Faiblesse Des Sens
I find it hilarious that people are complaining that the audio is uncompressed. You mean the sound quality is incredible? What an utterly shite game! Lazy developers! The only thing to complain about here is the languages thing but tons of games are like that. Mal
Goh, your attempt to be hospitable will fail with me since I'll be offended if your Chinese audio files are not in Cantonese.
Mr. GOH!
Well, it's stupid to require everyone download every language. From the thread Dean linked, it appears that Origin does not let you have the option of downloading and installing only specific audio files. Malicious- I do my best to make sure I have Cantonese, Mandarin, Min, and even Hokkien Chiense language files, if I can. Just don't ask me what the differences are between all those moon-man languages.
deanb
Yeah the fact the French sounds amazing isn't going to really placate the folks downloading and installing a 50GB game with languages they barely know. Which is yeah, lazy developers (not to mention it's a game not an opera, it can afford to trim the fat on the sound files). Origin does some stuff Steam doesn't, like Twitch support, but many obvious things are missing.
Faiblesse Des Sens
So they're lazy because of a shortcoming of Origin? wut
Mal
Someone is being lazy and needs to get their act together. From what I've read, the beta didn't have people to download all those audio files. At the very least, someone must have noticed that people will be downloading 30+ GB of audio files that the end-user won't be needing. Hell, it would be nice to hear something like that they'll do something about this or even tell us to fuck off but not like I've checked since it isn't important to me because I'm not getting Titanfall. So perhaps they did address it (I haven't heard of anything though).
Faiblesse Des Sens
From what I've read, the beta didn't have people to download all those audio files. Bull. Fucking shit. There was 10GB of audio files in the beta. I knew I should have saved my damn screenshot.
Mal
Is it the same audio files but compressed, a select few that are uncompressed or something in between?
TheMightyEthan
Probably it's just the ones that go with the levels that were in the beta.

TheMightyEthan
1) If your computer can't handle decompressing audio on the fly (something all games do) then you almost certainly don't use it to play games anyway. 2) That still doesn't justify requiring 57 different languages always be installed.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Fuck you, I want to freely switch between Swahili and Polish whenever I please. And as for the first one if we're talking pushing a game to 60 instead of just hitting 30 then I think optimization truly does help.
deanb
Though pretty sure most Valve games running on Source hit like a billion fps anyway without being uncompressed audio and on the core front were built for single core, cos back in the da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-day multi-core systems actually caused hiccups up until Portal 2/CS:GO updates. If they're planning on dedicating an entire core to playing the sound something is up
Faiblesse Des Sens
This is a game targeted towards lower end users and not just everyone with a bitchin' PC like those of us that post here.
CorgiShinobi
I decided to be an odd duck and pre-ordered a physical PC copy. Came with three DVDs, and even if they're all dual-layered, I don't think I'm going to have 49GB of data installed. As I type I'm on the second disc right around 89% installation, so even if Origin told me I was going to have that much data, I'm going to check how much I actually have installed afterward. EDIT: Well shit... The game itself was installed, but Origin initiated the "Titanfall Audio Installer." I feared this because as I was waiting, I read from people online saying that even if you removed the audio files, Origin would update the game and install the audio once more. Update: It updated the game and UNPACKED THE AUDIO A SECOND TIME. Edited March 11, 2014 by Atomsk88
deanb
Not really like you need "bitchin' PC" to process audio. Having a game that's 60% audio just screams to me that someone has fucked up somewhere and audio definitely won't make the difference between 30 and 60fps. When was the last time any of you heard of sound cards providing a noticeable performance boost? Especially compared to the likes of an improved CPU or GPU. Audio processing is normally a task with minimal load on the CPU, 1-2% at worst. Most of the frame rate hits will be in the graphics and physics and with those it's normally the uncompressed textures that decrease performance. Mal
Would 35 GB of textures be real life?
CorgiShinobi
So after playing it for a couple of hours yesterday, these are my impressions. It's a very addictive multiplayer experience that benefits in being to the point before and during a match. I kind of find it funny how just the multiplayer is called "Classic" when really even in the Campaign all you're doing is playing multiplayer. I'm not a fan of unlocking what I would consider more "basic" gear, but once you're up a few levels, you should be able to hold your own fine. Yeah, maybe you're not in your preferred layout, but you should still be able to kick butt. Speaking of, the Grunts and Spectre bots are a bit derpy. Don't fully underestimate them as its still possible to be killed by them, but they really serve more as cannon fodder for your weapons. Thing is, it's during these enemies that you'll probably learn more about the combat. It's a bit deeper than you might realize, like how you can hack enemy Spectre to fight for you, or the different tactics Titans can serve on the field. I actually killed an enemy Titan with my Titan drop! I'm definitely going to play more tonight, but how many of you guys actually have the game now? I've noticed barely no one speaks in the lobby or in-game. Of all the matches I had, I had two people talk: mic static from one, and a "Ha" from another. deanb
So because of the way the Titanfall campaign is made you can play through it all without firing a shot. As Tony has done here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL23pr4pMnexygNzUhS6xVi_hllGuIltv5 He found out though you do at least have to walk, or it kicks you for "inaction". Just kind of strikes me as a bit weird/sloppy in designing an FPS game that you can "beat" without actually shooting anything. Obviously MP elements means an aspect of unpredictability, but it's surely not too hard to try and force the players hand somewhat to actually participate and shoot stuff, or at least not reward them with "beating" the level for doing nothing? For one it must be surely infuriating to other team members that someone on your team can do nothing and the game doesn't do anything against them for it. Anywho, videos are only a bit over an hour all told, so if you're wanting to see what the Titanfall campaign is then here's a movie to watch. deanb
http://store.steampowered.com/app/292060 In a grand stroke of Genius, while Titanfall is on Origin (for obvious reasons), Geoff Kieghley has put the "Final Hours" interactive book documentary thing on Steam. TheMightyEthan
I saw this and it made me want to play Titanfall again, and then I remembered that I'm still waiting for my Xbone to get back from the repair center.
danielpholt
I saw it on sale for like £11 on PC if that helps? I enjoyed my brief time with it (Game Time), but not enough to throw down £40.
TheMightyEthan
I've already got it on Xbone, I can wait two more days.
