How did I miss this?

I certainly understand that people want a new F-Zero game," Miyamoto said. "I think where I struggle is that I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again. Certainly I can see how people looking at Mario Kart 8 could see, through the anti-gravity, a connection to F-Zero. But I don’t know, at this point, what direction we could go in with a new F-Zero.

Can't see what's new they could bring to it? Lush 60fps HD graphics, online racing?

They're very careful with DLC on their family oriented franchises, so Mario Kart 8 probably either won't see it, will only offer free stuff or will only bring out one or two major additions (a la Super Luigi Bros. DLC)

F Zero is a well know brand with experienced/older gamers that will know the score with DLC so Nintendo could try a different angle with it. DLC tracks and ships/upgrades, new modes, etc. Maybe even bring the core game out at a lower price as a download only release. It's a great mid tier franchise for them to experiment with.

That was an unusually bad Nintendo Direct today. Oh really Luigi is going to be in Smash Bros? You don't say! Also it scares the crap out of me that they announced SMB3 is coming to the Wii U VC later this year. What about A Link to the Past? Super Mario Bros? Final Fantasy II and III? Yoshi's Island? Anything N64? I know I complain about this regularly but it just boggles my mind that they stagger these releases so much when they have so few retail games coming to their console at the moment.

The new Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds footage was great though.

You're right - I can't believe they haven't released a link to the past  in time for link between world, that seems to be missing a trick.

I thought the Animal Crossing Plaza on Wii U looked cute, and will definitely have a look at it. and it was great to see layton vs pheonix finally confirmed. I don't think it was their worst one by far. They do seem to have more often than they have news to fill them though.

10/10 Best Nintendo Direct Ever because Ace Attorney/Professor Layton.

Seriously though, that one announcement aside it was exactly what I expected.  The pre holiday season Nintendo Direct to try and sell their holiday season releases.  I guess they'll do another one later for DKC/Mario World/whatever else lands near the very end of the year, but most everything else was present and accounted for.  Zelda?  Check.  Virtual Console?  Check.  Weird eShop games?  Check.  It was everything an August Nintendo Direct would normally be, and then they threw a bone to the video game enthusiasts watching with a niche game announcement at the very end.

Ace Attorney/Layton was definitely a new announcement.  There is a zero percent chance I would have missed that.  I have been watching like a HAWK for this game to get localized.  I am more excited about this game than maybe any other game that is announced to exist but isn't available yet.

I'm aware that I'm putting it above a new Xeno RPG and Rayman Legends.  I'm THAT excited.

Hiroshi Yamauchi, President of Nintendo from 1949 until 2002 has died at the age of 85. He presided over the company moving from a card maker to video games and was Japan's richest man at the hight of the Wii's popularity. People seem to easily dismiss Nintendo's contributions to video games history simply because they didn't like the Wii, but the company, under Hiroshi Yamauchi must may arguably have been the most most influencial single company in creating the market we have today.

Ignore these children. I didn't realize Nintendo had anyone with such a long tenure. That is a long time at any company. This guy's life was Nintendo until he retired.

I think it'll be good, because Monolith makes good JRPGs.  I mean, they aren't always good at all things, but Monolith JRPGs are always really good at at least one thing.  Baten Kaitos had music and combat.  Xenosaga had characters and music.  Xenoblade had scale and music.  Soma bringer never left Japan because there is no god but they had Mr. Mitsuda do the soundtrack so it had at least music.

Now that I break it down, I guess Monolith Soft JRPGs are always good at Music and one other thing.

So I took a gander at the email that Nintendo sent out about the sales. I know they were terrible but damn. Why so reserved on the software sales? I don't like to buy used since that is seriously worst than pirating the games but I just can't work with a big maybe that the games I want will go on sale by my flight time on December 18th.

Oh sure I can buy one new game but in the holiday season, it is kind of odd to get a game with no discount.

It increases the value for the average purchasers by a nominal amount, especially if the game in question is part of a flexible first-party pricing ecosystem, as more and more gaming ecosystems are becoming. It's more of a hassle and risk to buy a used game than to buy a discounted original copy (usually digital nowadays) after a while.

Edit: But of course Nintendo hates flexible pricing, because Nintendo thinks it's Apple.

But for the people who do routinely buy new copies and sell their old ones, they'd be buying a lot fewer new copies if they couldn't sell the old ones.

Obviously for the developer/publisher it's better if you buy a discounted new copy, I just think the idea that buying used is morally worse than pirating is ridiculous.

I never said anything about morality. I was merely jabbing at Nintendo. I really much prefer new so the devs and pubs can get their money. It wouldn't kill them to do a simple 20% to 33% on titles older than say one year or so. Though I suppose I'm trending some brick and mortar relationship minefield.

Also my PCness is showing. Having predictable sales is really nice. I just feel with Nintendo and perhaps the others consoles it is harder.
