MetalCaveman
I've been avoiding anything organic for a while, been mostly drawing mechs from BT, guns from Destiny and other stuff, might go back to human(oid-ish or whatever my skill allows ) things with those videos though. MetalCaveman
Tried to draw White Blood Cell from Cells at Work Code Black. First time in forever I try to draw a human character, weapons and mechs are easier, but she's my favourite character in the series so I felt like I had to at least try. 1
MetalCaveman
My attempt at drawing Cerea from Monster Musume, one of my favourite series, and one of my favourite characters. I need to get better at cleaning the sketch lines, and there are some things I now see I could have done better, but still, the first time I looked at the complete work I had a bit of an existential crisis, I was 100% sure I wasn't the one who drew this, that someone else did it and just used my notebook. Now I'm about 70% sure it was me who drew this. 2
MetalCaveman
This time I tried to draw Rachnera, also from Monster Musume. Ended up being a bit messy as I kinda rushed some parts, but oh well, I'll take my time next time.
MetalCaveman
I missed the five year anniversary of the Monster Musume anime, been in a bad spot in terms of drawing and stuff, I tried to redeem myself, kinda, sorta... A somewhat weak attempt at drawing a screenshot from one of my favourite scenes in the series, here's the original: So yeah, I messed up some stuff, skipped some stuff and completely fucked up other stuff, but still, for a quick drawing made in an afternoon, eh, could be worse. Here's to whatever I'll draw come the 10th anniversary (hopefully there'll be a season 2 by then)! \m/ \m/
MetalCaveman
50(ish) mins: 3 days (and counting): Wish I could draw more but I've been having some issues with Krita where it won't play nice with my tablet, the CSP trial I have seems to work fine so that might be something to look into if I can't fix these issues.
MetalCaveman
In progress*: *Meaning, I'm debating between finishing this, fixing some details, adding more stuff, and shadows, or just giving up for now.
MetalCaveman
WIP that I meant to finish before today (for obvious reasons), but failed to do so. Goal is to have a proper illustration for next year, assuming I improve enough, otherwise, I don't know, I'll just set myself on fire or something. Still intend to finish it, just, not on time anymore.
MetalCaveman
There's still improvements and changes that could make this better, but for this year I'm done.
MetalCaveman
WIP That I actually intend to finish this time Spoiler Already done some more work on it since then, but going slow, meant to be a Summer Artoria drawing, but when I noticed how similar they are, decided to turn it into a Cerea one.

TheMightyEthan
@MetalCaveman lol, when I first saw that my brain interpreted her ears as eyes, so she looked like some kind of weird hammerhead person.
Mal
As the tweet says. Where would I be if I kept going 10+ years ago...? Where will I be 10 years from now? Metal, you played no small part in me taking this plunge. No idea if I'll keep with this but yeah, it's a start. Thanks buddy.

Mal
Not sure how to color the whites of the eyes with my style. Another issue is I'm not sure how to handle areas without lines when I color. Overall, my art might be better in black and white but I KNOW it can be colored since I've seen similar. I've seen tons of soft coloring that works but I'm actually having issues finding good references (on my ani Twitter but I know I could just look at Calvin and Hobbes) on solid coloring which is how I prefer to to do it. I think lighter skin will work better but if I want to do darker skin, solid coloring just looks a bit odd. Anyhow, I should make or revive an OC and draw them 360 and tilted up and down. Also need to experiment with tons of hair styles and clothing... and aging people up. As for the nun and duck, it's fan art of one of my daily joys. Quack. One day I'll draw a worthy one to show Diva. 2
MetalCaveman
Those look pretty cute, nun looks cool. \m/ \m/ I've been learning a lot about certain tools in Krita, particularly, all the colouring I did was using the colorize mask, which simplifies things A TON, though the shading still has to be done by hand (AFAIK, might be a tool for that too), still, that's a huge chunk of time saved, and it looks pretty good if I do say so myself... And I do say so myself. Originally, the plan was to finish before February, yeah, that was optimistic of me.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I really like the style. Are those your own creations, or are they based on a reference of some kind?
MetalCaveman
Finished. There's a bunch of things that could look better, but after some attempts, they seem to fall in that "out of my current skill-level" category, some day... Maybe. A quick variation I did, some last minute stuff. Not counting the hours spent staring at the abyss and doubting myself, this took about 20-25 hours, counting those it's almost double that. Edit: Well, that was a dumb from me. Didn't notice and didn't think about it, but my glasses have that blue screen filter coating on them, so... Took a quick look without them and it's way too light, everything looked darker with glasses on, so I thought it looked good, glasses off... Not so much. Fuck me, something I'll have to take into account next time I get new glasses. Which should be soon(ish) I've had these for about 2 years now. Mal
Foreword, I forgot to post this a few weeks back and this draft stayed stuck in my travel laptop. Anyhow: On 2/1/2021 at 6:49 AM, TheMightyEthan said: Yeah, I really like the style. Are those your own creations, or are they based on a reference of some kind? The non-colored ones are just random, I just toss down lines until I like what I see. Things got to look about right for me to keep things. Middle did have a circle as a guide but I find that I need to practice more with guides and skeletons (the nun really drove it home). It isn't unusual for me to draw something and they look like something from somewhere since if it looks about right, it has to take some inspiration from somewhere. For example, the one on the right looks like someone from Digimon (mainly Adventure and 02, probably Sora? It's the expression that's cueing me off). I haven't watched Digimon since I was a teenager but I can't deny that my style looks like from Digimon (I really do like the Digimon look) to some extent. Overall, my style inspirations are from Takehito Harada (Disgaea creator, I've been a fan since Disgaea), Dowman Sayman (a more recent inspiration), Hajime Ueda (FLCL manga), Koji Kumeta (Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei) and increasingly Keiichi Arawi (Nichijo). If you want a comic inspiration, easy, Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes (lol, no need for introduction). There's more but I can name those above easily. While finding examples, I think I can see some Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei influenced what I drew (hair on the right) and probably Nichijo (for the middle, reminds me of the Professor). As an addon for this post: Coloring wise, I'm looking at my usual inspirations above but also Melan and tsuboP, just two random artists that I really do like on Twitter. There's actually a lot of talent on display on Twitter (e.g., Wasu/Cermrnl). Also, remember, don't be like Butch Hartman. 1
MetalCaveman
Work in progress, haven't been able to draw much recently, so not nearly as much progress as I'd like, and much more complex than previous work, this will be fun.
Mal
Shading and highlights are hard. Ideally you have a color pallet with different tones since just using low opacity white and black won't look right, like here. Got to work through this. For the record, this is some random picture of earthquake damage in Algeria.
TheMightyEthan
Holy crap, that's a really good translation of that picture into comic book style.
