Judgment, that Yakuza spin-off, is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X and, uh *checks notes* ....Stadia.

That's right, it's skipping Steam (for now) because of a Stadia exclusivity deal. Also, in other Stadia news today:

I'm not even mad. The timing of this is honestly hilarious. Enjoy the three copies you're going to sell, Sega, I guess...

If you are shutting down your in-house studios, then third party exclusives are exactly what you want/need. It's what MS did with the Xbox One when they were paying for exclusives like Tomb Raider due to a dearth of homegrown titles.

In terms of money, Google will have thrown some cash at SEGA or given them a minimum guarantee for the privilege so I'm sure they will be fine. Plus, this is almost certainly a timed exclusive, so SEGA might as well take a lump of cash up front from Google now, and then more from Steam customers later.

Given Google's history with just kind of losing interest in anything beyond its core services, I think them shutting down their internal studios is pretty much a death knell for Stadia. In the same announcement they said they're looking at licensing the tech out to other companies, so I think that's where they're planning to go with it, not really focus on providing a direct service themselves.

Yeah, that's why I said it's only skipping Steam for now. There's no way this is a permanent exclusive.

Yep, this is what makes the timing of this hilarious. Announcing an exclusive the same day they essentially announce the death of the platform.

Yeah, glad I got mine already...

*Edit - although I'm guessing the console manufacturers already had their orders locked in for at least the first year or so. And this isn't a production issue, it's just that demand has massively increased, so there's no reason the chip makers can't fill existing orders.

SENRAN KAGURA LIVES! Kinda... as a crossover with the Neptunia series... In a game for PS4.

Oh well, I'll take what I can get. :P Seven still toast though. :P

So there's more tweets and more to the article but basically Days Gone 2 isn't happening despite the first game being profitable and, uh, Naughty Dog has taken over a remake of Last of Us 1. Apparently that remake was started by a small team in 2018, a whopping 5 years after the game first launched...

If this is true then someone at Sony is smoking crack because holy lol. I can't imagine a more pointless waste of money than remaking such a recent game that was remastered just a few years ago. Like, is anyone seriously asking for this?

I didn't say it wouldn't happen, I said it shouldn't happen. :P

Honestly, maybe I'm just getting old but I find the entire concept of video game remakes to be so fucking pointless. Unless we're talking something like FFVII where the original is two decades old and looks like hot garbage even for the time, then sure. But anything remotely modern I just throw my hands up and wonder what the point even is. Like, I don't need a remake of Resident Evil 4 because I find Resident Evil 4 perfectly playable to this day. Demon's Souls was kinda borderline because the original was a fucking mess visually, even for a PS3 game. But something like Last of Us or Bloodborne is honestly just baffling to me. Like just do the most basic remaster imaginable to get the resolution and framerate up and like... what more could you possibly need? What a waste of time and money lol.

I agree, really. In Demon's Souls case I think it really needed that remake because I hated the original game and all of its inconveniences, but by and large I just want 60 FPS gameplay and maybe some updated textures. A 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne, maybe a remaster, would be more than enough for me.

Bloodborne remake doesn't sound so unlikely anymore does it?

But still this sucks. I would much rather have Days Gone 2. I'm pretty much done with The Last of Us entirely. I've lost interest.

I'd say it sounds more unlikely. :P I mean, I love Bloodborne, and would love to see it get a 4K60 patch, with those sweet load times and whatnot, but the article mentions Sony is much more interested in its giant blockbusters, GoW, TLoU, and the like, Bloodborne doesn't fit among those IMO.

Demon's Souls was a surprise, but the original did need some love, graphics weren't the best, even for its time (particularly character faces), and load times were hell for a game were you would be dying over and over and over in the same areas. The new graphics are awesome, and those loading times make dying a non-issue as you're back in the game not-quite-instantly but close enough to not be annoying any more.

RE4 definitively DOESN'T need a remake, or another remaster/HD port/etc., it still holds up, both graphics and gameplay wise, and it's not like I'm just remembering it fondly, I only just went through it (again), a couple of weeks ago. :P Anyone that says it needs a remake should check it out again, it holds up well, now Code Veronica or Outbreak... :P

In terms of how a TLoU remake might have killed DG2... I don't think I've ever hated a game I've never played before, but here we are. :P Bend seems to be finally free to work on something of their own, but it looks like it's going to be a new thing, and since some key figures left the studio in 2019/2020, I don't see it being a Days Gone 2. :(

Fair point, but Demon's Souls is hardly a blockbuster either so I guess it'll just come down to demand and how willing Sony is to listen to it. I would be more than happy with a performance patch but if it hasn't happened by now I can only assume the only way we're getting it is with a remaster.

RE4 definitely doesn't need a remake whatsoever but I admit I would play an upscaled 4K/60 FPS port at least.

I didn't mean to suggest the remake killed DG2, sorry. The two are unrelated. Days Gone 2 was simply never greenlit. Although, it sounds like Bend has basically turned into a Naughty Dog support studio, Activision/COD-style. So uh... yeah, about them being free to work on their own thing... maybe not.

Nah, all good :P, I got that more from the article, seems like the first DG2 pitch got rejected, then, instead of working on changing it, or presenting different pitches, Bend got shoved into a couple of other projects as an ND support studio, effectively ending the hopes of a sequel, unless they're actually working on it now, that'd be a nice surprise. :P
