Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows

OK, so I've always been a big fan of TMNT. They've not had a stellar track record with games (and the old ones only really survive on nostalgia), but this looks pretty neat and will be on PC as well as consoles. Figured I might as well make a topic for it.

It's your typical beat 'em up, so it's not going to set the world on fire or anything (and setting the world on fire is not a good thing. Ask Billy Joel), but I like how all the turtles will be present at the same time even in single-player, allowing you to switch between them. That should spice things up a bit, I think. Otherwise, co-op is always good fun.

Funnily enough, they've made these character trailers...except they only show off one turtle at a time, which works for that purpose but risks obscuring what I think is a cool feature.

Here's the video that first got me interested, showing off all turtles at once and talking a bit about the actual gameplay

And here are the character trailers so far:

Alternatively, here's Giant Bomb's page on the game. Which also includes some new images (mousers!)

I'm actually quite fond of the look they've chosen for the turtles, as it hews close to the original comics, plus the art style itself is pretty cool and less cartoony than older games. The only thing I would change if I could, is the nostrils being so visible like they are, but it certainly doesn't put me off the game in any way, obviously.

UPDATE:

Release date is 28th August for PC and 360, and 24th September for PS3.

Some very rough footage of the game, though it gives a decent idea of what to expect.

Yeah, I'd only seen the gameplay videos from this thread and I just assumed it was a AAA release.

So, if I'm getting this right: the 3D combat is a survival mode kinda deal and the actual meat of the game is a side-scrolling brawler in the style of the old arcade games?

The trailers I've seen seemed to focus on the 3D side of it so that's why it didn't occur to me that this might be a smaller game. That last video you posted is the first I hear of the side-scrolling part.

Nah, there's actually more to it. So, it seems like a fairly large game.

There's the main story mode - comic book-style cutscenes and all - that features online co-op for up to four players (with AI controlling spare turtles) which you can see in this video (that I edited into the original post at a later date). Survival mode is that same 3D combat but in one arena.

And the new thing, that even I wasn't aware of, is that side-scrolling arcade mode, which allows for local co-op in the tradition of the older TMNT games but with the same combat mechanics. It was just a focus because the guy was eager to show off this new thing.

So, yeah, that's pretty cool as well.

I would prefer it if this were scientifically accurate ninja turtles.

This is the part where we talk of turtle dicks!

Half the length of a turtle ain't it sick!

If you see a turtle's toothless grin!

That's probably because his dick can touch its chin!

SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE NINJA TURTLES!

Gamespot Developer Walkthrough

Some cool things:

- You can pick enemies up off the ground to beat on them some more rather than wait for them to get up (first time I've seen a beat 'em up do that). Alternatively, taunt and it keeps your combo going.

- Attacks are automatically contextual  i.e. killing mousers means low and stomping attacks, fighting robots means going for dismemberment, explosive robots means throwing them away from you

- An option for stealth kills

Not cool thing:

- Seems the PC release date is the same as the PS3 one due to Summer of Arcade exclusivity.
