Mister Jack
http://youtu.be/7dZrwslwM4Q So, this game is going to be out soon. I dunno if anyone else here was keeping an eye on it but I, for one, can't wait. Not only have I always enjoyed this genre, but I've been itching for a good couch co-op game to play when friends visit. Here's your thread to discuss the game, whether it's the game itself or the controversy we keep hearing recently about certain character designs.
Saturnine Tenshi
I was until I saw the asking price. Just doesn't seem justified given the type of game it is. Seems more based on the art and it being published by Atlus. I could commission some decent art for $50!
Mister Jack
Well, to be fair, we don't know yet just how much content this game has like alternate paths, multiple endings, or other things like that. Maybe it WILL have enough to justify 50 dollars, but I can understand how someone might be reluctant at first glance.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Odin Sphere was a long ass game for how little content there was. Could be the same here.
Saturnine Tenshi
For me it's less an issue of content than the genre to begin with. I never got too far in Odin Sphere, FDS. I tried it (literally) on five different PS2s and with two copies of the game. The notorious framerate issues were too much for me. I am generally into cooperative experiences, which is why I was looking at this game to begin with. It's just that $50 is pretty steep. Mister Jack
The framerate was why I never finished Odin's Sphere too, but I think if they'd made it into a PS3 game instead of a PS2 one then I would have. This one should hopefully not have those problems.
MetalCaveman
I've been following it for a while, I think it looks pretty cool so definitively looking forward to it. Not excited about the price though.
Mister Jack
I got this game on the PS3. While it's a little dumb that online play is locked until you play it for a while, I really like everything else. Even if you're alone, you can find the bones of adventurers that you can revive into AI allies, so you'll rarely be completely alone if you don't want to be. I am playing as the elf right now because my friend intends to be the amazon, and while I wasn't sure if I'd like being an archer I'm actually having a surprising amount of fun with her. The game kinda feels like a D&D campaign thanks to the minimalist story and the presence of a narrator who does pretty much all the voices outside of shop dialogue and battle cries. On another note, I have yet to run into any framerate issues. Edited August 6, 2013 by Mister Jack
Faiblesse Des Sens
While it's a little dumb that online play is locked until you play it for a while I love when games do this. It makes you learn the game first. As long as it's not so ridiculous as having to complete the whole entire campaign. IIRC Killzone 2 did something like they where they locked out game modes (like the objective based ones) until higher levels.
Mister Jack
I don't know when it unlocks. I've done about five dungeons now and still don't have it.
TCP
Can you play online with Vita players if you're on PS3 and vice versa?
Mister Jack
Sadly no, but you can transfer your save between the two.
Saturnine Tenshi
I'll be waiting for a considerable price drop for this one. Price and co-op unlock are too much for me for something like this.
CorgiShinobi
Same, so maybe around the $20-$30 range, and if there's nothing else... Oh, wait, I'll probably have a PS4 at that time!
Waldorf and Statler
Played this co-op with friend for a bit today. We had so much fun. We made the dwarf black, called him Leeroy and basically all his messages re Leeroy based. Also japanese voice because it's awesome. My favorite character by far because I can grab shit and throw it. He might let me borrow his Vita with his Vita copy [he bought both vita and ps3] so we can play co-op while we're in separate cities. True bros like that are once in a lifetime edit: nvm apparently there's no cross platform. Mister Jack
That's the one major complaint I have with this game: lack of cross-platform support, be it cross-buy or cross-play. You can import your save, but you have to buy two separate copies of the game before you can even think of doing it. So that's kind of disappointing. Still, if you can look past that it's a great co-op game. I'm probably going to beat it soon. I've been playing for around 20 hours, give or take. That's just on my elf, mind you. I fully intend to try the other classes.
Waldorf and Statler
It's a fun as hell game. We played co-op today for about 4 hours. 'Twas a merry time. I'm going there later to play some more and watch SNK
Mister Jack
I haven't even finished the campaign with my elf and I ended up starting a fighter tonight because I was playing with a different friend. Long story short, we started at level 1 and by the time we were done for the night we were at level 24.
Waldorf and Statler
jesus we barely reached level 15 on two days. to be fair we had other friends to hang with and other preoccupations like families and birthdays.
Mister Jack
Well I had played through about 90% of the game with the elf prior, so this time around I knew what I was doing. The first time it took me longer.
Mister Jack
Beaten the game three times now. I can blow through normal mode fairly fast now. Haven't moved up to hard mode yet, though. For now I just want all my characters to get their level cap raised. I feel like there should be a list of commandments for multiplayer games that gets displayed whenever you join a lobby. Something like this: 1) If someone is eating, let them finish 2) Don't hog all the food like a dick 3) If someone is trying to uncover treasure or cast runes, then quit moving the camera around, douchebag 4) If there's a wizard in your party, let him deal with all the wooden boxes and barricades 5) If there's a sorceress in your party, let her deal with bones if you don't really need them 6) YOU CAN'T HURT THE WRAITH UNLESS THE CANDLE IS LIT. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, PEOPLE! 7) DON'T WAKE UP THE DRAGON UNTIL ALL THE LOCKS HAVE BEEN PICKED
