CorgiShinobi
So, how about that Stadia? Personal opinion is that we're not quite ready for cloud streaming for video games yet. Not saying it can't work, but I can't see a majority of customers having good enough Internet service to make use of the service. Heck any amount of input lag would eventually make the experience grating, though it's quite the power move to advertise Doom Eternal. It would be cool to stream AAA games to my Chromebook, but then why would that ever be my main source of gaming? If I'm traveling I can't trust the ISP or the bandwidth that either the hotel has or one of my relatives.
Mister Jack
I really don't understand why they bothered. Google of all companies should know that we are not ready for this. Even if you are one of the lucky few to have a fiber connection, which is pretty much the only way this can reasonably work, streaming games uses 20 GB AN HOUR. A lot of people still have to put up with data caps from their ISP. No way they're going to use a streaming service that can use up to a tenth of their data allotment in just one hour. TheMightyEthan
I don't have fiber, just cable internet, and Project Stream was super playable. It felt just as responsive as playing on a local console. Granted, that was Assassin's Creed, which is only 30 fps on console, so I don't know how it would translate to a 60 fps twitch shooter like Doom. The bandwidth usage shouldn't be that terrible either. It's the same compression as Youtube, and according to this site at 1080p Youtube uses 3GB/hour, at 1440p it's 5.5MB/hour, and at 4k it's 14GB/hour. So yeah, playing at 4k could burn through some bandwidth, but 1080p isn't bad.
Mr. GOH!
Where do people have data caps on their cable or fiber ISPs in the US? I have never had one and I've had cable internet in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, DC, Virginia, and New York.
toxicitizen
Holy shit. Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and even Detroit are coming to PC O_O Exclusive to Epic for a year, though. But honestly, if their deal actually played a part in making the ports happen then I can't say I'm really bothered. I really wish they'd use that Fortnite money like this rather than "here's some money to not release your PC game on Steam". Hell, if they can get Bloodborne on PC I might actually not wait out the exclusivity period and just double dip once it hits Steam... TheMightyEthan
@Mr. GOH! I theoretically have a data cap, but it's 1 TB/month and I've never used more than about 1/3 of it. It's also a soft cap, so it doesn't actually cut off or throttle my speed, it's just if you go over too often they make you pay for more data. @FLD Yeah, I don't like how they're paying for store exclusivity on things that were already coming to PC, but if they want to pay a dev to bring a game to PC that wouldn't otherwise come then I don't begrudge them exclusivity for it. So the Quantic Dream games are cool, but I'm not happy about Outer Worlds and Control.

I love Remedy and it was gonna be their first game in a while that I didn't need to wait out some exclusivity period for. Also, if Epic are paying to make ports happen AND still only requiring a year of exclusivity then that's honestly really cool. I still won't use their shitty store but I have to give credit where it's due. edit: Damn, son lol Edited March 20, 2019 by FLD 1
CorgiShinobi
My folks live in Idaho and their plan through their ISP was 300GB per month. Then it was upgraded to 600GB and then recently they were given Unlimited. Which is both a positive and a negative. On the plus side, they're not going to be charged for going over a limit. The negative is now they watch 700-800GB worth of streamed television and movies. Retired folk and what not. Doesn't mean their bandwidth is any better and the router is definitely capable of more. I also suspect their ISP throttles, but at the same time it could just be the ISP being crap when traffic hits. toxicitizen
Not exactly a huge surprise considering the teasing and ARG weren't exactly subtle but Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is getting a sequel! Guess I'll need to go back to the original and finish it this time.
Mr. GOH!
FUCK YES. I played the hell outta V:TM - BL back in the 00s and since one of its lead writers is on the job, along with a raft of other talented folks, I am looking forward to the successor! toxicitizen
Lol. Fallout 76 sales and Rage 2 pre-orders must've been abysmal on their launcher. And after all the controversy surrounding F76, they must be desperate to gain back some good will. Now to wait and see if they lose it all again by taking Epic's money! Mister Jack
If they wanted good will they would have promised to never allow Fallout 76 to appear on Steam.
MetalCaveman
Saw DOOM Eternal there and thought it was the release date announcement.
toxicitizen
Yakuza Kiwami 2 rated for PC! That was faster than I expected. Especially considering that financial report or whatever from a while back that seemed to suggest they were planning on porting Yakuza 6 next. I'm really glad that's not the case because even though I want them all, I have no interest in jumping right to the end of Kiryu's story. SEGA usually move pretty quickly with these, so hopefully an official announcement isn't too far off.
toxicitizen
The teasing has begun! Their publisher page's avatar was changed to a Kiwami 2 reference. They usually like to release quickly after teasing, so Kiwami 2 might be coming much earlier than anticipated. Kinda surprising since Kiwami 1 came out just a couple months back. I was personally expecting an announcement at the PC Gaming Show like last year. Hopefully this means they have something bigger and better for E3. Not sure what that might be exactly but personally I'm thinking maybe a JRPG of some kind???
toxicitizen
Goddamn, they're getting faster at this. Yakuza Kiwami 2 coming to Steam May 9th, pre-order is up now. Also Octopath Traveler on June 7th, for some reason. I mean, cool and it looks really nice but everything I've heard points to it being super underwhelming so uh... yeah. Mister Jack
It occurs to me that barring any delays, we have four samurai games coming out this year from four different publishers. I'll probably play them all, too.

Yeah, I don't think either Ghost or Nioh have confirmed dates. I just listed all the samurai games I could think of.
deanb
Seems kinda interesting, clearly in the concept stage still, I wouldn't trust the bare sockets as they are now. Not 100% sure on the use case of this mind except some travellers maybe. I guess being USB powered does mean you only need the one power socket. Shame it's replicatable by pretty much any small "raspi" type screen. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2055222119/topo-gamepad-mountable-screen-play-anywhere
TheMightyEthan
I'm confused where they think you might be that you'll be able to set up your PS4 (or whatever other device) but not have a screen to connect it to...
CorgiShinobi
So my Xbox One controller broke this afternoon. Not of my own doing, but straight up the left bumper hinge fractured. I was fighting the final boss of Sekiro on NG+ and I noticed my guard and deflects were randomly not working. Thought it was the game, but I looked down and the left bummer was popped out. I looked into it and it seems to happen. So sure, I could try to super glue it or order a replacement part, but at this point I'm thinking I'll get the Switch Pro Controller. I had that adapter where my Xbox One controller could work on all current platforms, but I learned that quite a bit of games on the Switch rely on digital triggers and not analog triggers. Anyone use the Switch Pro Controller for their Steam games? Anything to be aware of?
