I think pretty much anything from the PS4/Xbone era, even really early games, just needs a 4k60 patch and call it good. They don't even need "remastered" per se, let alone remade.

Stuff from PS360 era could stand full remasters, but remakes still seem like overkill.

Completely agree. I get that there is an aversion to risk and that you remakes/masters are a way to mitigate that risk by polishing a successful formula and minimising costs, but it is artistically bankrupt to do so.

Demon's Souls was good, as was FFVIIR. Things like the RE1,2 and 3 that update gameplay for modern tastes make sense. "Remaking" just to make something already pretty shiny even shinier just feels like a waste to me.

Woah, those Great Ace Attorney games that looked like they were never going to get localized actually have been and are coming to Switch, PS4 and Steam.

Out of nowhere but that's great news. I had assumed the first trilogy collection hadn't done too well since there's still no word of another one for Ace Attorney 4-6 but hopefully this is indicative that it'll happen eventually.

Humble Bundle is kneecapping charitable donations. Maybe they should change their name to something else like Insincere Bundle or Token Gesture Bundle.

Who could've possibly seen this coming? This is completely out of nowhere and oh wait...

Toys 4 Bob is now a Call of Duty studio. While I guess it's a good thing they weren't all laid off, this fucking sucks. I had a great time with the Crash remakes and I absolutely loved the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. I even liked Crash 4 when it wasn't pissing me off. I was hoping really hard for a new Spyro next but I guess it won't be happening now because Activision is ALL CALL OF DUTY ALL THE TIME. Literally, I don't think the Activision side of the company is making anything except Call of Duty anymore. At least I can't think of anything else.

Yeah, the really shitty thing is that Crash 4 actually sold really well, it made them a lot of money, it just wasn't CoD levels of money.

Is CoD even making CoD levels of money anymore? I haven't been paying attention for a few years now but last I heard it was in sharp decline. Did it start growing again or at least stabilize somewhat?

God I hope that's true. Activision put all their eggs into that basket and I want it to crash and burn. I know that seems impossible but nothing lasts forever. There WILL come a day when it runs out of steam.

- FY2020, CoD franchise drew in $3bn revenue, there are about 35 sovereign states that have a lower GDP than this franchise.

- Q1 is up 40% year on year.

- Call of Duty as a franchise is not "one game" any more, it's a mix of Call of Duty: [Annual Title], Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, so it's not as much of an "all eggs in one basket" thing as the headline suggests.

Also, Activision Publishing, Inc. is not just Activision. It's Activision, Blizzard and King. So there's also WoW, Overwatch, Diablo, Hearthstone, Candy Crush, Bubble Witch all in the stable.

Not sure if that is aimed at the situation or me, but either way. *shrug* Them's the breaks.

At the info you posted, not at you personally. I didn't realize CoD had bounced back so much. Like I said, last I heard it was in decline but it's been a few years since I paid any attention to the franchise.

So there was a Dragon Quest 35th anniversary livestream and they announced a bunch of games including Dragon Quest XII. But also a remake of Dragon Quest III done in the Octopath Traveler HD-2D art style!

I was hoping for something like this from basically the second they initially revealed Octopath so I can't wait to get my hands on this! I mean, look at it! It's perfect!

And I hope S-E understands that this means I now expect a Final Fantasy VI remake done in this style.

Every generation must experience this so I expect this in full 3D in my lifetime (I really want to see Amano's designs really shine).

This is still such an awesome intro.

Hopefully we'll see a sort of "natural selection" where studios that don't crunch continue to thrive and those that do are punished at the tills. Sadly, I don't think most consumers know/care about crunch and so it will only happen as a result of actual humans burning out and shipping broken products (as happened with CP2077), which is not ideal.

The most frustrating thing with crunch is that regardless of morality it's objectively stupid, and private corporations are supposedly rational, so they should never use it. All the research shows that after two weeks of crunching you employees' productivity is actually lower than if they'd never crunched (as in they accomplish less in those 80 hours/week than they normally would in 40), and it requires more than a year of normal work schedule to get back to pre-crunch levels of productivity. So if your crunch is going to last longer than a fortnight you'll actually finish faster if you just don't.

I know you know, but... Corporations are absolutely not rational, that's definitely one of those "greatest trick the devil ever pulled" things. If publishers were rational, they would stop doing the "Our game set in [the Cold War/post climate apocalypse/corporate dystopia] is completely apolitical." mental gymnastics.
