TheMightyEthan
Oh my god yes, the chance to finally beat the shit out of that stupid dog?!
CorgiShinobi
So two things: Shulk was officially announced yesterday, so all the leaks are probably true at this point. Last, the first set of Super Smash Bros. Amiibo figures are available for pre-order on Amazon. Each figure is priced at $12.99, so basically standard Skylanders figure price. The most popular figure so far is Link, but you have a range of other classic Nintendo characters. Here's Link and other Amiibo figures: http://amzn.com/B00N4ABVOM Would have liked Luigi, but I'm only getting a few Amiibo figures as they'll act as training and support characters. TheMightyEthan
Why would you buy them? I honestly don't get it.
CorgiShinobi
Well, I thought I would use it as a personal training bot, and if I'm over at a friend's place we could do a team match with a partner Amiibo. We could even have the Amiibo figures fight it out and see who's would come out on top. Hell if I'm buying the whole lot; just one to test the waters if anything. Also, there might be a character I'd like as a Main, but might not be able to master. It could be, again, a great custom AI partner if this technology is actually as advertised. EDIT: Realized my previous comment sounded like I was getting a few of the current set. Nah, if they were to offer the whole roster as Amiibo figures, I could see myself with a few. Out of all those available, I'm thinking I'd try Link and that's it. Edited September 1, 2014 by Atomsk88
Opabinia
Just played the demo today and found it fun. Thankfully you can play without items and do 1vs1 which I find more fun these days. Items are ok on occassion
CorgiShinobi
Decided today I'm going to skip the 3DS version of Smash coming out soon. Primarily because the game was delayed too long so now we're getting into full swing of game releases for anticipated next-gen games on every platform. Not being a big handheld gamer, handheld games tend to be pushed aside. Secondly, the Wii U version will be the beefier version that is rumored to be coming out on November 21st. I feel it has been intentionally kept hidden for so long because with such a small gap in-between the two versions, there's less a chance people will double dip. Don't get me wrong, I've talked to some dudes excited for Smash on October 3rd, but I think I can wait not even two full months for the console Smash.
Mister Jack
So did anyone else buy the 3DS version? Come on, someone tell me I'm not the only one.
SkyGriever
Yes I did, add my FC, it's on the FC thread. Settle it in SMASH!
CorgiShinobi
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAADRUqGapgWEoA Yep, Wii U version comes out in "the Americas" on November 21st, whereas Europe will receive it December 5th and Japan December 6th. On the latter two regions the Amiibo figure release a whole week ahead, so can't say I get the logic in selling a temporarily useless figure. TheMightyEthan
Don't the figures work with the 3DS version?
Mister Jack
They do, although I can't really see why you'd need them for a version of the game that's already portable and requires each player to have a copy.
CorgiShinobi
They will so long as you get the NFC adapter or the "NEW" 3DS/3DSXL. I don't think the adapter is coming out just yet, if I recall correctly.

Saturnine Tenshi
8-player brawl and they use a completely flat stage to showcase it.
Mister Jack
There was a video but it's a half hour long so I just mentioned the highlights.
CorgiShinobi
About to begin playing, but turns out any GCN controller adapters have been sold out in town. Heck, take a look on Amazon and you have a few people thinking they can sell the $20 item for $80. Good thing I have a Wii U Pro controller as that's the next best thing. I also happened to notice the Amiibos were still around, but definitely Link and Samus were the favorites as there were barely any left. Fox was probably the third, but I figure people will have him as a Main instead of an AI partner.
Mister Jack
My Kirby amiibo just beat me on Final Destination at level 30. I've created a monster.
TheMightyEthan
I still don't really understand how amiibos are supposed to work...
CorgiShinobi
And he'll only become stronger! No, but seriously, when JWittz (YouTube) did a video on the Amiibo for Smash, I was confident in my pre-order. His Lv. 50 Amiibo was able to trash Lv. 9 CPU characters, give him a run for his money, if not learn and adapt to his play style. (Seeing Ethan just responding, I'll post the video.) Mister Jack
I still don't really understand how amiibos are supposed to work... Think of them like little AI training buddies that can fight either with you or against you. They learn to adapt and when you send them out to fight they also bring back prizes for you. TheMightyEthan
So do they supposedly learn from you, or do they just learn from whoever they fight against, or what?
Mister Jack
Pretty much anyone they fight against will teach them something.
TheMightyEthan
Okay, then the thing I'm really curious about is do they really learn (ie absorb actual information from actual encounters), or is it fake learning (ie they just gain experience points and get progressively better along a fixed path)?
TheFlyingGerbil
I don't know how they learn from other players, but they do learn to mimic your play style. I don't play Smash so don't know the terms but, for example if you never defend, and only attack, your amiibo will never defend and only attack also. Or if you like to attack in the air it will do that too. I guess it collects stats on how much % you punch kick jump dodge etc and roughly matches it's fights to that
