Saturnine Tenshi
I think I replied to the wrong thread.
Thursday Next
Correct thread. Just a little off topic. Presumably referencing the MS tweet about Minecraft being exclusive to Xbone. Then clarifying that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is exclusive to Xbone.
Saturnine Tenshi
Oh, yeah. I guess I didn't see a page 2 at the time.
deanb
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-10-29-titanfall-will-remain-exclusive-to-xbox-one-360-and-pc-forever Microsoft has confirmed that it still has a blank chequebook. Hooray! I'm kinda curious how it's going to work with PC given MS are getting rid of GFW and GFWL. Also it seems Respawn weren't wholly in the know that EA had gotten an exclusive deal with MS until recently which I'm sure will make them feel very cosy at their new home. edit: mindfart. EA. which means Origin, not GFW. Edited October 30, 2013 by Deadb

CorgiShinobi
Signed up and to my surprise Mass Effect 3 on PS3 had given me an Origin account. Actually, it mostly did as I had to "recover password" to access it through the client.
Mercurial
Well this is great. I got a Xbone code instead of PC and the EA help site keeps giving me a 502 error.

Faiblesse Des Sens
Isn't the beta going public anyway? Xbone tonight, PC tomorrow. It's probably doing that because of this issue.
Mercurial
Well I got my PC code now. You'd think for such a large company EA would have better servers.
TheMightyEthan
No company's servers can stand up to the initial tidal wave of users on something as hotly anticipated as this game. It's just not economical to build that kind of capacity when it won't sustain itself.
deanb
Ehhh... I'd have fully agreed with that statement some years back, but with the amount of bulk-buy-server-capacity companies popping up, of which Amazon is king of the hill and recently specifically targeting games, it shouldn't be that hard to outsource some of the initial capacity to keep things smooth for the first week or so. TheMightyEthan
I said it wasn't economical, not that it wasn't possible.
deanb
You said it's not economical for the dev to build that kind of infrastructure, which is true and once upon a time it's how you'd have had to do it. No studio is going to build twice the amount of needed servers to fit initial capacity then not use them for the rest of the games time. But with the many cloud server services around many businesses offload their surge in traffic to other servers. It's true of any business, it's why the hire sector exists. Though in EA's case given they're a large company with a fair chunk of online games and services you'd think they'd have bulked up their servers somewhat to cope without the need for on-the-fly outsourcing. However given their frequent turn around on closing MP for games, I think they're purposefully keeping their server capacity as slim as humanly possible and suffering all the shit storms that comes with it (SimCity being the major one)
TheMightyEthan
I didn't mean physically build, I just meant acquire/provide/whatever. Have in some fashion.
CorgiShinobi
I didn't get much time to play the beta, but I did get in enough time to get use to the game. The only thing that bugs me is the above and how seemingly easy it is to gain multiple Titans in a match.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It's got fucking Titan in its name! "It's too easy to gain multiple pokemon in Pokemon Y."
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, a big part of their design philosophy is that everyone will get to call in Titans, no matter if they're doing well or not. And they want the Titans to respawn quickly enough that you're not afraid to lose yours.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I just use mine as a distraction anyways. And if you can't take down a Titan you're a bitch.
CorgiShinobi
I'll explain, lest I fall prey to insurmountable wrath. I haven't been paying too much attention to the game, so from what I understood I saw the Titans as special vehicles that everyone would eventually pilot. That's true still, but the Titan is more like another personal weapon with a cooldown. No matter what, you'll wait two minutes and you can call in your selected Titan from earlier. Thing is, you don't necessarily have to wait that two minutes if you can kill a couple of bots. The better you play, the more Titans you can potentially drop. It all comes down to preference then, to drop now or wait, and a few matches I played practically my entire team were roaming around in their Titan at the same time. It was cool, though I felt bad for the other team because it was slaughter if any of them thought having a Titan could handle four of us. Like, four Titans can make a new Titan explode in around three seconds. You're better off on ground with rodeo attacks and a good Anti-Titan weapon. You're not in God Mode in a Titan, though some of the abilities can be deadly if you team up with other Titans. TL;DR Tiiiiiii-taaaaaaaan Faaaaaaaall! Gotta drop'em all! TITANFALL! So, while I'm still posting: Thoughts on the AI?
Mercurial
I think the AI is fine. Maybe make the spectres a little scarier.
deanb
So. Titanfall is 50GB. Turns out 35GB of that is ausio of many languages and flavours uncompressed http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.844223-Why-does-Titanfall-require-50GB-of-space

Mr. GOH!
I refuse to buy any game unless it includes uncompressed audio files for all the major languages of the world. I mean, what if a visiting Frenchman or Chinese wants to play my copy? I have to be hospitable and change the audio language to accommodate my guests! And it would be the height of rudeness only to offer them compressed audio; might as well just mute the damn thing if compressed is all that is available.
