TheMightyEthan
Hmm. Well one benefit is that I was thinking of getting the Switch version (mostly for mobile play, but also the extra content), and under ordinary circumstances this would have made me hesitate but the fact it's just a port of the Switch version means I can still get that one without feeling torn. toxicitizen
Sekiro getting a free update out of nowhere! Nothing major but this will add a boss rush mode, some alternative outfits and something called Remnants, which sounds a lot like the player ghosts from Dark Souls only you have control over what gets recorded and sent. It's kinda weird to get an update after all this time. I wonder if this is what's left from a cancelled DLC or maybe something they came up with for Elden Ring that they decided to add to Sekiro for some reason. MetalCaveman
https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/splinter-cell-animated-series-netflix-1234612535/ Splinter Cell getting an animated series. The writer from the John Wick series is attached to the project as writer and producer. I'm hoping they'll keep the stealth/infiltration stuff, but I'm also pretty sure they'll make it more actiony than that. Hope this means they're thinking about bringing back the games. TheMightyEthan
Probably they'll go action-infiltration, like Mission Impossible.
Mister Jack
If they do bring back the games I want to see more Chaos Theory, less Conviction. 1
TheMightyEthan
Oh definitely. Blacklist was okay, but the originals were definitely better. Though honestly I think my favorite was Double Agent (the PS360 version, I don't remember what the OGXbox/PS2 version was like, except that it was different). Mister Jack
OG version was actually much better.
MetalCaveman
I liked Conviction, but the first one is my favourite, Chaos Theory was pretty fun too. \m/ \m/

I played both, because I didn't get a 360 until later, but that's the only version I really remember.
Mister Jack
Definitely. Aside from the graphics, the OG version was better in almost every way. More content, longer levels, better online, and arguably even better writing.
toxicitizen
PS2 Double Agent didnt have the new stuff of the next-gen version but the actual game was way better. It was basically more Chaos Theory. Next-gen Double Agent was... not great.
TheMightyEthan
What didn't you like about next-gen Double Agent? I've replayed it a couple times over the years (although it's still probably been close to 10 years) and I've always loved it.
toxicitizen
To be honest, it's been so long that all I really remember is being pretty disappointed with it when I finally got around to playing the PS3 version. I loved the PS2 version and was pretty hype to play a version with all the actual double agent stuff in it but I thought it was just kind of okay and never felt like replaying it. I can honestly say I liked Conviction more and actually replayed that one a few times lol. I'd probably be down to give it another shot since it's been so long. I wonder what state the PC version is in. Pretty sure I must own it on Steam. --------------------- As for the reason I came here in the first place: Spider-Man is exclusive to the PlayStation version of the Avengers game. And just like that I go from "completely disinterested" to "holy FUCK I hope this bombs". What a garbage fucking move lol.
TheMightyEthan
I mean it sucks, but Sony owns the Spiderman license, so... I'm shocked to hear you liked Conviction better. I like Conviction, but it's a very different kind of game. As far as the PC version of Double Agent, PCGW says it's still full of game-breaking bugs... toxicitizen
Oh, well nevermind then lol. And yeah Conviction took the series in a direction I didn't like but I still enjoyed it for what it was. I'll always prefer a proper stealth game but a dumb action game with a stealth focus is still up my alley. I just had higher expectations for Double Agent, especially as the sequel to Chaos Theory. I didn't hate it or anything, it just didn't really do much for me. I thought Conviction was better at what it did, if that makes sense. As for the Sony/Spidey thing. They had a whole exclusive game, they could've allowed the character to be in all versions of this one. It's not like it would've hurt them or anything. Microsoft owns Minecraft and last I checked it's still available on PlayStation. I can't see this as anything other than Sony being shitty simply because they can, kinda like how they had to be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing crossplay. Mister Jack
Thank god the mongols only have a handful of these archers.
TheMightyEthan
Semi-related: the archers not always calling their shots like they're supposed to was one of like two complaints I had about the combat in that game. It gets especially irritating once you get the thing that requires you to get kills without taking damage.

TheMightyEthan
And I sold my copy... Not as bad as it could be. If it had been singleplayer DLC I'd be pissed, if it had been competitive multiplayer I wouldn't care at all, but with it being cooperative multiplayer I just care a little. toxicitizen
Don't know if you guys have been following the recent Epic legal drama but if not, short version is that Epic introduced their own payment method for Fortnite bucks to circumvent Apple's and Google's rules and fees and promptly got booted off both of their stores. They conveniently had lawsuits ready to be filed, so this was clearly a calculated move on their part. Essentially: And turns out Apple is having none of their shit lmao Challenging the walled gardens of companies like Apple is clearly not a bad thing but I just don't have it in me to root for Epic. And not even because of my dislike of the EGS. They're neither the good guy nor the underdog here. They like to frame things as them fighting for a better status quo but Tim Sweeney is a massive hypocrite and clearly just thinks he should have access to those platforms without having to play by the rules. So this is just hilarious to me.
TheMightyEthan
Apple is the second most profitable company in the world, against them everyone but Saudi Aramco is the underdog. But yes, as much as I dislike Apple I don't really have a lot of sympathy for Epic.
Mister Jack
Yeah, I've heard about it. Gosh I just don't know who to root for because I care about both sides so much. Edited August 17, 2020 by Mister Jack

True, it's all relative. But Epic is still big enough that its CEO is a billionaire so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 5 minutes ago, Mister Jack said: Yeah, I've heard about it. Gosh I just don't know who to root for because I care about both sides so much. While Apple losing is objectively the better outcome, I'm not rooting for either of them. I'm just enjoying the bloodshed. Worst case scenario, Epic takes a massive hit. Oh no... Besides, it's hard to root for someone that's so clearly acting in bad faith. And that's not even getting into how fucking gross it is to co-opt 1984 imagery and manipulate/weaponize their fanbase of children.
Mister Jack
Also this lawsuit seems like a foregone conclusion. Epic willingly and knowingly broke the terms of their agreements with these companies in order to...what? Force a lower rate? Force them to open up their platforms? Either way, they agreed to give Apple 30%, made billions off of it, and only now have decided they don't want to do it anymore. As much as I hate Apple, they're well within their rights to take down the app. But hey, I'm not a lawyer. Maybe the actual lawyer here has some insight? Yeah, I'd love to hear Ethan's expert take on this. It seems like an obvious bad faith tactic that should get thrown out but I have no idea if that's actually how it works legally. Tim Sweeney comes off as a delusional asshole but surely Epic has competent legal counsel advising them here. As much as I'd love to imagine Tim Sweeney making this insane legal maneuver that is guaranteed to fail, there's just no way that's the case lol.
