Mal
So the above is from my saved history from months ago. I wasn't in a good place. Honestly, still not but so much for 01/???. Anyhow... I chose a random brush, lay down some strokes and went with it. Suddenly a bird based on an eagle. I need to do a shit ton of study of sketchy background work. Let's officially call it 02/???. 1
Mal
b I'm kind of liking going off on a single line to build an entire drawing. It should be really obvious which line started it all. Perspective among others needs tons of work but this is mainly a study of linework and coloring. Main references to see how they were done are works by Gainax/Trigger (linework) and Studio Ghibli (linework and coloring). I'm at a lost currently on how to do drawings with lots of straight and parallel lines with my tablet. I think I'll be doing monthly dumps if I continue this.
MetalCaveman
Sorry to bring the level of this thread down. Tried to learn how to draw some time ago, failed and gave up, and now I'm trying to go back, starting from scratch.
Mal
It's never too late to start. Keep going and you'll eventually do confident single strokes instead of sketchy strokes (Which I still do...). 1

MetalCaveman
Tried to draw the Hawkmoon from Destiny (emphasis on tried ), messed up the size/position of it, but left it as is to learn from that. Started dating and signing stuff, if only just to see how much progress has been made through time.
TheFlyingGerbil
We buy one new bauble for the tree each year but I made it this year. It's the first thing I've ever crocheted so it's a bit wonky/charmingly handmade, but I've tried so many times before just to crochet in a straight line and messed up and just unravelling it and I've had false starts with a number of crafts/arts over the years so am pleased I managed to finish it and it looks nice on the tree so yay me. Also, I know I didn't draw it, but I did make it. I don't know if there's enough making of stuff to warrant its own thread? TheFlyingGerbil
Think i fixed it. the forum wasn't loading properly before so I assumed it was that.
MetalCaveman
Been trying to draw faces, with varying degrees of success, this is one of my best attempts:
TheFlyingGerbil
Are you drawing them from a source?
MetalCaveman
Most of the time yes, that one was just practice at getting certain shapes and proportions right, since I tend to mess those up quite a bit, specially the chin area. TheFlyingGerbil
I'm yet to draw a face I'm happy with. I think it's because I do it with hard lines and they are not really there on the face, especially about the nose, but then the other option is shading and that's not something I could do competently either. Had another go at crocheting. The granny square wonked when I got to the end of each round (the north west quadrant in the photo) so the pattern is off but I'm pleased with how square and flat it turned out. I don't think I'm far off getting that right. Very happy with the coaster. I find it hard keeping the yarn wrapped around my finger and keeping a consistent tension - mostly it's too tight and I think the coaster is noticeably tighter than the square and it makes it harder to do everything so that's what I'll be working on next - I want that to be second nature so I can concentrate on the patterns. It's like when you start out driving and concentrating on the gear changes gets in the way of the actual driving so I think I'll just practise some straight lines of stitches for a bit. 1
TheMightyEthan
My wife has been knitting for years and she still has trouble keeping the tension constant. Typically it gets looser as she goes on.

MetalCaveman
First test of the Huion tablet I bought, just fooling around, somehow ended with satanic pope/person/thing... I blame Ghost.

MetalCaveman
Slowly going through some tutorials on the basics of digital, in the meantime, trying to recreate what I was able to do on paper. I keep telling myself I'll use layers for guidelines and other stuff and I keep forgetting to actually do it.
MetalCaveman
Happy to say that stuff like this now takes 10-15 mins, used to take 40 mins to an hour to get something that didn't look remotely as good.
MetalCaveman
Found the line tool on Krita and decided to try and replicate what I did on my notebook. Had some issues with the shadows, but overall happy with the result.
MetalCaveman
Struggling with fur textures, can't get anything I'm happy with. Tried applying a couple of these to some animal drawings but the less seen about those the better.
TheMightyEthan
Fur is hard, I think that's why in most drawings the interior is just smooth and it's only the outline that has some jagginess to indicate fur.
TheFlyingGerbil
You don't really see the individual strands of hair on a furry animal so the first one is most successful as being pale it more just hints at the texture and you're not so drawn to the individual hairs. MetalCaveman
Settled for this style, I think it works OK for now, though I would like to learn how to draw more realistic fur down the line. Also drew this the other day: Edited May 7, 2019 by MetalCaveman
MetalCaveman
Being able to zoom, scale and move stuff around makes stuff like this easier to draw on the tablet.
