Mal
They won't turn into cheating (e.g., impossible reaction times) AIs will they? Otherwise, they're pretty cool. Not sure why they're tied to a physical figurine.
TheMightyEthan
Because Skylanders. *Edit* - To elaborate, for some reason people are willing to pay $25 for something like that if it's tied to a physical figurine when the exact same thing but $5 and software-only would be considered a bullshit microtransaction. Mr. GOH!
Amiibos are just a way to sell more plastic crap to children and the gullible.
CorgiShinobi
Technically, my one Amiibo works for three of my games: Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors. Not to mention my one lone figure could work for other games in the future. Unlike Skylanders where each new installment has proprietary figures with a new gimmick, my Link Amiibo can be one figure with different gimmicks. I've said before though I'm not going to go crazy and buy a whole series because so far only Smash Bros makes extensive use out of them. Mario Kart 8 is only a Mii costume and Hyrule Warriors you get different items.
TheMightyEthan
From what I read Amiibos are tied to specific games, so while they'll interact with other games they will only ever do tiny bonuses in them. So like your Link Amiibo is a Smash Amiibo, and can only do anything major in Smash.
CorgiShinobi
True, just for the same cost as a Skylanders figure, mine does more than what we've seen with that franchise. The data for Link is primarily for Smash, but I'm still getting little bonuses for what could easily be $2.99 micro-transactions for each game. I'm not denying what our own Mr. GOH said because it's 90% true, but my only gripe would be these figures seem more worthy of their $12.99 price point than Skylanders. It is a plastic figure that is going for the Skylanders market, but what they do so far interests me as far as a portable AI partner that you can manage with training and bonuses. My only complaint, like in JWittz video, is how you can't take them into Co-Op modes. (I guess AI may not be helpful in certain modes.) As far as how they actually learn, I have to assume it's a mix of both standard Smash AI but also the adaptable AI that handles different characters with the set moves you've equipped them with. That's the other thing I like so far in Smash, customization of character move sets. Sometimes that one move you don't like with a character can be changed to a different, more preferable move. EDIT: Also, I hope you don't think I'm trying to convince you to buy one. They're fun, but money you can easily spend elsewhere if you don't invest a lot of your time in Smash. Mister Jack
I got my one amiibo for free, but I might buy a couple down the line just because I would kinda like to have little figurines of my favorite Nintendo characters. CorgiShinobi
I've made a monster! No, really, my Link Amiibo is now kicking my butt at Lv. 35, but in the course of trying to defeat him, I only raised his level! He's Lv. 39 right now and I only ever took one stock each time during our 3 stock matches. I mean, I actually gave him positive stat bonuses (where usually it's give n' take) and he has a deadly arsenal of bonuses. I gave him extended invincibility after respawn, stronger upwards Smash attack, and finally stronger Smash attacks when holding down longer. Let me tell you, you do not want to be in the air when this Amiibo is playing. Edited November 27, 2014 by Atomsk88
Mister Jack
http://www.siliconera.com/2014/11/26/story-fox-amiibo-nearly-won-super-smash-bros-tournament/ Calling it now. Mister Jack
Has anyone tried playing the Wii U version online yet? How has your performance been? Because my results have been, shall we say, mixed. Sometimes the matches are near flawless and sometimes it has to stop and buffer literally every two seconds. TheMightyEthan
That was one of the only complaints I saw from reviews: there was no way to check what your connection quality to your opponents was, so there's no way to tell if it's going to be a good match or not. CorgiShinobi
I've barely touched online, but it was fairly good, especially considering how Random Match was in Brawl. I felt like there might have been a bit of lag, though at the same time I've been using the Wii Classic Controller Pro (over my Wii U Pro Controller) since the adapter is still hard to find in stores and online. I've been told even in offline there's a delay when using any of the control methods going through the Wii Remote. I still do very well, but damn if I could just have that adapter. Yesterday a store got in three Smash Edition GameCube controllers, but who's going to buy those without and adapter?!
CorgiShinobi
There's quite a bit revealed today, like Lucas coming back and seeing Mewtwo in action. However, what's interesting is that you can participate in requesting more characters for Smash: https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/ Bring on the Snakes, King K. Rools, and Ridleys! Alex Heat
I'm expecting Ridley to be the most requested character followed by Chrom then Ice Climbers.

CorgiShinobi
I always liked Roy in Melee, but I can't help but feel we already have enough Fire Emblem characters.

CorgiShinobi
True, but then I realized this:
Mister Jack
Jesus, he's not even out yet and Ryu already sounds overpowered as fuck. Multiple regular attacks based on pressure sensitivity? TWO final smashes? Command inputs? He's getting all this shit no other character has.

Mal
Quote Splatoon port? Nea- Oh hey. Cool. I think a Splatoon port is still a safe bet some time later.
Mister Jack
I honestly see no need to port the first Splatoon to Switch, and I say this as someone who really enjoyed the first one. The second one has all the same stuff the first one does outside of the original campaign, and having two games would just split the playerbase. Plus, they aren't doing splatfests on the original game anymore anyway. They gave it a finale of sorts with the Callie vs. Marie event. At best they might put the original levels in Splatoon 2 as an update or something.
TCP
I was rolling my eyes after that unnecessarily long Splatoon DLC trailer, and now some more Splatoon garbage? (Nintendo, seriously, you're going to make me hate Splatoon). But it was redeemed by showing BotW Link.
