Mister Jack
In this case the controls were literally right there on the screen and he still couldn't figure out how to jump properly for a minute and a half. If employers these days can demand five years of experience for an entry level position then I don't see why it's unreasonable to expect a games journalist to know how to play games. I'll amend my previous statement slightly to say that basic competence should be a requirement to be a professional reviewer. If you suck this much yet you still get paid for it (probably more than I do) it kind of pisses me off.
deanb
I've seen a lot of discussion on this, and the general consensus here is that the tutorial is fucked up. And likely you'll find the launch game will have a tweaked tutorial. That video was clearly not a case of "hurr durr doesn't even know how to use a controller", which you'd think from some reactions (especially IMC) was the case. Mike Bithell of Thomes Was Alone/Volume: And a thread from Tom Francis of Gunpoint/Heatsig (so you'll need to click through). I would say with others too that if you have some super high end gamer type as your game reviewer then your reviews are all going to end up shit since they'll smash through any obstacle; you'd never get a review discussing unnecessary difficulty spikes or complex controls etc. There's a lot of masturbatory "but games must be Souls-hard" type tweets going around too. If tutorials were simple things to shit out you wouldn't have all the essays written on how good the Mario and Half-Life/Portal tutorials are. (I will say that years n years n years ago iirc, I did rip into him in a review of Space Marine that claimed the design was a straight rip off from Gears of War. But that's nothing to do with gaming prowess and more to do with limited knowledge of britsh based wargaming franchises)
toxicitizen
Looks like the rumors were true and Okami HD is indeed coming to PC (and PS4/X1) in the near future! And that's one less reason to keep my PS3 hooked up. Between this and the recent tease that the first Ni no Kuni might be coming to PC after all there's honestly not a whole lot left. There's like one Tales of game and a handful of PS2 classics. The former I'm not sure I even want to bother at this point and the latter I'd probably be better off hunting down physical copies. I love collecting PS2 games and they'd probably run much better emulated on PC. Edited September 8, 2017 by FLD 1
toxicitizen
Aaaaand confirmed. Coming December 12 for 20 bucks. 2
TheMightyEthan
Holy shit, only $20? Disappointed they're not bringing it to Switch too though. I get that it's not as powerful as PS4/Xbone, but there was already a PS3 remaster they could use.
toxicitizen
Didn't it also have a Wii port at some point? I'm pretty sure it could run on Switch just fine, they probably just felt it wasn't worth the extra effort.
TCP
If they do eventually port it to the Switch I hope they leave an IGN watermark on the cover like they did for the Wii. 2
CorgiShinobi
I got it for the Wii, and I cherish the IGN watermark cover! Actually, got one of the replacement covers Capcom sent out way back. Like, you had to wait for them to send it out to ya, and if I remember correctly, it took quite some time before anyone got their's in the mail. It was basically the PS2 version with motion controllers and the absence of the paper filter that was originally used. I still immensely enjoyed and think the motion controls added to the experience. Wonder if you can use Move for the PS4 version. Wait, does Sony remember Move?
TheMightyEthan
Fortnite has turned on Xbone/PS4 crossplay. The interesting thing is they didn't announce it, it just happened. Given the previous issues between MS and Sony getting that turned on, there's speculation Epic just did it without permission. That could make sense, if they're banking on MS and Sony each not wanting the bad publicity of being the one to nix it, so just letting it continue. Other developers have said it's super easy from a technical perspective, it's just the company policies that have been preventing them. toxicitizen
Zone of the Enders 2 getting remastered with 4K and VR support. Was initially announced for PS4 only but it's apparently been confirmed that it's coming to PC as well. It's no MGS but I'll take it. ZOE2 in particular was pretty cool. Sucks that it's only the second game, though.
Mal
How I feel about Konami after they announced ZOE2 remaster. Tribute in the form of giving money for ZOE2 remaster on PC. Fucking a, what a predicament...

TheFlyingGerbil
I'm thinking of getting rid of my gameboy/GBA games, GameCube and games, PS3 and games, XB360 and games, my Wii games, and Wii U and games. Many of the games are unplayed. I can tell myself as often as I want that I'll play them but they've all sat there untouched once i crumble and buy into the next gen too soon. I should maybe point out that I gave away my N64 and games to a friend when he went to university, and while I think about it sometimes I do not believe I regret the decision - but I was never really attached to my N64 as I am to some of my GB, GC and Wii games. What do you think? The only compromise I can think of is to keep a few of my favourite games as a memento but is that stupid if I have no console to play them on? Mister Jack
Unless you're holding onto them for collector's or nostalgic purposes, there's not much reason to keep those old consoles these days. Spoiler Especially when you can just emulate everything anyway.
Mal
I keep copies of games that I have no legit way to play. Hell, at this point some of the PS1 games may be corrupting as I typed this. If not now, for sure by the end of this decade. By the end of the next it will be the PS2 games turn. deanb
http://www.d4toys.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=426_463&product_id=658 So if you have $288 you can grab a fully articulated "Ludens" toy, the skeleton dude from the Kojima logo. toxicitizen
Why are none of you playing Opus Magnum?! It's so good! I mean, all of Zachtronics' games are great but this is probably their most accessible one yet. You don't need to learn any programming language and it's (so far) simpler than even SpaceChem. It even has a built-in gif generator to show off your terrible solutions! That last one gave me way more trouble than you'd think just by looking at it in action... Mister Jack
Man, there are some PC ports out there that are beginning to require ridiculous amounts of space. My copy of Doom is up to 67 GB after updates. What on earth is making it take up THAT much space? The entirety of Witcher 3 only takes up 49. Putting that aside, Nioh and FFXV both require a staggering 100 GB of space. In this case I feel like 4k textures are probably to blame, which makes me wonder: why aren't they optional downloads? Is there some technical reason that isn't possible? I would be surprised if there is, and I feel like they should be offered as a separate download in order to save space for people who don't need them. There aren't very many people out there yet who even have 4k monitors, let alone the rigs to run high-end 4k games. It's just too expensive right now. TheMightyEthan
Lots of games have done an ultraHD texture pack as free DLC, so it's obviously possible.
toxicitizen
I'm guessing it's not just textures but also stuff like uncompressed audio and whatnot. Devs probably feel compressing those files isn't as necessary on PC. The main problem with Doom is that most of that is the multiplayer. I kinda wish they did like Call of Duty and had two separate apps in your Steam library. The campaign was amazing but I don't give a shit about the multiplayer. But yeah, it seems a little ridiculous sometimes. I just bought Mortal Kombat XL and the download is 45GBs. I mean, it's a fighting game... TheMightyEthan
I've noticed in recent years I don't have the desire to go back and play games again anymore. As a result, I find myself holding off on any game that's going to get singleplayer dlc so I can just get the whole thing at once. I can't help but wondering if this attitude is related to the recent apparently decline in the sales of singleplayer games.
