Mal
I wear glasses so those sort of headsets (Xbone) kind of annoys me. The PS4 one is also kind of annoying (I don't like muffled sound in one ear) but I'm quite sure in the current gen we can toggle where the voice chat output is so the next gen should have it as well. I like my chat to come from the TV so I suppose the earpiece is optional. Win I suppose. Lose for those chatting with me.
deanb
Thing with PS4 is don't have to use the bundled mono headset, it's still bluetooth compatible like the PS3, so any bluetooth headset you want to make use of will work. Whereas, well good luck finding a micro-USB headset.
Thursday Next
Bluetooth or 3.5mm jack. Besides which. Not too fussed in any event. The mono headset looks serviceable. What's next? Shall we compare the HDMI cables bundled with the consoles?
Mr. GOH!
The bottom line: both consoles suck, buy a gaming PC.
Faiblesse Des Sens
The bottom line: both consoles suck, buy a gaming PC. An equivalent (in performance, not specs) gaming PC is going to be much more expensive for another year or two.
Mr. GOH!
It'll have way more games than either console, however,
TCP
Yeah! Just like current PC's are enjoying Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, Halo, and the upcoming GTAV.
Mr. GOH!
Well, when late-in-the-cycle great console games are released late in the cycle, then it might be worth buying a console. I did not miss much the last cycle waiting a few years to buy a 360 and almost six years to buy a PS3.
Mister Jack
The thing that bothers me is that now that next gen games are all going to be on bluray, you'll probably need to invest in a gigantic hdd or constantly delete and reinstall your games. With bluray discs holding up to 50 GB, that could quickly become tedious.

TheMightyEthan
Yeah, my Steam folder is on a 3 TB drive. Â Not really an issue.
Mr. GOH!
Yeah, games are huge. But hard drives are cheap and also huge. Biggest issue folks will face, whether on PC or on a next-gen console, is how long it will take to download a game.  Edit: And, of course, whether you'll hit a bandwidth cap, if you have a shitty ISP with bandwidth caps.  Any word on whether Sony or MS will allow pre-caching of donwload games before release? Waldorf and Statler
In the discussion of HDD's, I can't remember but I can swear Sony mentioned the PS4 will allow for interchangeable harddrives as it seems to be just a regular laptop one. If that's the case you can buy a 1TB hard drive and install it. My issue is if changing the hard drive voids the warranty.
TCP
W&S, yes, that's the case with PS4 as well with PS3. It's my understanding that it does not void the warranty.
Waldorf and Statler
Yeah I just read a bit more and if Sony themselves are mentioning the ability to change hard drives it would mean it's not warranty voiding.
deanb
To be fair there's only a handful of games that've hit the 50GB cap. Most of it is from having lots of FMVs and such on, so hopefully with visuals being better they might not bother with as many pre-rendered shiny 1080p (or 4K) footage. But you never know. Â And it'll be more of an issue with the Xbone given the HDD isn't user replaceable so you're stuck with external HDDs and who knows what limitations they'll put on it. Â No word on pre-caching buy my understanding is both will allow you to play as you download. (Which Last of Us was a trial run of)
Faiblesse Des Sens
MGS4 had a lot of uncompressed 7.1 audio before they actually tried to put it on a disc. I think they just ended up compressing it a little bit.

Xbone also has a provision that a certain amount of playable content has to be available after a small(ish) download. So with either console you won't need to DL all 30gb to start playing. Faiblesse Des Sens
Â Pretty certain that PS4 allows playing while downloading. Â Â That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about downloading the game several days before it comes out and then decrypting it at release which is what Steam does. Thursday Next
In practical terms, what's the difference? You can play immediately in either case. Â I inferred from "pre-caching" that you meant that content was streamed and cached. Rather than downloading in advance of release.
Mr. GOH!
It's interesting to hear that the next gen consoles will stream, but not necessarily pre-load. The functional difference is that streaming requires some sort of decent connection speed (if it allows for anything near *immediate* play), while you could pre-load on a crappy connection, so long as the pre-load starts a few days before release. I also tend to think that having hundreds of thousands of folks streaming a game at once would be tough on the hosting servers. But I'm sure Sony and MS have that all figured out and there won't be any major issues with release day streaming services, nope, no issues at all, it will all be good, because Sony and Microsoft surely have everything under control. Trust Sony and/or MS, is all I'm saying.
deanb
Isn't it just the PS4 with a streaming service. And with that I'm pretty sure they've already acknowledged it won't be around for launch.
Thursday Next
Incidentally, I don't know if they will have pre-loading or not. Clearly the PS3 is capable of it now, since you can install a "trial version" and then download a 100kb unlock file. Instead of a trial you could just download a totally not working version. So it stands to reason that both PS4 and Xbox One could do the same.

And with that I'm pretty sure they've already acknowledged it won't be around for launch. Â PS4 is the only one with a game video streaming service (Gakai). Â But both allow you to begin playing when the download is only partially complete, and it will download the rest in the background while you play.
