things at all. Force Awakens stuff: the map also shows "Starkiller Base Origin", which super implies it moves around. Which I guess isn't a surprise, Death Star did too, but this is much bigger (I think). Oh and this isn't too far from the above place... dun dun dun
Mal
Considering we don't know what Snoke is, those spoilers could work. And oh yeah, I picked this up. What I really like about TCW is that it builds on the Star Wars universe so much. Having Anakin becoming likable is just a plus since the acting in TRoS is still shitty.
Mr. GOH!
With regards to Snoke, can't believe I'm spoiler tagging this, but what the heck: I don't think he's Rakatan. Or, if he is, they won't look like they did in KOTOR or related media. Snoke's design was changing throughout production and Serkis's performance reportedly affected the final decisions about how Snoke would look. It's possible, but unlikely, he's Rakatan, and I highly doubt JJ Abrams and Disney would just keep the Rakata weird fish-face with eyestalks on the side design. The Rakata look more alien than sinister, I feel.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I agree, the KOTOR Rakata look more like a random alien you'd see in the background in a cantina or the bridge of a ship than a species you'd want for the bad guys. I don't feel like that really warranted a spoiler tag, but I figured if everyone else is jumping off a bridge...
deanb
Probably best in the run up to me more conscious of spoilers. That said I do disagree on Snoke being Lukes Step-Father. Yeah I wouldn't expect to be Rakata, but maybe something related. KOTOR was a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away) for Star Wars universe, can be other folks in that area since. Another theory is he's one of the original Sith, like the species. And that "I will finish what you started" while overlaid on Vaders helmet in the trailer is actually spoken in the film to Snoke
